The food and service were very good, however, we ordered three dishes, one lamb, one shrimp and one chicken. While the lamb and shrimp were plentiful in their respective dishes, there was about a teaspoon of chicken total in the chicken dish. I don't know if they underestimated the amount of chicken that would be ordered and ran out or if it was oversight but was completely unacceptable given that their prices are about 30% higher than a typical Indian restaurant. I would go back but would inquire as to the chicken situation before ordering a chicken dish.
Ah, we never got to eat there. Arrived - no host or server. We waited 5 minutes and no one came out to seat us! So we left and went elsewhere for dinner - disappointing
It was a good meal, at a very good price with excellent service
We decided to try a new Indian restaurant for a family dinner, and friend recommended Saffrin based upon an experience with delivered food. The decor is plain, but that didn't bother us. The restaurant is on the second floor and is accessed by an exterior metal staircase -- not an issue for us but those with mobility challenges would be good to call first. Saffron offers new and different menu options, which we enjoyed, and portions were larger than at some competitors. Both the food and service at Saffron were good, but some menu selections were better than others. All-in-all our experience was quite adequate.
I always love eating here. The food is authentic Indian, the service is attentive without being obtrusive. Very friendly, casual. No need to rush, but don't get bored waiting. They have our favourite wine, and the staff remembers their regular customers and what they like. The lunch buffet is not large, but the variety is great and there are always very fine vegetarian selections. I've recommended this to a number of people, all of whom have returned on their own.
I totally love this place. I've been here alone and am treated royally; I've been here with various and sundry friends on a number of occasions for both lunch and dinner, and we have been treated as if we were special every time. The last time was Sunday and I was with friends who had not that familiar with true Indian food, and they loved it, too, and are planning to return with some other of their friends. This is a fine place. The only handicap would be the stairs which one much climb in order to get to the restaurant -- not a problem for us, but it may be for someone in a wheel chair.
Good Indian food. Not very busy - no need for reservations. Reasonably priced. Food came out very quickly.
We have dinner here once a month and plan to do same for the foreseeable future. The dishes we order -- both appetizer and main courses -- are superior to comparable dishes at other local Indian restaurants.
Received chicken from the restaurant that was closer to chicken neck or chicken feet than chicken. Will never go back.
Horrible service. Waitress would not make eye contact. Took other tables orders before taking ours and food arrived late. . Items that were ordered did not arrive. Took forever to pay the bill. Left no tip.
The food was horrible and almost tasteless. I have never ate such a bad food quality in my life. Would not recommend ...
We were pleasantly surprised as we had never been to Saffron before. For a strip mall restaurant, like many discoveries, it was very good. the service was friendly and timely. Food was well prepared, with a few surprises...an added side dish as a free "gift," which went very well with the meals. Based on what we saw, and we're no experts, but it felt like there was a good variety of northern and southern Indian dishes offered. we'll be back!
As always, we had a delicious dinner. A group of us were celebrating my wife's birthday and we shared many items. All of them were great, but the Chili Chicken and assorted Tandoori Meats, (a large appetizer), were exceptional.
We enjoy both dine-in and take-out from Saffron and highly recommend them as the best Indian restaurant in the area.
Authentic indian food in an inviting, comfortable setting. The wait staff is EXCELLENT.
Saffron is a restaurant that offers very good value for the quality food served. While the food is fresh and well prepared, I do not think the restaurant would satisfy Indian foodies; that is, it is not in the class with Rasika in DC. Service was friendly and efficient without being annoying. I have eaten there on a numerous occasions for lunch and had the buffets, which are a real value.
The food is excellent, the decor, very simple and plain, nothing special,
service was a bit slow, but friendly and nice people We will definitely be back.
A great value for your money, the portions are large.
This place is the best Indian restaurant. Server Lawrence is more than best. I just can't compare this resturant with any others. I really really liked it.
My family and I ate at saffron on New Years Eve. We went on the early side because of our two small children. The staff was extremely friendly to my children. That made me feel comfortable eating here. The service was great and the food was great as well. I would recommend Saffron to everyone. It has an awesome buffet for lunch that I will definately be coming back for.
I chose from the menu rather than the buffet. My picks were Bhel Puri and Vegetable Jalfrezi. The former lacked the flavors of the variety of chutneys that I like so much in this Indian street food and the latter lacked the complexity of flavors I have come to expect at the three Indian restaurants I visit most often. None of these offers a buffet. It has been my experience that restaurants that do not have a buffet have to put more effort into the preparation of the dishes. The best of them take the time to learn a customer's preferences before sending an order to the kitchen. The ambiance is bland and the service was overly intrusive. I ordered green tea and was told that the restaurant did not offer it, but did have a few kinds of Lipton teabags. I chose black coffee instead, but did not finish the cup as it was either instant or badly brewed. The only positive note was the limited, but well chosen list of wines It included good values such as Allan Scott sauvignon blanc, 24 Hands cabernet, and Alamos Malbec
Excellent Indian food -- most likely the best in Rockville! Great lunch buffet with many vegetarian selections. We've gone several times and the food is always top-notch.
We ordered off the menu, and one of us got the buffet. The buffet was probably below average ~ not a lot of choice, some things a little dried out. The menu item was much better. The worst part was the server...who was trying to be attentive, but was at the table WAY too often, cleaned up too soon (waited for my friend to finish her meal to take her plate...he STOOD there while she ate), and his interactions were awkward.
I went in with low expectations so I was not disappointed. It was an ok meal.
The Vindaloo was very good but the Josh? Lamb appeared to have been warmed over from a previously cooked meal...
The whole experience was underwhelming.
We enjoyed the Dosa and baingan bharta. they also had a nice selection of wine.
The food is excellent and the owners & wait staff are friendly and able to provide service without seeming to "hover". Everything I've had here I would order again; everything is well prepared and very fresh and authentic. It you enjoy Indian, this is the place to eat.
I eat in Indian restaurants often, and sometimes cook Indian food myself, and found this restaurant exceptional. The menu features a wide range of Indian dishes, many highly unusual. The service was great, attentive without being intrusive. We asked many questions about the more novel and exotic dishes and their ingredients and experimented with several. What a pleasure to discover such a terrific place. They made us feel at home.
The food is superb! The wait staff is calm and able to pace the food service without one feeling rushed, but at the same time they are attentive without being intrusive. The entire atmosphere is one of calmness and quiet, where one can have quiet conversations with friends and linger with a glass of wine after dinner. One of my favorite restaurants.
This may be the best Indian food in the Rockville vicinity. It is quite good with several items I have not seen in other restaurants. Also, they now have beer and wine. More people should discover this place.
We had good food and good service but we were the only patrons and it wAs Friday night. The restaurant has the food part right. Now they need marketing.
Also they said they get a liquor license in April. I hope this is true because they will hurt without it.
