About Safari Room Fresh Grill and Bar
It doesn't take an explorer to seek out the aptly named Safari Room amid the exotic zebra-print furniture and carved elephant busts of the Davenport Tower lobby. The frequent hum of activity, the sparkle of laughter and conversation — not to mention the incredibly affordable lunch and dinner specials — seem to draw scores of guests almost instinctively.
Since opening in 2007, this truly stylish restaurant has had the quiet distinction of becoming a kind of pet project to owner Walt Worthy. It is a place where he has been able to introduce all the classic Southern fare from his youth in Georgia: dishes like homestyle grits, savory smoked barbecue, indulgent fried okra, and flatbreads fired in a special oven then sprinkled with tantalizing toppings. Yet the menu is broad enough to satisfy all cravings, no matter whether it's breakfast, lunch, or dinner.

Safari Room Fresh Grill and Bar Ratings and Reviews
We had a Christmas dinner reservation for three. Had to wait to be seated. Our server was competent and pleasant, but the food took over an hour to arrive and was just so-so--husband's filet was supposed to be rare, but it came out medium, fries were stone cold, and the bread pudding was dry and flavorless. Seemed severely understaffed for such a busy holiday dinner service. Left there feeling sad and disappointed.
This restaurant has a lot of character. The service is excellent. The menu is "modernized" comfort food; many dishes with a Southern flair. I could have made a meal out of just the seafood chowder. My wife had the fried chicken and I had the lobster stuffed ravioli. Both were delicious. The desserts are also fun. Each one is served in a large shot glass. There is a number to choose from and they are just right after a hearty meal.
The service and ambiance were fantastic, and our waitress accommodated my group of friends by taking our pictures, and by giving us a last call before a Happy Hour was over. We had so much fun, and will continue coming down to celebrate our friendship during the Christmas season.
enjoyed Thanksgiving dinner in the Safari Grill. They were able to change the time for our reservations at the last moment. Although it was a bit loud it was busy and vibrant. The surroundings are beautiful, a wonderful historical building. The turkey dinner was delicious and the substituted something on my plate with no difficulty. The pumpkin pie was to die for.
I return to the Davenport Hotel every visit I enjoy in Spokane and have enjoyed each and every visit. I recommend anyone enjoying a meal at any of the dining locations in the Davenport and surprisingly they can fit any budget. Service is always friendly and attentive.
Went for a special occasion, food was good but not extraordinary. Staff was pleasant and competent. Ambiance is loud, busy, not great for private conversation. May be better if you go earlier or later, we were seated at 6:30 p.m. Currently traffic, construction, and parking are a nightmare, but that should be finished soon.
There were 4 in our party. All 4 meals were sent. Sick to the kitchen because they had sat under heat lamps and were cold. We were over charged for our meals and the manager Wanda Jones was the rudest person I have ever seen at a restaurant. She was unhelpful and escalated the situation. I called hotel and talked to a manger. 3 days later I get a call back from Kevin Miller and he was as rude as Wanda and less helpful than her. We were looking for nothing in return but an apology for rude service. Needles to say the protected in house and did not apologize. Highly recommend not going to any Davenport property in Spokane WA. Try Clinkerdaggers, they are awesome!!!
The food was just average, nothing that you could really put your finger on either way of good or bad. The service was average there again it wasn't good or bad. The atmosphere was lacking and with the bar next to the restaurant it was very loud.
When I go back maybe if I was in the area I'd stop in for lunch but probably not for dinner again. Better places in Spokane to eat in the Safari bar and grill.
I will go back, however:
the food was not the quality we have had in the past. eg. smoked ribs did fall off the bone but the outside was too tough to even chew most of it. Salads were very good and good sized.
Service was barely competent. About 5 minutes after taking our order, I asked our server what sides I requested. She hadn't asked, and since that is unusual, I didn't think anything of it at the time. When the salads came, we expected at least a couple pieces of bread ( unreasonable? ). It took another 5 minutes to get her attention to ask for some. I would have paid if this is considered a side but there was no charge. We had to request more water twice. She didn't check back. I would have requested coffee but we were prersentwed with the bill but she took off; then came back right away looking for my payment. We were still thirsty but decided it wasn't worth messing with it.
We were one of maybe 10 couples so she shouldn't have been overwhelmed. We have had a number of good meals there and will try again. The server was very pleasant but needs some additional training.
Sorry for long-winded reply.
Loved eating here! The food was pretty good. Came here on Valentine's Day and ordered the hummus plate and salmon w/lemon creams fettuccine. The hummus plate was AMAZING. The salmon and pasta was very good, salmon could've used more flavoring but the pasta was to die for! Ordered what I thought was a slice of key lime pie but turned out to be a shot glass with graham cracker at the bottom and key like filling with a little whipped cream on top. It tasted good, but was definitely not even $3 worth in terms of portion size. Overall, I would eat here again :)
This is a very nice hotel restaurant with a menu which should please most diners. The service was excellent, the prices were reasonable, and the specialty drinks were outstanding. We had a very pleasant early dinner here on Valentine's day after an afternoon symphony. Spokane is a city with a vibrant downtown and this is one of several quality restaurants to choose from.
We went on a very busy Saturday night for dinner before a play at the Bing. I would not recommend the Safari Room for a romantic dinner as the noise level was extremely loud. It appeared that the kitchen could not keep up with volume of diners as it took a long time to get our meal. Wish we remembered the name of the waitress as she was fantastic. She worked very hard to get us out in 90 minutes. My husband enjoyed the cheeseburger and would order it again. I thought the pulled pork was very dry and would try something else on our next visit.
Came to the Safari Room, which is the Davenport Tower Hotel during the holidays and it was decorated wonderfully and full of vitality. Valet parking and other perks for dining here, close to the main hotel where all the Christmas festivities take place. Perfect bit of fun for all us girls! Great food, happy hour prices and exotic cocktails!!
