Sahaara Mediterranean Tapas Ratings and Reviews
The lamb kabobs were tough and dry; the Greek salad was over dressed to the point bitterness, and the chicken taco entree just didn't work. The rice, served as a pyramid, was very good, and the presentation was good. We just were sad that the meals were not well-prepared. Overall, a disappointing dining experience.
The staff was not familiar with open table, though we had made our reservation through open table we were told if we decided to stay we needed to be done with our table in one hour as they had another large group booked. We stayed, felt like we were the step family. Ordered, fed and paid within 40 minutes . Rushed, and made to feel uncomfortable. The food was fresh and tasty, would have liked to enjoy it more.
We wanted a restaurant near SFO so we could grab a bite to eat on our way home. The food was very tasty and the service was gracious as well. The mezze sampler had a bit of everything. The Kefta kebab was well spiced without being overpowering. The Gamba plate: prawns sautéed with tomato, feta and pepperoncini, served with rice was a nice change from the kebab we usually order. We ate early on a Wednesday evening so the place was fairly quiet. They also have an outdoor eating section in the back of the restaurant. Looking at other reviews, you must realize this is not a really fancy place but it is great for what it is. I feel the menu prices are fair. We're sure to eat here again!
I'm sure my review would be more positive if my expectations hadn't been raised by the Open Table description of this basic kebab hut (not tapas, as the name might suggest). The food is fine, and the service friendly, but there is no cozy ambience one might want for a Mediterranean dinner. Had I gone for lunch, with more reasonable expectations, I might be gushing about the food. Sorry.
The atmosphere was charming, the service excellent, and the food delicious. Wonderful experience. One drawback: the outside is reserved for smokers so the restaurant smelled of smoke when we first entered. After complaining to the waiter, he closed the back door and that helped as there was only one smoker. I am concerned about the effect multiple smokers would have on a future dining experience.
I recommended this restaurant for a lunch with a client. My boss and my client had never been there, and they both loved it! The three of us had the combination kababs (chicken, lamb, beef), and it was superb. My boss told me I made a good score - yay! I had been here before with friends, and I had good experiences then too. Thanks!
Okay, we are Lebanese, and I guess we are part of the "family", so we loved the vibe we got from Sahaara. The food was great and we happened to be there on the same night a baptismal reception was going on. That being said, and as a restaurant guy, I saw a couple beside us that they asked us to consolidate our table to accomodate who were never approached and left, never being acknowledged.
Let me clear...the food is great and would rival my mohter's kitchen. Go and relax. They'll get to you soon.
Service was not good. I asked for lemon wedges 3 times from 2 different servers and still didn't get any. I also asked for more bread but never got it. We seated ourselves and waited atleast 15mins before anyone approached us. Also the music was too loud for dinner. We were there at 6pm and there was only a few groups, no need for very loud music early in the evening.
The lamb and chicken kebabs are great and tacos are tasty. The service was VERY bad even when considering there was a large party in the outdoor space out back. Incorrect orders; difficulty getting attention when we needed things; long wait for food; even when order was corrected the restaurant billed us for the food we didn't we didn't order ; requests for bread and water during the long wait that were acknowledged but never fulfilled; order not as described on menu (corn tortilla's were substituted by wheat flour pita). The most postive thing I can say about the service is they were not rude. Tasty, but a long and tiring evening.
