Set in an old cotton mill in the middle of the Warehouse District, Sac-a-lait showcases refined southern Louisiana dishes. Friendly and attentive service. The food was incredibly delicious and creative, without being pretentious. Ambience was quiet, earthy, and industrial but still had an air of romance. Excellent place to celebrate a special occasion!

Sam and Cody ha e captured the true essence of Cajun food. I haven’t had that taste since I was a kid. Amazing job guys.

The menu was very adventurous and well thought out. The combinations of flavers and ingredients we excellent. The chef is doing a great job. Our server was on top of the menu and had easy answers to all our questions. Both food and service was top shelf.

Doubt I’ll be back. Had the venison with cane with potatoes, small portion.. No veggie. No salad and no bread. $26.00. Service was great. But did feel pressure to purchase additional plates. We ate our entrees which was very good and went for pizza down the block.

I saw this restaurant on the food network and wrote the name down so I wouldn't forget. Wow!! The food was adventurous, like nothing I've ever seen on a menu and so tastey. The fact that it is farm to table makes this place one of a kind. The first course that came out was delivered by one of the owners themeselves. I was almost star struck being such a foodie. She was so cool and then brought her husband by to meet us after we said we saw them on TV. The waitress, bartenders, owners and especially the grub are all awesome!!!! I'll be back and I've already told several they need to go.

This was my second time here. My first experience was so good, I was concerned that my expectations were too high for this visit. I’m glad to say I was wrong. The food was top notch, as one would expect for New Orleans. The husband/wife owners and chefs are from Pointe Coupee Parish (think south central Louisiana west of Baton Rouge) and their hunting/farm menu reflects their roots. If you want great food without the long lines of tourists, try Sac-a-lait before they discover it. Take it from this local. You can’t go wrong here.

Almost everything was quite spicy.After a week in NOLA, I wanted something that wasn't! The chargrilled oysters were excellent. My friend ordered a beet pie, was specifically told it was not spicy, but it was. Desserts were tasty, except for the filé ice cream (yuk).

Best meal we had in New Orleans! Very creative plates served at an easy pace. Try the beet pie, mushrooms, broiled oysters, and crawfish pie!

We had a terrible experience with the service. From the moment we walked in the hostess refused to make eye contact and spoke to me in a very condescending manner. We were here for a wedding and everybody was well dressed and had just come directly from a church service. The hostess was not happy to see so many people want to give the restaurant business and did everything she could to dissuade is from staying. She told us that we could crash the bar “if you really wanted to stay”.

Once we were at the bar, the service never got better. We waited for an hour and a half while asking three times to get some water. It took them 40 minutes to take our food order despite us trying to ask nicely. We felt ignored and marginalized even when we were paying a high value for a good experience.

The food and drinks were fine. The menu seemed creative but nothing blew us away. It would have been fine if the service wasn’t so awful but we were all left with a sour taste in our mouths. Unfortunately i would not recommend this restaurant.

I had two evenings to eat out in New Orleans and wanted to try both a traditional and a modern take on creole cooking -- modern won! Sac-a-Lait is in a handsome space with attentive service, creative cocktails, and a pretty good (not really great) wine list. The dishes were all interesting and some of them were worth coming back for. I particularly liked the deviled crab; my husband loved his wagyu beef and cornbread appetizer. But I was underwhelmed by the undercooked venison (they told me it would be seared; perhaps I should have known that meant it would be raw inside) and the molasses spoonbread we chose for dessert was, well, OK. Neither one of us could quite talk ourselves into ordering anything with alligator in in. Maybe next time.

The food was outstanding and creative. The venison and the rabbit were fabulous. The beet empanada was surprising and filled with flavor, and the octopus poboy (on a black squid ink baguette)was one of the best octopus dishes I have had —and I have had many. The service was excellent. The cocktails! We’re delicious. The dinner was a hit in every respect. We will definitely go back the next time we’re in NOLA.

After seeing Samantha and Cody on the Food Network I was really looking forward to trying their food. Sac a Lait takes rustic Cajun cuisine and successfully elevates it to a very high level. Their contemporary take on tartar sauce was so good that my wife actually ate and enjoyed veal brains! The venison backstrap was so tender and flavorful. I knew from watching the show that this couple would not serve anything that they had not repeatedly tested. To see Samantha work the hostess stand, wait tables while Cody actually cooked showed the personal level of commitment to their restaurant. She is as down to earth as she appears to be on the show. One last thing: our server Corey was knowledgeable, personable and attentive. He helped make our dining experience a great one.

The food and drink were creative, attractive and tasty! Particularly liked the tartar...so yummy! The only negative was that heat was used on several of the dishes and while we like heat, we would have appreciated more varied tastes.

This was our first time trying out Sac-a-lait, and we were not disappointed one bit. We were a party of 5 adventurous eaters who were not afraid to try some of the more unique items on the menu.

Our fare
Chargrilled oysters - wonderful flavor, not overwhelmed with butter and cheese. Deliciously briny.

Tuna Tartare - served with fried venison sweetbreads, this was amazing! The tuna was perfect and the sweetbreads were creamy and delicious.

Blackened Redfish - beautiful flavor, wonderful presentation. Cooked perfectly.

Octopus poboy - served on a black bread with a creamy sauce. Octopus was firm but not chewy, great flavor.

Alligator and Mirliton - fried perfectly, not chewy at all. Great remoulade pairing to go along with the dish.

Duck hearts - wow! Served with a brown gravy and grits, this was a winner! Delicious flavor, not at all what I was expecting.

Veal brains - yes, I said brains. Fried up and served in small bites that were remarkably creamy, rich and delicious.

Backstrap - cooked rare, served with a chimichurri and potatoes cooked in duck fat. Tender and delicious!

Frog croquettes - delicious little morsels, but probably the least interesting item we sampled. Good, but not over the top like the others.

Hen of the woods - beautiful array of mushrooms with a tasty sauce, great pairing with the other items.

Great cocktails as well, and a delicious dessert to wrap up the evening. I will definitely be returning for another adventure.

There’s a reason why this place made the top ten. Best chargrilled oysters I’ve ever had-fresh and innovative plates to follow. I considered this meal to be a religious experience and would recommend to everyone. The craft cocktails are similarly divine!

Loved the whole date night at this place. Laid back and very unique menu. The oysters were the best and a little kick to it. And we love our oysters! The venison was not game-y tasting and very light. That is hard to do but tells you how well seasoned and cooked it was.

If you are interested in very unique dishes with local farm to table flair, you’re in for a real treat! Maurice was our server, and did a great job helping us to understand the unique preparations of the menu. The crab dish is awesome, as is the backstrap, quail. The “gumbo” should probably be named something else, since it is so far from a Southern gumbo, but it is delicious nonetheless!

What an absolute gem for adventurous dining! Fabulous farm to table selections that change each week. Everyone is very friendly, and the owner/chefs even invited us to tour the kitchen and chatted with us. The handcrafted cocktails are delicious and the chocolate bread pudding is absolutely elegant. We will return anytime we are visiting New Orleans.

Almost 30 minute delay in seating (with reservations) and empty tables visible. As far as the menu is concerned, I’m not a fan of the small plate style menu which does not pair well with the Louisiana fish and game. Full plate entrees would be more appropriate and a much better value.

This was by far the best meal we had in NOLA. The food was local and creative, and the staff attentive and professional. Maurice was the best! Wish we would have found this place on our first night so we could have dined there more than once.

One of the best meals I’ve ever had. Creative delicious dishes. Attentive well trained staff who are serious about the quality of food and drinks and service. But friendly and engaging as well. Highly recommended.
