Saffron 685 Mediterranean Turkish Cuisine Ratings and Reviews
A lovely cute place, the dips stand out here, as I am a vegetarian this place tops for a vegetarian vegan options, had the gluten free Latkes and the appetizer trio meza entree which has: Moroccan carrot dip, organic beet root & pomegranate red pepper walnut dip, just excellent, service was fast & waitress was friendly enough and patient answering all questions, if you are not an alcohol drinker like me then try the freshly brewed mint lemonade.
If you are into a healthy meal or you prefer quality ingredients this is the place, it should be top on your list, no fuss, casual, seems to me a family owned as staff laid back, joke with you without putting an act or being robotic, which you don't find in a chain places.
They offer many delicious appetizers, the walnut beet dip and the pomegranate red pepper dip are both awesome, l would suggest ordering kind of tapas, different little plate so you get a chance to try as many apps as possible, don't miss on their fresh juices, the housemate mint lemonade or the pomegranate spritzer, the latter is my favorite.
Food was terrific. Restaurant was staffed by only one person. For all duties. Someone on the waitstaff other than the cook would be a good idea. Also, most focus seemed to be on delivery orders and not on our table of live humans. That was a little disappointing. Falafel and lamb were amazing so I'll happily return and see if it was just an off night. For now, I would recommend this place only for to go or delivery.
Nice Turkish place, I came here on an advice friend who said that it is one of her favorite restaurant in San Francisco. We were still pleasantly surprised by the relaxed, informal tone of the decor and the staff.
There is nothing fussy or stiff here.
Food was original full of favor, there is a Moroccan accent to many of the dishes, in the spicing if not in the ingredients.
The service was perfect for my taste, attentive, friendly, comfortable, and exquisite, many dips and spreads, beets crunchy walnut & pomegranate walnut red pepper dips are both top notch.
Server I believe Elena, she was patient with us she explained a lot about the food and made recommendations, but would leave us alone to enjoy the whole experience. Perfect.
What a treat! I took a group for lunch here after a volunteer event and we had a blast. The food was very fresh, delicately spiced with generous servings, you could tell they use good ingredients, the menu suited a broad range of taste preferences, dietary styles. The service was quite quick. The wait staff were friendly and helpful - one of our group had a disability that needed special accommodation that was graciously taken care of without asking. There were cushy pillows on the end lining the wall, , music add to the ambience. We had such a good time that we sat and chatted after the meal without feeling hustled to leave. Definitely worthy of many repeat visits. My only regret was not sampling the desserts.
I will rated one of the best mediterranean Turkish in the bay area even it is in an odd location, they bake the Zaater bread and desserts in the house, wide menu with variety of dishes and side dishes, unique place they care about details, normal tables and low ottoman tables with floor silk pillows and sappy baklavas.
At Saffron, even the coffee cups are real, Now that's a treat!
It is a must to try this place.
We enjoyed the food, service, and atmosphere very much. Very true to its tradition and quite cozy.
The handmade Zaaater bread was fresh within minutes from the oven. Made right in front of your eyes. The baklava was just amazing, you choose from 2 types, both light and crusty, and just the right amount of sweetness. I would recommend this place to anyone visiting the area.
Some of the best ethnic food can be found in the San Francisco and Saffron 685 ranks ,in my book, as one of the best places for Turkish Mediterranean food in all of San Francisco bay area.
The BBQ organic beef are hot flaky and mouthwatering, entree is big enough to split two ways. I tend to stick with Kebab, which is a spiced lamb kebab with saffron rice and salad, but I haven't had anything I didn't like. Turkish coffee and sweet syrupy flaky baklava always end my meal.
I have been in this place many time to eat and eat I just can not stop eating. amazing waitstaff, beautiful personal service.
The chef is one of the most kind generous man with sweetness, always with a hat on the head,
lol just try this place yourself and spare a space for the Konafa dessert.
This restaurant is an authentic Turkish gourmet. Food and service is spot on. Wait staff was attentive, food was very good, super fresh with good ingredients. I just thought it was more on the pricey side, but it is SOMA and that's San Francisco, so maybe it's not... It's tucked in between stores in a strip mall type of building, easy to miss... but worth a try. Good food, good service... If you're in the mood, try it.
This is one of the more authentic Turkish restaurants in SOMA. It features a wide assortment of Turkish Mediterranean dips and mazes including not limited red pepper pome dip with walnuts, spicy green pepper dip and organic beet walnut dip, the latter is my favorite.
The soup is the perfect dish for a chill winter night. My first choice will be the roasted red bell w/ grilled eggplant because it is like two meals to me. When it arrives to the table to slowly enjoy.
The grilled wild Salmon and Manaesh Zaater plates are one of the best I've ever had.
parking is bad due to all tech companies in the area, however I noticed most restaurants near by don't get busy for dinner! I don't mind as long as the food that good.
Saffron 685 has been one of those places that I walk by frequency but never made the time to try it. Family owned authentic Turkish restaurant, once you try it & quickly it'll be your casual upscale getaway dining spot. A friendly atmosphere with friendly waitstaff, great wines list and of course many delicious plates will put Saffron on your San Francisco Mission map.
The kebabs are tender juicy and the different vegetarian dishes excel at this reasonably mid priced,
Serving Mediterranean tasty mazes with many gluten free varieties such as pancakes "latkes" crispy on the out side, well cooked on the inside, my favorite way to have latkes.
The falafel also gluten free & served with tahini paste, as someone below said if you are sauce holic this is the place, they also have larger plates with different varieties served in slick south of market Potrero digs; service is generally attentive and the atmosphere pleasant.
special thanks to Vika.
Excellent food, great service. order the Moroccan mint tea! Hot yet refreshing. Service was very friendly, and they were more than happy to make a substitution for my friend (extra veggies instead of rice with her entree). Hummus was fantastic. I was a little thrown by their falafel sandwich preparation (smushed & grilled in flatbread like a panini) as I'm used to the Israeli stuffed-pita style, but the flavours were great. Would definitely dine here again next time I'm in town.
I live in the neighborhood and frequent this great Mediterranean Turkish restaurant. I especially like the maza platter and the seafood, chicken, vegetable or lamb. The service is friendly and attentive and the staff will go out of there way to make you feel at home here.
Many times l've been at this Turkish restaurant for lunch or dinner, what set this place from other restaurants the cleanness of the place & the freshness of the food.
They have different varieties of dips & side dishes, l try different dishes and they all delicious and authentic. Grilled salmon fillet entrées is fabulous, one of my favorites
The staff are very welcoming and warm. Great atmosphere. Quaint and cozy. Great food, great place, :)
I had an early dinner there and found it extremely worth while. All of the dishes were well prepared. We would particularly recommend the antipasti Meza platter which had a variety of excellent flavors and tid bits that all seemed to mesh very well. The waitstaff service was good (but a person we had was new to the job and still learning, won't hold that against them!) and prices for what we got were good value. All in all highly recommended.
We discovered Saffron 685 a few years ago, and it never disappoints. We've been back several times, the food is so fresh with high quality ingredients, they make unique apps & dips which give the place a better rank than other Mediterranean Turkish places, I always love family owned restaurants since I was in New York. The pomegranate walnut dip & the beets walnut dip are one of my favorite, BBQ's prawns are delicious & smells fantastic.
Parking could be pain not easy for lunch, however dinnertime plenty of street parking.
Saffron is a wonderful place for a date or a casual Dinner with friends. The food was a delicious array of flavors. The service was wonderful, and the ambiance is quite fun. My friend and I both had the latkes & beef steak which were delicious! I highly recommend eating here!
The food we ordered was excellent. we had many appetizers so we could taste a bit of everything. The baba ghanoush and organic beets dips are one of the best I've ever had. We split the grill stake mix and there was plenty of food for 2, beef, vegetables, chicken and shrimp were perfect! Service is attentive and cordial. Nice atmosphere!
I've been going to this place for the last 9 years I like the atmosphere, the authentic food especially the grilled vegetable plate, the grilled wild salmon, the brazed lamb meat, taste from heaven, the organic beets app. everything I mean everything.
Kudos to the chef, he is an artist in his job, the only thing I would like to say I like the konafa dessert more when it is with almonds than Pistachios but this is my personal preference.
Can't wait to go there again. Thanks saffron.
This place is Amazing! A must go, especially if you'r here for a trip, or just for flat out, great quality food and awesome customer service.
The server kept checking if we were enjoying the food. Not to mention the food was so delicious! YOU ! I will definitely be back & back.
We thoroughly enjoyed this restaurant. The Maza sampler was great, and this restaurant does pita more like focaccia. The beefsteak is delicious, and so is the chicken . They have very interesting appetizer/side dishes, so we did more of them and only the two entrées between three of us. It was perfect, and allowed us to try the desserts, which were great.

Saffron 685 has been one of my favorite dinner spots for years. the menu is fantastic. Delicious dinner creations. They also have a fantastic happy hour menu with cheap snacks and drinks. And as always many vegan options. Definitely try this place for lunch or dinner.
A bit hectic and a bit noisy for lunch, but, oh, the food! Mediterranean/Turkish and prepared beautifully, including a very traditional Azme, the roasted pomegranate red pepper/tomato. Good wine/beer selection and good waitstaff. Definitely a place worth going to for a long dinner and conversation.
We were seated in the back corner. Our waiter was very informative, seemed genuinely interested and knowledgable about the menu. Our party ordered the walnut roasted red pepper with pomegranate appetizer to share, grilled lamb, saffron rice and the fish with grilled prawns plate. All the food had wonderful flavor combinations and was artistically presented. There was a complimentary Turkish delight, that was delicious.
I selected the restaurant for our group of 6 so we'd be close to Cirque du Soleil, and not pay $100 a couple or more. The Cirque tickets had already set us back a bit. Plus mediterranean food was my preference. We were the only group there. We were the only people there. There was one waiter for the evening. He did not seem interested in our experience. Three of us had the lamb kabob which was ok. One ordered a falafel that looked like a solitary burrito served without garnish or sides in the center of a barren plate. The food was adequate, but I would not recommend this place and will certainly not return. Our waiter took my plate, set it on top of my wife's plate, and stacked up a few more plates. He hadn't asked if I was finished. I was not.
