Saha is a Middle Eastern dining establishment in San Francisco that is considered by locals to be one of the best-kept secrets. The menu is filled with modern twists on traditional Middle Eastern fare, with plenty of options for vegetarians, vegans and those with gluten sensitivities. The Saha menu blends flavors from the regions of Yemen, North Africa and Arabic countries.
Try the menu for dinner, lunch or brunch, which may include a lobster scramble or a baby kale and quinoa salad served with tofu. Try stuffed avocados and mushroom falafel at dinner or enjoy a sage-marinated duck or Saha red curry. The menu features plenty of options for both adventurous and hesitant eaters.
Food was terrific; the service started out a bit surly. The host said hello by telling us that we had to be out of there by 7:30 (we were seated at 6:10 though we were there early for our 6:00 pm reservation.) "Didn't they notify you of this time limit?" NO. The server also started off somewhat unfriendly - having a bad day? As the evening went on, she loosened up a bit and by the end of the evening - toward tip time? - it was all smiles... but I repeat the food was excellent with generous portions...
Re: noise level - fine for our middle-age and older ears at the start; by the end of the evening when all tables were taken, the noise level approached the bomb level.
The food at Saha never disappoints, even if the service is having an off night. Go. Eat. Enjoy!
unfortunately they were out of their dish which was the highlight of the show Check Please and that made us go try this restaurant. The owner was very kind and gave us a delicious soup for free stating the dish tasted a lot like that soup. Nice touch. They are moving to the East Bay and we will try them again there to see if the dish in fact is the same ;-) we look forward to having them closer to home.
We will return for the food and hope that we receive more attentive service next time. Excellent vegan options. We both chose the vegetarian pre fixe. For $38 you select soup or salad, a small plate and an entree. My Mediterranean salad was excellent as was the ravioli and veggie tajine. The baklava for dessert was outstanding - perhaps the best I've ever had. We also had a very nice bottle of gruner veltliner. As far as the service, we waited at the entry for 5 minutes despite having reservations but no host was to be found. Eventually a waiter acknowledged us and said our table would be ready. Upon seating us, we waited another 10 minutes for the waitress to acknowledge us even though she stood less than a foot away from our table conversing with another table. A nice "I'll be right with you" would have been appropriate. The service improved incrementally throughout our meal. Summary: excellent vegetarian options and intriguing meat options that we will return for. But service was just mediocre.
Everything was delicious and the wait staff is knowledgeable and accommodating.
Never disappointed at Saha. Sorry they're moving, but happy for them. Outstanding food!
As in our previous visits, Saha lived up to its reputation. Great Yemeni food, well prepared and elegantly presented. The only disappointment was the special of the day : a small plate of cold mousse and two tiger prawns. Somehow the cold mousse did not fit with the rest of dish.
Tasty food, especially for those who are vegetarian.
Yemeni Fusion Not To Be Missed
Our group of six professionals had a delightful weeknight dinner at Saha. We shared six small dishes, ordering two servings of each dish. The total, 12 items, worked well for us. While we were all omnivores, the menu is friendly to vegetarians and gluten-free folks.
The food was spectacular. We ordered: baby beets, stuffed avocado salad, falafal and eggplant, chicken Bastilla, wild salmon "baklava" in a pastry, and kofta in yogurt. Superb sauces really contributed to the great flavors.
Bites of warm baklava ended the meal on just the right note. Without alcohol, the bill per person came to $38 including tip, which we found very reasonable given the high quality of the dishes.
The noise level in the restaurant was "energetic," which somewhat impacted the opportunity for our group to get acquainted with one another. Still, we really enjoyed ourselves and had good conversation. One person even planned to return the following evening to explore the menu further.
