Decent sushi without having to leave our hotel! They advertise it as "city views" since it's on the top floor but the view isn't that stunning, it's mostly all the surrounding commercial buildings in the outskirts of Toronto. The service was really good, our server was so sweet to us and our daughter and took special care to make her a set of kid friendly chopsticks.
We all enjoyed our dinner- very nice sushi rolls.
Warning: Sagano no longer offers the Ranzan 5-course dinner with sake pairings although when you Google "Sagano Japanese Restaurant Menu", you will believe that this is still on the menu. The raw fish is room temperature and not chilled. The quality is similar to or less than many plaza sushi restaurants but for a much greater price. The only redeeming factor is the service provided by the maitre'd and waitresses. After years of loving Sagano, we will not be returning and will be advising our friends not to waste their money. There are much better Japanese restaurants to go to.
I have been celebrating my friends birthday at Sagano for the last 8 years. It has always been a special evening with good food and service. She has been going to Sagano for some 20 years. The staff know us and make it very enjoyable.
This time we did not enjoy the food and will not be coming back until you make changes to the menu or bring back items from the previous menu. There was no presentation or taste. I had Donburi with beef. It came in a bowl with rice, beef and a fried egg. It was so plain and definitely not worth $27. I have had better food at the food courts.
My friends order was simply put on a plate. It should have come on a boat dish or presented much better.
The sashimi was not fresh.
The menu is also very limited. The previous menu was a bit higher in cost but the items were so nicely presented and it was a pleasure to eat good food .
The Sashimi is amazing! The ramen soup are really good. Double maki tuna and crab are fresh.
What a disappointment. We've been going to Sagano for years as it was once of the top Japanese restaurants in the east GTA, but with a new chef and a dismal new menu, Sagano has taken a turn for the worst. Our young daughter looks forward to dining at Sagano and now never wants to eat there again. Honestly, no tamago, no katsu sauce and no tempura sauce...no traditional sauces with so few options on the new menu...c'mon! So sad that Sagano still has the great wait staff, but is no longer a Japanese restaurant.
Our hostess (Nancy) was attentive, friendly and assisted in the meal selections.
The 3- star rating is for service only. Food-wise, I’d rate it as barely 1-star with the new menu. They have significantly shrank the menu and took away my personal favourite dish - miso black cod. Sadly I will not return.
Disappointing on this visit. We hadn’t been since the menu was changed recently.
Couldn’t make a Kir Royale (no cassis).
Appetizers underwhelming. The tuna poke lacked seasoning.
Very poor Ramen dish (pork).
Will give it another try as we do like the ambience. Service and food have usually been very good.
Overpriced food. Not at all comparable to other fine Japanese restaurants. Very small menu selection.
Poke was lacking, sashimi was good, but hard to screw up raw fish.
I have been going to Sagano for more than 15 years and the food is usually great. However I did not like the new Menu. Everything has changed and the food was not that great. Very sad to say I will not be going back
The room needs to be refurbished.
The teriyaki beef entree although nicely presented was served barely lukewarm and included slices of fat and gristle. I would not recommend this restaurant.
We have visited Sagano many times over the years and it is an excellent japanese restaurant. Our favorite dishes include their tempura and steak
No gluten free options or soy sauce. We kept having to ask the waitress to refill our wine glasses. Finally we just moved the bottle to our table to do ourselves.
Amazing view of Scarborough
Above average food quality, quite atmosphere, nice view from the 14th floor of the 401 hwy, price was appropriate.
Great service and food taste delicious too! I would definitely recommend to anyone.
Go there for atmosphere... Food is ok... Service is good but slow to response your request..
Went to Sagano based on the Shabu Shabu which was shown on the online menu for the restaurant. However it was not available when we got there. Ordered from the set menu and food was decent. Drove 45 min for Shabu Shabu only to have regular Japanese food.
I have been going there for over 30 years. Same staff. The food is much pricier, but the staff is really nice. Mary is outstanding.
My wife and I recently celebrated our anniversary here, the food and service was excellent
Great view- took note of our special requests in the reservation. Wonderful time and great food.
Just not good for those requiring a wheelchair or have mobility issues.
This top high level Japanese restaurant makes me very disappointed，this is my first time tried this restaurant , we ordered summerlicious menu, the food is not Japanese style at all! I ordered the chicken for main entrée, chicken taste not good ,especially very hard......and the candle Holder on the table is dirty......I won't come to this restaurant again for sure. Only good thing is the view and the service.
I ordered misoyaki glazed salmon from the summerlicious entrée menu. The portion size was unexpected, the salmon turned out to be bigger than what i would imagine. The salmon was cooked just perfect as it wasn't too dry, but tender!
Sagano is a slightly outdated Japanese restaurant located in the Delta hotel. I found the staff were very kind and attentive, however the food was lackluster and over priced. I ordered a sushi platter and the taste was underwhelming for the cost.
My husband took me to Sagano to celebrate my birthday. We had the special menu that included soup, bento box with shrimp and veg tempura, chicken teriyaki skewer and beef teriyaki skewer, couple of California roll and two pieces each of salmon sashimi and tuna sashimi. It also included green tea ice cream for dessert. Excellent value with variety. It was really good value and nice to have a little of different items. Loved it. Would recommend this restaurant. Also service was quite good. Loved the view. Will go back.
Service was good from start to finish. Waitress was very polite. We got a nice table by the window facing towards downtown Toronto. You could actually see the CN tower. We chose the Deltalicious option so it was $39.95 and it came with soup, salad, bento box (tempura shrimp and veggies, California roll, sashimi, rice, teriyaki chicken, teriyaki beef and sautéed veggies), ice cream and green tea. We couldn't finish it! You do have to grab a paper slip when you park but the restaurant will validate your parking and you won't have to pay.
The quality of food and services is excellent.
Dinner was delicious. Avocado salad devine. Teriyaki beef tenderloin was flavourful and tender.
What we could have done without was the restaurants refusal to accept the OpenTable rewards cheque. First the server refused. Then the manager without an explanation - he simply stated that they don't accept any cheques. Apparently, they only accept reservations through OpenTable and nothing more. Left us with a bad taste.
Sagano has consistently great food and great service.
We had the Bento Box which was plenty of food and provides a bit of everything. Definitely quality sushi. Very fresh! Only down side is it is a bit pricy. Slightly lower price would encourage me to make this a more regular thing instead of just a special occasion.
The view is lovely, especially at sunset.
Over looking the city
Wonderful venue, menu and service. Staff were friendly in a very relaxed atmosphere. I will definitely return.
I took my family there for my partner's birthday partner but we were very disappointed by the limited menu items and what they did have was extremely overpriced. The view was not what I thought it would be as I was expecting a view of "Toronto skyline" but really it was a view of Hwy 401. The food was tasty but I wouldn't go there again for dinner. Perhaps lunch is more affordable. They charge downtown Toronto rates but are located in a Scarborough hotel.
We were the only ones in the restaurant so it was quiet (not always a good sign, however we were early). The food was very good, we had the bento box special the tempura was excellent very light and not greasy. The sushi and sashimi were fresh. The service was very good all were very polite.
The only issue we had was there was a set of stairs we were not aware of which was not great for my mother who has a walker. And when we tried to use our open table cheque to pay they would not accept it.
It was quaint. Family friendly. The food was good to better than expected, but not exceptional. We have had better but it would be unfair to compare. We liked the service and the attention given to us.
Not the best but we would come again.
We found the atmosphere to be best part of our experience. It is quiet with Japanese music playing in the background. All the staff were friendly and accommodating The layout of the restaurant creates spaces that allow you to have an intimate dining space. The food is reasonably priced and fresh.
I spent a year in Japan and this place brought me back. The server was dressed in a yukata, japanese music played in the background, and the courses were filling and tasty! My only complaint would be that the meat portion was small. Otherwise a great dining experience.
Very good set dinner menus. It's difficult to get a window seat. Nice view of the 401.
Compare to the previous visits, it was a disappointing experience. The service was untimely, food quality not up to par, maybe just equivalent to some of the all-you-can eat establishments. The only bright spot was the black cod. A total waste of the ambience and the view of this once fine dining spot.
Sagano Restaurant is rated 3.9 stars by 142 OpenTable diners.
Yes, you can generally book this restaurant by choosing the date, time and party size on OpenTable. Due to local restrictions, this restaurant may not be accepting reservations at the moment.
