Dine in style at Sabio Restaurant. This contemporary eatery serves artfully presented American dishes in upscale surrounds that feature exposed bricks, a full-service bar and a spacious courtyard patio. Award-winning chef Javier Lanza champions an international menu, which showcases seasonal specials such as quiche, turkey & brie, shrimp tempura salad, and verlasso salmon. Each dish is made to order, using fresh ingredients sourced from local farms and the Sabio's very own herb garden.
Sabio Restaurant is a nice choice for everything from casual lunches to formal dinner events. The restaurant's courtyard provides a nice stage for hanging out with friends and enjoying drinks. Sabio is open Monday to Sunday (brunch available over the weekend).
Hate to see this restaurant close. A bit pricey for lunch especially, but good food in a nice atmosphere. Hope to see them reopen in a new location.
I'm so sad to see Sabio going, but I'm glad I got to dine there one last time. I'm going to miss those green beans!
Great food and cocktails!
Came here for a combined birthday brunch with 5 friends. All thoroughly enjoyed the food and ambiance! Can't wait to come back!
Very happy to find this place. It was just what we were looking for - informal, bright and cheery yet great food, service, and tasteful decor.
The food was amazing it was a very quiet lunch
Had a fabulous dinner great food and service
We went to Sabio for a date night and it was pretty good overall. We had a reservation and they satus in the bar area (Detention). It's cool and still has a nice ambiance but I could have done without the televisions for a date night. We had the egg roll, the fried green tomato salad, the sirloin, and the shrimp and gnocchi. My husband rated his sirloin second only to the one he had at Ruth's Chris. The gnocchi was ok--not as soft at I've had fresh gnocchi before--and the shrimp served with it were cooked perfectly. The dish was too heavy itself (butter and Parmesan sauce was very buttery), as were all of the menu options. I would like to see them add a few lighter flavors to the menu especially with the season being summer. The egg roll was very good. The salad was ok--the breading on the tomatoes seemed a bit thick. Service was very good. We had a good amount of privacy for date night conversations and very much enjoyed our evening at Sabio.
This was my first visit to Lexington, and Sabio played a large part in giving me an extremely positive impression of the city. The food, service and ambiance were all stellar. The tortilla soup was one of the best I've had.
Sound dreading materials need to be added to this environment.
The food is amazing, but you can't have a conversation. More comfortable chairs would also be nice
The architecture of the dining room is interesting but it was VERY LOUD. There were 5 tables in our room and our server literally had to yell to tell us about the specials. The food was good but not great. Good wine. I never bothered to eat my leftovers. It's okay if someone else wants to go, but I wouldn't go back intentionally.
First time at Sabio and definitely won't be our last. Definitely try the shrimp gnocchi and the chocolate cup as a nice sweet ending. 5 stars for sure.
Great place for a special dinner, food was amazing.
I've had brunch and dinner at Sabios. The brunch was easily a 5-star experience. The dinner, however, was 3-stars, at best. The differences:
(1) Atmosphere: The brunch atmosphere was quieter (a table of 10 and we could all hear each other); Dinner was extremely loud (a table of 6 had to shout to carry on a conversation)
(2) Menu: The brunch menu was superior to the dinner. Steaks were average compared to others in town; the seafood was mediocre - nothing special; the brunch sandwiches and quiches were fabulous.
(3) Price: Brunch prices were very reasonable - about $8-$12 and, for the quality, very good and very worthwhile. Dinner prices were very high, considering the quality (seafood was a where from$24-$30 and steaks were $40); dinner is way overpriced.
(4) Service: At brunch, we received water and bread immediately after being seated. At dinner, it took 10 minutes to get water and 20 to get bread. At brunch, the meals were delivered in a timely manner. At dinner, my daughter's (ages 13 and 11) received their meals 20 minutes before everyone else. We did not ask why at the time as we assumed the rest were on their way out. Dinner service was very slow; it took us 2.5 hours to get out of the restaurant. I don't like to be rushed, but, even for me, that is entirely too long.
I would go back for brunch but will never do dinner at Sabios again.
We had a business dinner among friends on the patio outside and our dinner was flawless. As a hometown host, my colleagues from around the country loved the atmosphere, food, service and choices. Great for big groups and catching up with colleagues or friends.
We were in town for one night and found Sabio on Open Table. We enjoyed the restaurant very much. The food was great and we sat outside on the brick patio. The wine list is small, but interesting. A real find!
Sabio is a favorite of ours. The braised pork shank I had was absolutely delicious. My wife had the halibut special that was underdone for her but our waiter Austin took it back and cooked it to her liking. we dined on the patio which was very nice. all in all a wonderful experience.
Consistantly great and original entree choices. Never crowded.
loved it! beautiful day for brunch outdoors. service was impeccable. food delicious. will go back for another occasion.
My husband and I went to Sabio to try a new restaurant for a change. We were impressed from the moment we walked in the doors. Not only is it located in a cool old and renovated building called Dudley Square, the ambiance of this restaurant is excellent. We enjoyed the food, the environment and each other. The service was good also. We will visit Sabio again.
Received and seated immediately at reserved time. Seated inside since patio was full. Quiet setting. Our server was a little tardy throughout the evening due to busy patio and not so busy dining room. They could have used an additional server but it didn't ruin the evening. The food was excellent. Served warm and timely. Dessert was offered but not ordered. Very enjoyable and relaxing evening. Very satisfied.
Great meal overall, but I just struggle often with prices of such places. Hard to take spending $300 plus for dinner for 4, but I guess I am either out of touch or just cheap. Cheapest glass of red wine $9 from a bottle that cost maybe $15? Without some price sensitivity all economics falls apart. I understand overhead and ROI to a point but...
My wife and I love to try places we haven't been before and this one was a very good find! We both very much enjoyed our meal and the ambiance of the patio. Outstanding food and service!
The outdoor patio was really nice. It was a really hot evening and the trees and umbrellas provided total shade. The food was good. I recommend the Asian green bean appetizer.
First time at Sabio's; the food was as hoped for - Outstanding and Excellent! A perfect place for a romantic dinner or just a special night out.
The food was spectacular. We were seated in the same room as the bar, which was less than perfect but quite tolerable. The meal arrived somewhat leisurely but was well worth the occasional delay. Presentation and preparation were top shelf. The red fish special was exquisite, the duck and tuna entrees gourmet quality, not a bad meal for a party of seven on a Saturday night. Overall Excellent . Strongly recommend.
I love Sabio's! It's the right balance between fine dining and food that is appreciated by the average person. The food is great. The service is always excellent. The atmosphere is upscale, but comfortable, not stuffy. It's a great place to take customers and colleagues, although it can get a little loud.
Great experience! Attentive service and excellent food.
Our family was treated like we were at 5 star NYC restaurant. Food, wine and service was excellent and we were able to celebrate our daughter's graduation from UK with one last great night in Lexington. Thanks you Sabio staff and owners.
Delicious food, good service!
Great food and service though noisy due to old brick walls of the school. Lovely evening had by all. Would highly recommend!
Beautiful setting for a late dinner during KY Derby week! The staff was very attentive. The drinks were innovative. We had the Bourbon and Bubbles, it was scrumptious! Job well done, would definitely do it again.
We were having a VIP business dinner--I ordered hot tea, and a starter and entre. Neither showed up--he claimed I never ordered them!!!!! Impossible--my table was a witness. I had to rely on the hostess to get my meal--meanwhile everyone was eating. He was rude, stupid and not attentive in any way. I think the staff is under-trained and not enough staff.
Server distracted by another table. Waited for bread and drink refills constantly. Outdoor seating till fire went out and they had no more wood.
I was somewhat disappointed with the menu. The fish selection was limited as I don't like scallops. I elected to order a filet which was good but expensive.
This is a perfect place for casual but upscale dining. The location is very convenient for events at Rupp Arena and the Convention Center. With wonderful menu offerings, the food was delicious. Our server was attentive yet not intrusive. I will return to Sabio every time I have house guests.
I should explain that there was a little bit of a glitch. I brought an elderly guest who was visiting from the east coast. We had an early reservation before going to a concert at Rupp Arena. We decided to park on High Street about a block from the restaurant, closer to the arena. Since we approached on foot from the north, we had trouble finding the main entryway. After walking more than halfway around the building, we decided to enter through what may have been a delivery door.
We easily made our way to the Host's station and were promptly greeted. We were seated immediately at a nice table on a lovely garden terrace.
The old school building was transformed into a comfortable dining experience. Since we dined outdoors, we did not fully explore the interior. The descriptions from other reviews indicate that it is very, very nice.
We went to Sabio's for a date on a Sunday evening. We made our reservations through open table. Upon arrival we were greeted nicely we were taken immediately to a great table outside per our request. The outside atmosphere was delightful. The tree's kept the sun out of our eyes and kept the temperature very mild. The chairs were comfortable and the patio was very spacious yet intimate.
After hearing the specials, we decided to start with a bottle of the Moet and Chandon imperial champagne from France and the lemon infused calamari rings which were wonderful. The calamari had a nice spice to it and was cooked perfectly. The champagne was kept cold in a nice ice bucket on the table for our convenience.
A nice basket of bread and butter was brought to our table. As we finished the calamari, the used plates were taken from our table in a timely fashion. We waited a little bit to order our main course as we were very much enjoying the evening and atmosphere. Our server acknowledged our desire to take our time and was very thoughtful of that and was patient and not pushy. She went over the entree specials again for us. For the main course, my husband had the crispy duck breast with sweet potato and goat cheese puree with haricot vert and a juniper berry and port wine reduction. The presentation was very nicely done. He said the duck was cooked perfectly and it was very moist and tender. The side items were also very good and he said he would definitely order it again the next time we returned. I ordered the roasted carrot and crab salad. The salad was very light with avocado, jumbo lump crab meat, sunflower seeds, feta cheese and organic micro greens. The salad regularly comes with the champagne poppy-seed vinaigrette, but I asked for the blue cheese vinaigrette which was an excellent choice as it was absolutely delicious. Both entree's were absolutely fantastic.
Our server had only worked there a week but she was extremely knowledgeable. Our dinner was excellent.
I was visiting my daughter who is a student at UK. We wanted something special as we hadn't seen each other since January. It was a lovely evening and it was a treat to sit outside and enjoy the outdoor fireplace. We had the calamari to start and I enjoyed the scollops while she enjoyed the filet mignon. Both were cooked to perfection and were accompanied with delicious sides. A gem in Lexington and we will be sure to visit again. A definite place to go for a date night if your looking for a intimate al fresco dining experience! Thanks!
Fantastic meal and service.
We enjoy dining at Sabio's every time we're in Lexington. Whether it's dinner with friends or family, the menu, atmosphere, paired with great service combine to make a truly memorable dining experience.
