All the staff were great especially Zack and Wanna. Also the little one.
What a great place! We were there at sunset, which was perfect for the view OceanCliff provides. Chef cooked my salmon and my husband's lamb exactly the way we asked. The patio looks awesome for summertime dining. Wine is not absurdly priced, but draft selection is small. We had a great night at Safari Room!
We went to the Safari Room for Newport Restaurant Week. They had an excellent menu and every course was delicious from the roasted beet and spinach salad to the seafood pasta that was chuck full of fresh lobster, scallops and Shrimp. We didn't get to enjoy the incredible ocean views as it was after dark but it is still a special place. We will return!
Good. Great service thank you for everything
Delicious food. Our entire group of six were extremely happy with our meals. Planning to return.
We visited the Safari Room for restaurant week in Newport. We had always wanted to go there for dinner and this was a great opportunity at special prices. I had the seafood sauté and my wife had the lamb chops. Both were delicious. We also had the yellow fin tuna and beet salad appetizer. Preparation and presentation were great. For desert we both had the pie. It was similar to a key lime but better with a crushed almond crust. Definitely a venue to visit again and again.
First time here and although it was only open for restaurant week the food offered was delicious. The wine and rink menu was excellent and the chef had his own personal dishes which were amazing. If you want the best outdoor seating and views go here, it's worth it.
It was very difficult to find the front door. However, once we made it inside we had a great food, service, and ambiance.
My husband and I went to celebrate my birthday during restaurant week. Even though there was a fixed menu, the options were great and we enjoyed all of our food choices. We were surprised at the great portion size! The only complaint that we had was the price of our drinks, we each had two and that bill was $60! We will definitely come again, maybe not during restaurant week so that we can try other menu items.
Beautiful setting, excellent food and great service!
Great food and service for Newport Restaurant week!
Drove all the way out there just to see a sign that said they were closed. Should have called the reservations to let us know
Our baked clams appetizer were ice cold in the center and our entrées were not even warm. We ordered the surf and turf and the fillet and asparagus were not even remotely warm and we had to ask for butter with the lobster tail. They seem surprised we wanted melted butter with lobster tails and only brought it for one of us. At that point it hasdtaken so long for them to redo our food so we had warm food we just shared the butter.
The atmosphere at the restaurant was lovely and the service was very attentive. We found that our main dish, swordfish, lacked flavor. The side dishes were better, but overall felt that the quality of food was lacking. The value for your meal was low, as the dishes were somewhat expensive.
Special menu for Valentine’s Day was superb!
The Safari room really made our Valentines Day very special! The food was delicious and the ambience very romantic. Can’t wait to return!
Food was delicious but a little pricey for the portions. Beautiful location and ambience... Thank you!
The Safari Room restaurant is an open air dining room with a covered patio for outdoor dining in the summer. The restaurant overlooks the Newport Channel with big ships sailing in and out of Newport Harbor. I took my wife there as a surprise for her birthday in January in New England. As you can imagine the place was very quiet in the dead of winter but the food was exceptional. Rhode Island is currently hosting restaurant week so we got an incredible meal for a pittance of what it would cost in Boston. Beet salad and crab cakes for appetizers, 8oz filets with lobster tails and shrimp scampi and dessert for $50/person!
OceanCliff Resort occupies the site of the former Bronson Villa. Owned by Arthur Bronson of New York, the Villa was built in 1864 by the architectural firm Peabody & Stearns from Boston who designed the original Breakers and Doris Duke's Rough Point, both located on elegant Bellevue Avenue. Great location for weddings, anniversaries, and celebrations of all kind.
Ocean drive is New England's version of Pebble Beach's 17 mile drive. Ocean views, parks, and concerts in the summer! One of the best kept secrets in New England!
I know it was New Year's Eve and there was also a wedding going on....but, I ordered the duck and was told it would be WELL DONE. I asked if it could be medium. The duck was COLD but cooked medium. The confit was SO OVERCOOKED I could not eat it (impossible to chew). The dessert and other parts of the meal were wonderful as were our servers and Ashley and another charming woman who's name I am blocking. I have been here before and will return again for another meal....will need to reconsider NYE however.
I went for my birthday and it was ok the waiter was terrible but the place was very nice but expensive
We went for dinner; I had the shrimp and my kids had grilled chicken sandwiches. My meal was delicious and my kids enjoyed the chicken. They said it was really flavorful. However, the fries were ok (they were parsnip instead of potato).
Went after a holiday tour of the mansions. It was the perfect ending to a December night out in Newport AND it was warm and cozy.
Lovely setting, excellent cuisine, excellent service
While visiting Newport, we stumbled upon the Safari Room. We enjoyed the beautiful decor and delicious food. While a bit out of the way, it's definitely worth the trip. Highly recommend.
Once we came into the driveway there were no signs telling us what building it was. A little more signage would be nice.
It must be an awesome place to be in the warmer weather.
Restaurant week is always a deal and a good time to try out this scenic restaurant. The food was just good. The only thing outstanding was the chipotle butternut squash soup. Everything else was good. The fish & chips were actually kind of a disappointment. The portion was small and the fish and fries were a little soggy. But the ambiance was worth the drive.
I went with a friend for lunch during Restaurant Week. We'd both been before and were disappointed that the meal was so bad. Unfortunate, as this is one of the loveliest locations in Newport.
I always enjoy going to the Safari Room. We only go a few times a year for certain occasions, but when we do go the service is always great and the food is always excellent. We always enjoy the whole experience!
The food at the Safari Room Restaurant has always been consistent and very good. My wife and I have been coming here to dine for several years and we've never had a bad meal. The menu always has several standard items and some new dishes you wouldn't necessarily find at other restaurants. It's a great value for the quality of the dining experience.
Although we were late for our reservation, it was well received and an enjoyable day
Went there for lunch after doing the new "under the Breakers" mansion tour - would not have thought about it but for their participation in "Newport Restaurant Week - $16 lunches for 3 courses (also $35 dinners).
Food choices were three for each course .. I had Brie and Pear salad .. Fish and Chips (sweet potatoes) and Creme Brûlée with fresh fruit - all good lunch portions and very well presented and delicious. My wife had the "stuffy", chicken flatbread, and chocolate bread pudding. All terrific.
This was very good value in an up market restaurant- we'll be back but will likely quite a bit more!
Sat "outside" under fully glassed in heated tent, an extension of the main restaurant with a great water view of the south of Jamestown and Castle Hill Coast Guard bots and station on a beautiful, if a little nippy day.
Ocean View has always been one of my favorite restaurants and in the past, the service was always a bit slow but nothing to take too much into account for. My friends and I decided to attend for this year's restaurant week, and I get it, you get a different crowd than normal who traditionally have lower value bills. I will start with the fact that the only available seating was OUTSIDE. Yes it was covered in a tent with flaps and heat lamps, but it was so cold I did not take my jacket off the entire time. The service was very slow, I think there was only one waiter working with a few runners. Our food was all cold when it was served and very bland. Traditionally the food is fantastic and has a wow factor. My water was never refilled, not once after we were seated. I will say they were accommodating because I had to change our reservation but I was very unhappy with the experience this time, as well as my friends who I dined with. Because the experience prior to this has always been positive we will go back one more time, but this has left a very poor taste :(
My friends and I selected this restaurant during Restaurant Week because its menu was more creative than most. We were not disappointed. Each dish was well presented, generous in portion and cooked perfectly.
Great place, great view and great food! What more could you want?
We took advantage of the restaurant week special - every dish was a winner: creative, flavorful and memorable. Service was flawless.
It was Restaurant Week and the menu was excellent. Many options, even for a choosey eater. The service was excellent.
Service was lacking with server coming over very few times and never asking if we wanted anything (coffee) with our deserts until after we finished them. I know it was restaurant week but I don’t feel that should be a reason to let go on service.
This was a great find during restaurant week. I wouldn't have thought of this venue other than as a wedding venue. Will definitely dine here again.
My review is for people who come here dining in the off-season. We were there during the last week that the restaurant keeps the patio open (covered and with heaters) but open at that. The next weekend i was told, they move completely inside. Me and my two friends dined on a Saturday evening around 7:30pm. There were about 5-6 other tables filled, the room was essentially empty. The food was okay, but to be honest i almost can't remember what i got, it was unmemorable. Also the burrata is essentially made for one person - i would describe it was a small scoop of ice cream.
I'm sure this place is much more worth it to go during the summer due to it's beautiful location, but besides that it's just okay.
Food was terrible. Would have had a better meal at Denny's.
