Big disappointment. Long wait for food, fish overlooked as if it had been sitting under a heat lamp, server away from the table for long periods of time. Chatham needs this restaurant to be good!! Please make it better!
On the plus side, the Fried Green Tomato BLT is worth the trip. One of the best BLTs on the planet. The restaurant is expensive, but it is the definition of old, elite Cape Cod. On the minus side, they are poorly staffed. Or the staff is poorly managed. Or the staff is poorly distributed. Or something. We couldn't figure out what the deal was. Our waitress, though quite friendly, was totally in the weeds. It took forever for her to visit the table. When she finally took our drink order, she went ahead and took the food order, which made sense, but then only took one person's drink order and left before anyone else could order a drink. We finally called her over to give her the rest of the drink order and when the drinks were finally delivered, we had been sitting for 30 minutes. The odd thing was that she only had about three tables to handle and when the food came out, it was delivered by about 3-4 people that I had not seen previously. The manager needs to get these people out on the floor taking orders -- they couldn't be any worse than the waitress we had. Or more to the point, the manager needs to get out on the floor -- he or she was unseen and clearly oblivious to the state of the restaurant. What makes this all so weird is that the rest of the resort is over-the-top in terms of service. Very strange.
Great service and menu - pub atmosphere. Food was very good. Great place to bring kids and also a nice lounge and bar scene.
Lovely server. Accommodating to kids. Good was excellent, large portions.
Our waitress was fantastic which set the tone for the evening. From the yummy bread to the wonderful pasta dish everything was absolutely delicious!!
Good food, inside of a great resort but the downside is you are in a very cramped room with no views filled with resort guests (ranging from families with little babies to older folks). Very expensive for that combo but was worth a try
"I LOVED the location of this restaurant". First impressions set the tone for a wonderful July 4th celebration. It is located inside the Chatham Bars Inn. We were greeted with the valet staff who were very friendly & welcoming. They directed us to the "Sacred Cod" inside the Inn. The hostess staff greeted us like we were regulars even though it was our first time here. Our waitress Olivia was a delight! Very passionate about her job and her knowledge of the menu. After she described several dishes we had questions about, it was a tough decision because she made everyone sound so good. To start was a warm plate of parker house rolls with a homemade cranberry whipped butter spread. The Beet salad was delicious with arugula, goat cheese, & topped w/chopped pistachios in a light dressing. The tomato & garlic flatbread was very flavorful with ricotta, capers, & fresh basil. Our main entrees were the seasonal Haddock over lentils and my husband had the Tagliettalla pasta with fresh veggies in a light creamy tomato sauce which he said was the BEST dish he ever had anywhere!! Service was well-timed and friendly, wines were affordable." We did pass on desserts because we were meeting friends for ice cream. But I would like to come back to try either the house mini whoopie pies or homemade donuts with dipping sauce. Both looked yummy after seeing them enjoyed by the diners next to us.
The food and service were fabulous. Yankee pot roast and the halibut special were both packed with flavor and delicious. The fudge sundae was divine and perfect for sharing. The only drawbacks (which I could get over because the food was that good)...the decor is dated and fuddy-duddy...surprising given the prices and the location) and there were way too many screaming children.
We were warmly greeted when we arrived and seated right away. Our server was top notch. We started with some veggie plates from the farm. The eggplant dish arrived swimming in about an inch of oil. Unfortunately, that overwhelmed the dish. It also had a "toasted grain" on top of it that was the consistency of gravel. This would be a dish to skip! Our main courses were great on the other hand. The halibut special was beautifully prepared. The wine choices were also quite good. Overall, it was worth a trip back!
We had the greatest experience. Our sever was over the top impressive and made the night even better!!! We loved the food and service!!! We were guests at the Inn for 4 nights and this was our favorite meal!!
Not worth the cost.
Beautiful spot for a nice dinner! The highlight was the farm fresh appetizers- the caramelized cauliflower and snap peas with roasted onion were to die for. The cocktails were all delicious. The catch of the day was very simply seasoned, but tasty. The stuffed artichokes were a great vegetarian option.
The menu offerings were satisfactory. I had seen a review of the pot roast and it was accurate-excellent choice. Clam chowder - I found 'smoky' but OK. I have had better in Plymouth.
Overall pricey for both food and drinks but still a nice place for dinner. Wait staff are very attentive; our waitress was superb; very informed, a true pro.
Ended up at the Sacred Cod when our prior dinner plans fell through. Glad they did because we thoroughly enjoyed our meals and experience at SC. Our son said the crab cake was the best he's ever had (& he always orders them off any menu!) Whoopie pie dessert was yum and the service was fabulous and friendly from the valet all the way through to the hostess and server. A bit on the pricey side but we will definitely return.
Had been to Sacred Cod twice for dinner before recently brought family for dinner. We had a reservation and were seated by a host who appeared quite young (likely newly hired as he took some time to be sure he was seating us correctly). We were also told our waitress was being "trained." While she was quite pleasant, she seemed somewhat nervous as she read the specials and proceeded to take the men's meal choices first. We ordered a bottle of wine which was brought over promptly and poured. Also, food was brought out altogether which was impressive altho waiters did not seem to know who ordered what. Scallops and yankee pot roast both delicious. Prices are above average but after all, it is the Chatham Bars Inn. We did not order dessert.
Chatham has its share of nice places for lunch, but nothing can beat the Sacred Cod at Chatham Bars Inn for an upscale light meal in a great setting with professional service and excellent food you can count on.
This was a wonderful evening. I would say the Cobb salad had a bit too much cheese. And the lobster dressing preparation could be lighter.
Excellent waitress and friendly and accommodating hostess. Bread was incredible! We had the kale and sausage pizza, burger, scallops and farm salad with lobster salad. All were vary good. You may want to skip the funky cheese on the burger unless you're adventurous like that.
This was a great place to have our family reunion. Everyone was very nice and accommodating. All enjoyed the experience.
Beautiful surroundings, excellent food, extensive wine list and the desserts are outstanding and creative. Looking forward to our next visit.
The food excellent with generous portions. The service is outstanding . The atmosphere is exceptional. Could not find a negative. This is a must go place.
We all had a lovely dinner, the choice of entrées appetizers desserts etc. was wonderful but because the main dining room was closed for a wedding, it was very crowded in the restaurant and the noise level was quite high. However, in spite of all that, the service was excellent and it was very enjoyable experience.
Celebrating my Mother's 70th Birthday we chose to go to the Chatham Bars Inn andthe Sacred Cod for dinner. Our server was delightful and did a great job . The menu was over priced small portioned sizesand our food was under seasoned onthe fish dishes and very over cooked! The lamb papadelle was so strong with one flavor that it was difficult to eat . Appetizers and desserts were delicious. Coffee was over pricedand 11.00 for a glassof wine was a bit much! We were to send 2 dishes back but my mother did not wantto makea fuss. Sorry we did not. $232.00 for dinner for 4 with only 2 glasses of wine and water. Wow ! Noteven an offer for a little free treat for my Mother's Birthday. Will not return
Service was lovely, and food was fantastic. The Yankee Pot Roast with potatoes and carrots was the best we had ever enjoyed, and the famous hamburger was just wonderful.
We've dined there and at Stars several times. This is the first time we've had a waiter/waitress that just ready for the job. I think that she just needed a little more coaching.
Our server was great, beautiful Christmas decorations, but the steak I had ranks as the worst I ever had. Outback Steakhouse is better at a fraction of the price.
We dined at Chatham bars inn as a last minute decision and we are so happy we did. The service was excellent and the food as well. The price was shockingly affordable for the quality entrees we received. We will be back very soon.
This was our first time to the Sacred Cod and we loved it! Our daughter turned 17 and I had noted that in the Open Table reservation. When it was time for dessert I checked in with our waiter to add a candle - he said that it was all set. Her dessert arrived with Happy Birthday written in chocolate on the plate, a candle was lit, the waiter sang to her and the restaurant joined in! It was so spontaneous and not overdone at all. Can't wait to go back!
The service is outstanding! The food is delicious and the drinks are the best! We love it here!
The service was excellent, the ambiance very pleasant and comfortable. The food was good with a nice presentation, but a little pricey.
Tried the Sacred Cod as part of CC Rest. Week. Given reg. menu so had to request Rest. Week menu as our waiter didn't know anything about it. Items on hand-held menu did not match those on CC RW website, but the restaurant did accommodate our requests for salads as listed on website. Service seemed a little rushed as one guest had not finished her salad when the entrees were delivered. Food adequate--not outstanding. Very salty braised beef short ribs, but the celery root puree was outstanding. Had different food servers so no one item was correctly given to the appropriate person. A little disappointing as we had told our guests that they be impressed with CBI's quality, even during Rest. Week.
The service and food could not have been better. We were celebrating our 20th anniversary, and they let us choose our table. They comp'd our appetizer, and gave special attention to our celebration. The staff even wrote "Happy 20th Anniversary" in chocolate on our dessert plate. After dinner, we went out on the veranda that overlooks the ocean. It was a great night.
Very pleased with the quality of dinner at Sacred Cod and excellent service on a quiet Sunday evening. The pot roast consisting of short ribs served in a celery root puree with broccolini was particularly good. The food tariff is consistent with higher-end establishments in Chatham and the outer cape although the wine list is a touch pricey. However, the wine selections are very sound and satisfying. An overall good experience at a location we drop in to once or twice a year. The atmosphere at the Chatham Bars Inn and the view of the ocean before and after dinner is always pleasant.
Grew up in Chatham. Visited the CBI many times, including throwing special events and parties. Took family over after Labor Day crowds dispersed hoping to enjoy a nice night at the pub, The Sacred Cod. While our table was fine and the waitstaff were polite, and clearly relieved after a busy last week of summer, the night kicked off with being told that there was no Fish and Chips available, as they ran out of Haddock. Found that odd, being told this, after we had ordered, by the maitre d', given the CBI is located across the street from the famous Chatham Fish Pier. We were offered fried scallops..Ah-no. So two us had to order something else..which we did. Salads etc for appetizers brought out, along with drinks...fine. But then it was over literally, 45 minutes from appetizer removal, to get our entrees. We did not hear a word about their status, until after a half hour and hearing us looking around, the waiter came over and said another table had complained that their entrees had come out too fast. So he fired them late. What? Then another 20 mins later - they arrived. Sadly, my pasta bolognese was very heavy and very salty. (This after being asked if I wanted the usual balsamic glaze on top? On pasta bolognese!?) By this point it was after 10:00 and we were all not as hungry anymore. After they finally came back to clear, and not seeing anyone about dessert, they suddenly appeared with a cake and candle for my brother's birthday. At least that happened, after I had asked during reservation time and again, when we came into the pub. After that we didn't see anyone again...and my family went off and hunted down the waiter to pay the bill. All in all, given how quiet it was, we expected better given where we were. Yes, food was ok. And yes, initial service was good, but I think they gave up as the night went on. Odd...given a bunch of folks were still eating at the bar, watching tennis. Won't be rushing back if this is the best we can expect.
The service and venue were outstanding but the food was terrible. I had the fettuccine bolognese which I could barely eat. The pasta tasted like cardboard (did not order gluten free pasta) and the sauce did not hide the taste. My wife had Yankee pot roast which was chewy and the cream sauce was tasteless. Sorry but it was bad. Drinks on the front porch were the highlight of the experience.
The service was outstanding. Unfortunately, the food was very mediocre and expensive relative to its quality. We have eaten here a few times and our experience last night was consistent with other meals we've had here. If this restaurant wasn't located in the Chatham Bars Inn, it would go under quickly.
Food was decent but nothing to rave about. Better as a lunch spot or quick casual dinner. Food was overpriced and most items weren't perfectly cooked. Dry meat. Flat drinks. Etc.
Would recommend seeing the hotel and views of the beach from the other 2 restauants but that's about it!
Even on a very busy Saturday night, Stephan our server was amazing! They have marvelous farm to table food and truly unique cocktails. Expect a $50 per person experience - but service and food were excellent, yet casual.
We arrived early for our reservation and sat at the bar for an hour. The bar snacks and bartender made it such a great experience!
