Sacred Cod - Chatham Bars Inn Ratings and Reviews
We dined here earlier in the week and loved it, so we decided to come back again here days later. My wife wanted to try the chefs pairing menu his time and it was incredible. No two meals are the same, whatever the chef decides to send out at the time is what you get, but we both loved it all. We also had the staff sommelier create a wine pairing for the chef's selections and he was incredibly knowledgeable and friendly, discussing each wine and explaining why he chose what he did. Quaint dining room, tables are relatively close and no frills, but it is exactly what we wanted in this picturesque town.
Obviously the Chatham Bars Inn sets the stage for elegant Cape Cod dining....but the nuances of fine dining and attentiveness of the servers was not there. We were left with no cutlery for the oysters we ordered, wine glasses were left empty, fish and chips had a coating so thick that by the time you hacked your way through it, the cod inside was designated. Desserts were Nirvana -highly recommend the apple cider doughnuts and the pineapple upside down cake. If you're in Chatham, it's the thing to do, if you live there, it's become disappointing.
A very nice waitperson, however much for basic conversation......and not to busy to chat.....We were charged $16 each for a double shot of Dewar's scotch at the bar, and $12 for a single shot at our table. I asked our waitperson to check the price which she did, and she claimed it was correct........an outrageous price for a 1 oz. pour. We will not dine at The Sacred Cod again.
Overall experience was great. Nice environment. The CBI is a phenomenal property. Our waitress was attentive but did not hover.
One of the entrees was overcooked and dry. However, the rest of the food was very good. The server took one of the poor entree off of the tab
I would definitely try it again.
This lounge is very overpriced- my daughter had their swordfish special- it was good but a very small portion for over $20. Three people had pizza- really mediocre- doughy and lots of cheese. I had crab cake and salad- this was good but again very overpriced for what you get.
Be prepared for lots of young families with babies. Yikes
we arrived early to sit outside for drinks and enjoy the ocean view. Pleasantly surprised by the live music at the outdoor bar; very nice. Dinner inside, however, was very loud. Numerous families with young children and the voices bounced off the wood ceiling, walls and floor. We love kids, but be aware, this appears to be the informal dinner space for families. Our waitress was wonderful and service was very good. The food was good, but a little overpriced. I would go back for the outdoor seating, music and the view.
I will begin by saying that we arrived early and were accommodated with early seating which was appreciated. The food was very good however the service was dreadful. It took a full ten minutes before we were offered water and another 5 before drinks orders were taken... after more than 20minutes at our table we finally received drinks. Our appetizers were delivered with no inquiry as to if anything else was needed, I wanted salt and pepper as my husband's soup grew cold we tried to get someone's attention - finally he started eating his soup and the hostess responded to my signal - I asked for salt and pepper, she came back with a pepper mill handed it to me and rushed off. Main course arrived and my utensils had not been replaced , so again I spent about 5 minutes trying to get someone's attention, finally the server for the next table asked what I needed. At the end of our meal the waiter arrived with a flourish , and two truffles on a plate as a surprise for our anniversary, nice touch - but the truffles were charged on the bill, which they later corrected. Needless to say, we won't return.
We went to the Sacred Cod for my wife's birthday celebration. The Chatham Bars Inn is spectacular, unfortunately the Sacred Cod Restaurant didn't live up to the setting. As other reviewers have pointed out it was loud and had many children. The service team was efficient and pleasant. My wife ordered the "surf and turf special" for $47 -it was laughable, 2 scallops on a bed of some greens and a 4 oz petite filet mignon, we were shocked and were going to ask, "is this it?" I had the striped bass special, over cannoli beans- again a meager piece of fish with a major portion of beans - tasty but for the price the portion was undersized. Sadly to say we won't be back to this restaurant again - there are other better restaurants nearby that are a better value for the money and a step above the Sacred Cod
Two couples were celebrating their wedding anniversaries. We had been to the Sacred Cod last year and enjoyed the experience. This year not so much. My husband had to send his steak back twice because it was not cooked medium (too rare). It took a very long time so when he tired of waiting the second time -- he asked to have the meal removed from the bill -- he didn't want it. Both women ordered salad and a flat bread. What we received was not a flatbread but a very doughy pizza -- with more crust than filling.
The waitress was not on top of things at all. In fact it was difficult to find her when we wanted to ask where the steak was.
The manager did come over to apologize -- but too late. We were served a complimentary dessert but it did not make up for the poorly executed meal.
We will not return to the Sacred Cod.
The food presentation was beautiful. We ordered haddock served on a bed of lentils and the papardelle pasta with vegetables. Our appetizer was a very creative minestrone soup. All vegetables are farm to table. I detected a high level of sodium in the haddock and lentils. The minute I started to eat it, it screamed "salty". The wait staff was college age, however, they are trained in service.
I think if we been to Macdonald will be better service , the food come with out cover or service we've to ask each time & they come after 5 Min till the food come cold the boy drop the service in my lap and he didn't even say sorry, we ask for Manager and she come Mrs. Danijela Mcginley to say sorry for what happened, even after that we ask for espresso coffee again come with out suger or spoon they come after 10 Min when was Ice Coffee !!!!!!!!! We couldn't even drink it, I think we'll never recommend this to any one arround us but we'll tell every one what happened.

I have lived in Chatham for over 25 years and love the environment over at CBI, however the food at all the restaurants there (Stars, Sacred Cod, Beach House) is always disappointing and I'm very surprised that over all these years their quality of food hasn't changed? People pay an immense amount to have to stay there and the food from the apps to the main courses to the desserts are extremely underwhelming. I won't be getting food at the Sacred Cod again.
We dined at the Sacred Cod for a joint anniversary dinner with my parents! Everything was wonderful. The Sacred Cod's tavern style dining room and lounge allowed our party of six (including two young children) the opportunity to enjoy a fancy dinner in a spectacular place, The Chatham Bars Inn. The noise level was ideal in drowning out our kids' chatter. The food and drinks were outstanding! We enjoyed barrata salad, gazpacho, oysters, pot roast and scallops! Everything was out of this world. The views and environment are spectacular. We've already recommended to a friend and would go back!
Went here with 6 friends for a birthday celebration on vacation. Had a reservation... Took about 5 min. for them to get our table set. The calamari and clam chowder were delicious! The beet salad, pretty good but small. The scallops for the price was a bit of a skimpy portion size. Mussels were decent. Ambience was nice! Service was great. Cooks messed up birthday boy's dinner and they brought him his dinner about 5-7 min later. Did provide him free delectable chocolate birthday cake though Would probably dine there again.
The food was very good. Cedar planked haddock was served on a bed of beluga lentils. Very good and complex taste. The Pork tenderloins were a bit over cooked and on the dry side. The sweet and sour eggplant appetizer was excellent. One drawback to the appetizer was the crispy farro on the top. Very hard and almost like popcorn kernels. Farro is chewy enough that it would have been better with the grain just cooked and not "crisped".
Service was outstanding. Our waitress was pleasant, upbeat and attentive. Everybody who works there was smiling, and greeted you when they walked past. Free valet parking around the back was convenient since parking in Chatham can be problematic. We'll go again and try their brunch on Sunday, or sit out on the front porch for some flatbread and wine.
On the plus side, the Fried Green Tomato BLT is worth the trip. One of the best BLTs on the planet. The restaurant is expensive, but it is the definition of old, elite Cape Cod. On the minus side, they are poorly staffed. Or the staff is poorly managed. Or the staff is poorly distributed. Or something. We couldn't figure out what the deal was. Our waitress, though quite friendly, was totally in the weeds. It took forever for her to visit the table. When she finally took our drink order, she went ahead and took the food order, which made sense, but then only took one person's drink order and left before anyone else could order a drink. We finally called her over to give her the rest of the drink order and when the drinks were finally delivered, we had been sitting for 30 minutes. The odd thing was that she only had about three tables to handle and when the food came out, it was delivered by about 3-4 people that I had not seen previously. The manager needs to get these people out on the floor taking orders -- they couldn't be any worse than the waitress we had. Or more to the point, the manager needs to get out on the floor -- he or she was unseen and clearly oblivious to the state of the restaurant. What makes this all so weird is that the rest of the resort is over-the-top in terms of service. Very strange.
"I LOVED the location of this restaurant". First impressions set the tone for a wonderful July 4th celebration. It is located inside the Chatham Bars Inn. We were greeted with the valet staff who were very friendly & welcoming. They directed us to the "Sacred Cod" inside the Inn. The hostess staff greeted us like we were regulars even though it was our first time here. Our waitress Olivia was a delight! Very passionate about her job and her knowledge of the menu. After she described several dishes we had questions about, it was a tough decision because she made everyone sound so good. To start was a warm plate of parker house rolls with a homemade cranberry whipped butter spread. The Beet salad was delicious with arugula, goat cheese, & topped w/chopped pistachios in a light dressing. The tomato & garlic flatbread was very flavorful with ricotta, capers, & fresh basil. Our main entrees were the seasonal Haddock over lentils and my husband had the Tagliettalla pasta with fresh veggies in a light creamy tomato sauce which he said was the BEST dish he ever had anywhere!! Service was well-timed and friendly, wines were affordable." We did pass on desserts because we were meeting friends for ice cream. But I would like to come back to try either the house mini whoopie pies or homemade donuts with dipping sauce. Both looked yummy after seeing them enjoyed by the diners next to us.
The food and service were fabulous. Yankee pot roast and the halibut special were both packed with flavor and delicious. The fudge sundae was divine and perfect for sharing. The only drawbacks (which I could get over because the food was that good)...the decor is dated and fuddy-duddy...surprising given the prices and the location) and there were way too many screaming children.
We were warmly greeted when we arrived and seated right away. Our server was top notch. We started with some veggie plates from the farm. The eggplant dish arrived swimming in about an inch of oil. Unfortunately, that overwhelmed the dish. It also had a "toasted grain" on top of it that was the consistency of gravel. This would be a dish to skip! Our main courses were great on the other hand. The halibut special was beautifully prepared. The wine choices were also quite good. Overall, it was worth a trip back!
