Sage Student Bistro - Institute for the Culinary Arts
Enjoyed every bite!!! I have always said Sage Bistro is a 5 star restaurant at a 3 star price.
Very good food! I thought that each dish was absolutely wonderful and brought a new look on different foods. My only comment would be to help your servers pronounce the French words a little better. I know it’s a little thing, but correct pronunciation goes a long way when the customers speak the language! Overall though, I would definitely recommend Sage Student Bistro to a friend!
The Pre Fixe was AMAZING. WONDERFUL EXPERIENCE
Delightful bites and attentive service make this gem a fantastic place for occasion dinners, adventurous palates, and anyone wishing to support local culinary students. Order the prix fixe, you will not be disappointed!
Great food spent the evening with my daughter in law! Thanks for a memorable dinner
The six of very much enjoyed the fine dining at Sage. There was an opener served on small individual “spoons” that was absolutely delicious. Several of us had the gnudi starter which was also beautifully plated and tasty. We enjoyed our beef strip entrees as well as the lamb and pork entrees as well. We all agreed the lemon blueberry “ice cream” was scrumptious and a great way to end the evening.
Fun experience, great atmosphere, good food, wait staff good, although our server seemed a little less sure of herself, she could’ve done a better job explaining the dishes we were served. The amuse bouchée was great, bread and their signature butter, delicious, food presentation very nice. We didn’t have dessert, but several did and said it was very good. The small plate served at the end of the meal was perfect!
Amazing food, such reasonable prices. Loved the ambiance. Also felt great to support students learning community!
The service was outstanding. I would recommend them to everyone.
We have dined at Sage Bistro many times over many years. We understand the teaching/training scenario. We also realize that this was opening week. Saying all that it’s was a rough outing for front and back of the house. Our server knew nothing about the food and never really offered explanations unless asked, which we found odd. Appetizers were great, however the dinners were middle of the road, which is surprising. We will continue to return even though we feel a slippage in the operation.
This was my first time visiting and I will definitely be back. Everyone seemed happy to be there and our server was very pleasant. Excellent menu options and well worth the cost.
Amazing food. Accommodating for food intolerances. We will be back again!
Anyone dining here knows that it is run by students and will be patient with them.
This place is such a fun experience for a fine dining meal on a modest budget. Everything we had was amazing, and the student waiter/chefs went out of their way to ensure a great evening for me and my dining partner.
Enthusiasm of the students is evident at every turn. The service staff was excellent and very well prepared for questions. The flow of the meal was very smooth and timely from course to course. Food preparation was outstanding and each course was savory and eye-appealing. This easily ranks at the top tier of the restaurants in the city. I look forward to going back.
First impression upon arrival of seeing a photographer flashing photos in a corner was disheartening. When I asked the host how long the photo shoot was going to go (because if it were to keep going we would have left) - he said, “They were suppose to be done at 6” but then led us to our table. Flash photography continued for about 5 more minutes... but it was very bright in the restaurant. I wondered if this was for the photographer.
We have been here before and was pleasantly surprised by great food and service.
This time the service was simply bad. I understand this is a learning restaurant but our server seemed checked-out before even serving us. I was genuinely nervous when our glasses of red wine finally arrived as they were wobbling on the tray.
Food was good.
We were given complimentary amuse-bouche with no explanation of what it was. We learned from a neighboring table - after we ate it.
Our 2nd glass of wine was comped by the floating hostess or manager - since it took longer than getting the first round. Same hostess / manager seemed to engage with us the most as she finally adjusted the bright lights.
Our server needed an assist with the dessert tray / explanation and then got the order wrong and then charged us for a third dessert.
I want to root for the students... Simply being honest with this review, hoping it may help with teaching.
Out of all the times we have been to Sage, this was by far the poorest experience. We like to support the students, however, they appear to not be training them with table service, etc. We never had our wine or water refilled once while there on this trip (despite paying a corkage fee for the wine we brought) and the food was served cold and not very good. The plates are small at best, but the chicken on the pre fix menu did not even look or taste like chicken and the flavors did not pair well on the previous courses (with the exception of the risotto). The arctic char was good but again not hot.
Disappointed at best and we let the host know to no avail.
Exquisite, innovative, delicious. Each course will transport you to sensory Nirvana and back: Just close your eyes and give in to the many layers of flavors and textures that only expert hands and true love of the art can create. In addition, the service was most knowledgeable and attentive, the atmosphere elegant and relaxing. Absolutely awesome! I had my Birthday dinner here, and it just blew me away. Thank you!
Quiet cold night, bread service seemed spare compared to previous visits. Prix Fixe was well executed.
I brought a friend with me, and we both agreed it was one of the most pleasant evenings we have ever experienced. Service was good. Students were pleasant and informative. It was quiet so you could have a nice conversation. It was an exceptional dining experience.
MarleneR, thank you for taking your time to leave us a review of your experience! We are glad to hear that you enjoyed dining with us. It is great to hear that you enjoyed great conversation with your group. The Sage Student Bistro is a classroom and we're additionally happy to hear that you received great service from our AWESOME students! We look forward to seeing you again!
No music in the place which sometimes makes a nice atmosphere. The waitress didn’t know the menu very well and said they didn’t have more bread and we got 2 small pieces of that.
Meat (pork and duck) could have been better it was a bit chewy and pork was over cooked .
Overall was good but it has a few things to improve.
Desserts were awesome!!
BereniceF, thank you for taking your time to leave a review of your experience at the Sage Student Bistro. The Sage Student Bistro is a classroom, both front of house and back of house. The students work hard learning to offer fine dining service and all that encompasses over a few weeks. During each quarter we look forward to seeing our students grow in confidence, menu knowledge and culinary art. We hope you return and experience more of our student driven environment.
Likely the best kept secret in town. Tasty nutritious food at low prices, five star quality, one would be a fool not to dine here.
Food is excellent and exciting. Service is very good, but keep in mind this is a teaching restaurant, so you might have to help your server a little. (Needed a little help getting the wine bottle open.) Portions are small, but very satisfying. You will leave this restaurant full, but you won't need a wheelbarrow to carry your stomach out the door. Ingredients of each dish are printed and explained. Wonderful flavors. For fine dining, this is very affordable, and you're helping a very dedicated culinary student learn the service side of the restaurant business.
Every time we head to Sage we receive a different and amazing experience! The students service and preparation of the food is just like going to your favorite high end restaurant for half of the cost. The limited menu allows us to try items that we usually would not eat and they are always fantastic!
Sage Student Bistro is about the best food in Omaha, bar none. The presentation is outstanding, the service impeccable. They have high standards for all aspects of your dining experience, and they never miss.
Excellent food great pricing, you support students...
Very good...exceeded expectations as we knew this was a classroom and expected some bumps but the bumps were minimal. We will be back soon
Bistro was able to accomodate my request for more than 6 people BUT I had to physically go and ask, as no one read the request when I made the resrvation 5 weeks in advance. I also said I was bringing in wines, and the corkage fee was fine. Again, BUT I was bringing in bottles that were 27-35 years old, and I decanted them before coming to the restaurant. They did not seem to understand why I did decanting at home.
Servers knew the menu and were very attentive. A lot of thought went into the menu items. The menu was full of flavor and great presentation. The bakery rocked it!
Really enjoyable. Some delicious courses and excellent service.
We went for this evening as it was the last night open during the students finishing this term. The tasting menu was excellent with good service. There were almost more courses than we could eat but each course was different allowing the student chefs to really shine. We brought our own wine with a modest corkage charge but they did have a moderately priced wine list as well. We will definately go back during their next term.
The student prix fixe menu at the end of each semester is amazing. Metro's culinary school is a gem!
This is our second time dining at Sage. The menu is well priced for the amazing quality of food. The student Prix Fixe meal was delicious with appropriate timing of courses.
This restaurant is outstanding! Since it is student-run, all of the staff are striving to learn and are at their best. The food is not only wonderful in taste, but also wonderful in presentation.
Fun experience trying the unique menu items created by MCC culinary students.
My wife and I had the prix fixe dinner on Oct 31, 2018. The corn soup was inventive, the broth a littlebtoo sweet for my wife. The lobster appetizer, the sea bass coarse and beef coarse were very good. The salad was fun. A great experience.
Our waitress was awesome, however the wait time for food was much to long. We waited over 45 minutes for our appetizers and an hour and half for our main dish. The cooks really need send food out faster. We are not wine or beer drinkers and our waitress kept assuring us it would be out any minute. The menu needs to explain each item in more detail explain how it is cooked and what items are being missed together to create the taste we will enjoy. Again our waitress explained each item for us, how it was cooked, and the taste that was created. Once the food was served it was very good, the dessert was delicious. It was a great experience except for slowness in being served.
I wish the were more desserts to choose from and a variety if breads as in times past.
Sage is among my very favorite food adventures in Omaha, and vies for best restaurant in town. Always remarkable and inventive. Our server, Moses, was spot-on perfect. A+.
It was great food. Perfect for a fancy date night. I recommend it.
