Sabor A Cafe Ratings and Reviews
disappointed with the service. server had too many tables to take care and I just see her at the time that took our order and when we were leaving that I had to go find her to pay. no enough light and appetizer was brought with the meal. rude at the time of pay the bill, my husband wasn't understanding the different way to take care paying with credit card, she want us to give her the credit card right away before seeing the bill. I was in this restaurant already three times but this recent one will be the last one. Thanks,
Made a reservation using open table. When we got there they continued to question the validity of my reservation even though I showed them the confirmation on my phone. They continued to say they didn't have it. Ok , fine. Initially they said that they didn't have any space for us, but then they said they could accommodate us. So they walked us to the back of the restaurant where the restrooms are and gave us a table that faces the wall. Then our server came over about 5-8 minutes after being seated, we hadn't even been given water yet, and asked if we were ready to order our dinner. We said we'd need a minute and he walked away without asking for our drinks. This type of service is basically how the rest of the night went. He brought out our appetizers after our dinner was already out, when our drinks were low instead of offering another he offered the check, and when we were finally ready for the check it took more than 20 minutes to get it and pay it. The food was tasty and reasonably priced, but the poor service and treatment weren't worth it. I wouldn't go again, but if you do, hopefully you have better luck with the service.
Upon arrival they said that they did not have my reservation even though I placed it. They then sat me at a table that faced the window. This was very upsetting to me seeing as I reserved in advance and drove an hour to get there. However, the food was excellent which made my mood change. In the end, I would recommend calling so you get a better spot in the restaurant.
I made a reservation for 3 people, but when we got to the restaurant we were informed that they only had us down for 2. The good news was we still got seated quickly and the food was good, but we were a little bummed that we couldn't be seated in the room with the band playing.
The staff was absolutely lovely, welcoming, and informative. Ate there for dinner. The food was flavorful. The drinks tasty and not lacking alcohol. There are two rooms for dining. The back room is where the stage is located. The front room has a huge screen to show the performing act. I was absolutely delighted with the band that had performed August 5. Parking near the restaurant was free and easy. No need to go to downtown Chicago for great food and entertainment when you and your family can go to Sabor a Café. I'm definitely planning to go back!!!
I saw the mixed reviews because of their service problem and thought that my group of 7 might get a better server. I was wrong. Sandra, the waitress, gave my group the worst service we had ever had. First, she double-checked two peoples drink order and brought the wrong drink. Mango and raspberry martinis were ordered and 5 minutes later came back and asked again what we ordered then brought a raspberry and dry martini. We asked her for a new martini and was later charged for her mistake. This did not happen when it was loud either. Then when the rest of the party came she asked for their drinks and then came back twenty minutes later to ask what they ordered again. After 30 minutes of waiting for the drinks we asked where they were and she double-checked and she went and put the order in. That was the point where we said forget ordering anymore drinks. The food and entertainment were both really good. I think if the restaurant is going to put an automatic gratuity of 17% then we should get appropriate service. Sadly, Sandra did not deserve that tip at ALL.
Very small restaurant, and based on the crowd and many reserved tables, very popular. Service was attentive. House salad was very good. My wife had a pork dish which she said was very good, also. I had a steak which was tender enough but was almost totally lacking in flavor, and it was accompanied by a sort of Columbian bread roll which tasted like paper. So, a mixed review: "Sabor" means "flavor" in Spanish but this restaurant was inconsistent in delivering it.
The food was very good! Lots of variety. The service is a bit spotty -- sat there for a while before anyone waited on us -- but our waitress was very helpful once she came! Interior was much more casual than I was expecting -- but definitely recommend it for the food!
The restaurant is small. I would recommend reservations. The drinks were very good. The food was just outstanding. All four people at our table had a different dish and all loved it. the empanadas as an appetizer was great. A small band came in and played. Very entertaining but it did get a little loud. very lively and friendly atmosphere. We will be back.
The food was good wish i could say the same thing about the service. They only had one girl doing everything, seating people, taking orders, ect. We were asked in the binning of the meal we were asked if we would like a drink which we received after that no one asked if would like another. We sat in the back and was so dark we had to use the flashlits on our cell phones just to read the menue. All in all I may go back to give it another try.
Arrived before my 5:00p.m. reservation for two, and was ignored for a full 5 minutes while the clerk I faced fiddled with pencil and paper. This clerk responded to questions from staff, but looked directly through me as if I didn't exist.
When my tolerance was exhausted I ask how long this clerk intended to ignore me and was told she was 'very busy,' before returning to her pencil and paper. Having exhausted my patience I protested loudly enough to arouse a manager's attention. (Could have been the proprietor.)
He asked me to explain the problem. Receiving the identical indolence from his clerk, he tried to mollify me. Unfortunately I refuse to be treated like this, departing without dining.

Our dinner was amazing- good flavor, options, & portion sizes, however, the dessert was not so good. We had the arroz con leche & platano maduro con queso. We were seated in the back room at a table that could sit a party of four, however, we came with a party of six. Our plates didn't even all fit. With a drink per person on the table, our plates were nearly half off the table. The customer service was good, but we could have used a few more rounds to ask if we needed more drinks. I like restaurants that are a bit dim, but this place took it to a whole new level. I could barely see what I was eating it was so dark in there. I had a headache all night because my eyes were trying really hard to focus. Next time I'll be sitting in the front!
The dim lighting made it very difficult to read the menu that was printed in red font on black paper, so we all had our phones out! We started with an appetizer of the beef empanadas, which were OK. But my entree was the highlight: I'd ordered the carne asada & it was absolutely delicious! Seasoned perfectly but there were some fatty, chewy parts on the end that I did have to spit out. Again, it's very dim in here. The ambiance is nice, the live music did not play the entire time though, which surprised me. My one "big" complaint would be the service, my friend had ordered his entree & checked with 3 different people. It took forever for his meal to arrive. There is no sense of urgency & I ran out of water a few times.
My friend and I dined early one Sunday evening. We know the Cafe is famous for it's grilled meats and seafood, but both of us did not want a heavy meal. We went anyway because we love the Margaritas. To our oh so pleasnt surprise, the kitchen was offering s Sunday soup special. We each ordered an empanada and a bowl of chicken soup. Both were to die for. There was so much soup, we each asked for a doggie bag. And yes, the Margaritas were wonderful. We will be back.
