My friend and I stopped in to try Cuban food for the first time before attending our show at the Weinberg. It is within walking distance and seemed like a good value when we looked online. We both ordered the avocado and tomato salad, which was a generous portion and was cut up into small pieces, just the way I like it. I can't stand having huge chunks of lettuce in a salad! This was perfect and tasty. My friend ordered the sizzling shrimp platter and I ordered the sizzling trio platter, which included shrimp, beef and chicken. sauteed with peppers and onions. It was served with rice and black beans. Delicious! We will definitley stop in again the next time we are catching a show at the Weinberg Center.
Nice, quiet restaurant. Food was great. We weren’t rushed and were able to enjoy our afternoon meal.
We made a last minute reservation and got seated about 20-30 minutes later. The appetizers were really good. We had the beef and chicken empanadas as well as the Cuban sandwich. However, the entrees were barely average. The vaca frita was pretty dry and not flavorful at all. The pernil was ok and not very flavorful either. The same could be said for the ropa vieja. It was a good experience overall but I doubt I will visit again.
Great food! The snapper was fantastic. The ceviche was amazing too. Empanadas needed some sauce because they were a little dry. Great drinks too!
Our server Henry was very attentive and knowledgable. All entrees in our group of four were all enjoyed.
We like cuban food, especially what I believe is their national dish "Old Rags" or in this case "Ropa Vieja" which is how it's listed the menu. Both my wife and dad got this and it was terrific. I got the first entree listed on the menu, the grilled steak, and it was not all that. Kind of bland to be honest. However when I put some of my wife's dish on top it was just fine.
The food was good but the service was very mediocre. I ordered a mojito and the waitress brought a margarita. That was taken care of, then there were four of us at the table and two of us got their entrees and my friend and I had to sit and wait for at least 10 minutes for ours. The people who got their food first were almost done by the time our entrees arrived. It was pretty clear that our entrees probably hadn't even been started at the point that the 1st two arrived. This was our first time here and I had been really looking forward to it, so it ended up being a disappointment.
This place is a real gem! You wouldn't know it from the outside, but it had some of the tastiest food I've had in years. The food is simple and authentic, but bursting with flavor. Our server told us that the head chef is Cuban and the recipes are from his grandmother. You can certainly taste the love!
It was a great place everyone was very kind and nice I enjoyed eating there.
I am Cuban and this food is both authentic and delicious.
The food is wonderful, definitely authentic Cuban food! I come here every time I’m in Frederick and have never been disappointed.
We have been here often and have never been disappointed.
Everything was great....
This was our second visit on a Saturday. Very busy! Thankfully, we had reservations. Those who didn't were being told that the wait time would be 1-2 hours! Food is authentic Cuban. Friendly wait staff.
THE SPOT: Not very big but a great neighborhood place that makes the most of the space they have. Small bar but it works in the space available. Sangria light and refreshing, not strong. Mojitos very good. You MUST try the "Painkiller", but proceed with caution. The rum is well concealed and sneaks up on you. If i lived nearby, i would drop by for a quick one until everybody knew my name. LOL.
Clean, including the ladies room with a full sized changing table for the babies. Hubby said the men's room also has a changing table but the restroom wasn't as clean.
THE FOOD: Delicioso! Everything was fresh. Served hot - so good!!! Veggie empanadas was a new thing for me but was pleasantly surprised. Tostones rellenos with beef - so good!!! I had the pernil (roast pork) with white rice and black beans. Pernil was flavorful and tender, rice was fluffy, and the beans were seasoned to perfection.Hubby enjoyed his red snapper and really liked his red beans and rice. Ordered chicken empanadas and red beans to go and wasn't disappointed.
THE SERVICE: Excellent!!! Laura was very knowledgeable about the menu AND the bar drinks. Laura ended up servicing a large group of about 20 teens. Somehow, she STILL took care of us as well.Rest of the team on duty was equally awesome and filled in when Laura was occupied. Never saw the stress and never felt like we were imposing on them.
THE BOTTOM LINE: I was raised on this kind of food so I like to think I know what I'm talking about. Cant believe i didnt know about this spot sooner!! Thank goodness i don't live nearby or I'd be there more times than I should!!! I will be back!!! ¡Muchisimas gracias por todo, Sabor de Cuba!
Our party of six came away full and happy. Everything was fresh and tasty. Authentic Cuban food and great drinks.
I was just looking for a place to eat after a shopping trip to Hagerstown. Don't know how this place popped up, but my foreign visitors liked the idea of trying something new, so we went there. Our waitress was extremely helpful and knowledgeable. Made good suggestions. Loved our food and had a great experience.
We decided to try this place based on a recent ‘top-10’ list of sort that included it.
Even though we had made a reservation we ended up with a table with a view of the bathroom traffic, which was not optimal. The server was in so much of a rush (one of those that avoids eye contact as he walks by!) that the hospitality factor was lost. Menu prices for entrees are a bit on the high side, considering the ‘ok’ quality of the food and the ambience of faux plants and modest set up. What we ordered were the pricier items on the menu yet they tasted bland and the meat portions of them (beef and pork) were dry and less than prime.
Frederick has a number of good eateries but unfortunately our experience wouldn’t put this place among one of them.
The food was amazing as well as the drinks very friendly wait staff
First time here and we loved our waiter Henry, his service, and all of the food.
Always great food and service!
Was a nice resturant with availablility to reserve a table the night before Valentines day. Resturant Staff were nice and accomodating. The food was excellent! Service was gracious. Prices were reasonable. The only negative comment was that the table we were seated at was outside of the kitchen. The noise was not constant but 5 to 6 times during the meal there was a starteling banging which did make us jump.
Authentic Cuban food, very delicious. The wait staff was very accommodating. Really enjoyed both the sweet and green plantains at our table. The menu is varied and very reasonable.
We had excellent service and food came out quickly. The empanadas ( appetizer) were amazing but the main entree was not as good - pretty bland and very oily.
The staff was very accommodating of a gluten allergy.
Friendly staff, cozy place, and really good food!
Waiter was fantastic. Mojitos are excellent (have 2 every time!). Food is delicious and plentiful (you will need a take-home box!). The Seafood Paella is scrumptious!
Service was excellent, very attentive waiter. Food was just ok for me I love spicy and saucy and my pork was neither, the plantains were really good. Wished we had ordered the paella, it looked really good! Was not pleased with where we were seated, we had reservations and were seated in the back beside a group of 8 rude loudmouths who didn't care that there were other diners.
We love coming to Sabor de Cuba, we love cuban food!
Staff is very friendly and it's your mom & pop's place with flavorful dishes. Would recommenrd to change up the menu every so often like by adding dishes such as: vaca frita de pollo, arroz imperial, offer pastelitos de guayaba vs. emapandas for dessert.
Good night out with friends. Friendly, attentive service.
Was looking for food that was homemade, tasty and with some heritage -- well done and keep up the hard work!!!
Food is always great and the service is always spot on. Can’t go wrong with Sabor de Cuba
We love the food and we always love our waitress; she always has the biggest smile.
The lentil soup was quite good. The pollo en la plancha was a bit dry and the plantains we rather boring. After tasting the soup, I was expecting more flavor. Still, the menu is appealing and I'll probably give it another shot.
Food and service were amazing as usual! Restaurant was completely full and our drinks, appetizer and entrees still came out quickly and were perfect!
I was surprised to find this can restaurant in Frederick Md. I am of Cuban heritage and found the food to be authentic. It was well prepared and there were very creative Cuban offerings not found in so-called Americanized Cuban restaurants. The prices were also a pleasant surprise. Be advised, the appetizers are quite substantial so either make a meal of them or skip them and go for the main entrees. My wife and I will be back often.
Always a great choice for dinner and or lunch, and especially good in Frederick for pre/post theater dinners/drinks. Tx Michael for another great experience! Best, Scott & Nancy
Great Cuban food!
Loved this place and downtown fredrick is such a beautiful place. Will go to again.
