Sabatino's Ratings and Reviews
It pains me to make this review. I have been coming to Sabatino’s since the 1970’s. My wife and I come several times each year including for our wedding anniversary. I always order the clams posillipo (red sauce), and it has been exactly the same and exceptional every time over all these years. This last visit, the clams posillipo was clearly different and far from exceptional. I also ordered broccoli with garlic and butter, but not until I was home did I realize they never served the broccoli. I assume it was still on our bill. Finally, the restaurant knew we were celebrating our anniversary but, as they have always done in the past, a small desert with a candle was not brought to our table. On a positive note, the bookmaker's salad and garlic bread were excellent.
Terrible experience. A waitress dropped her armful of dirty plates and left over food and sauce went all over one of our guests. The waitress never apologized. The son of the owner finally came over and gave us a business card and said to send him the dry cleaners bill. No deduction off our check which was close to a $200 meal. Such an uncomfortable experience from a restaurant that lacks class. This was a birthday dinner that will forever be remembered for the wrong reasons.
We had been to Sabatino's in the past and, frankly, were disappointed in the quality of the food, as compared to past experiences. The salad dressing had a strange gritty quality; the minestrone was bland and mostly pasta with a few vegetables; the shrimp in the shrimp diabolo dish was tough; and the cannoli shells were hard. The veal francaise was very good.
Horrible! It was the worst Italian restaurant. The clams Casino and veal Francese were like chewing bubble gum. Don’t waste your money. Stay home, boil water for 10 minutes and pour canned tomato sauce and it will be better and cheaper. This is the McDonalds of Little Italy.
I Had My 1st Date There InJuly Of 1977 - I Go At Least 10 To 15 Times A Year...400 Times Total, For Me That Should Say It All. After The 1st Time I've Never Needed A Menu,I Always Order The Same Thing, And In 400 Times Everything Was Perfect EverTime!!!! & Every Person With Me Felt The Same!!! JUST AWSOME, I Would Say Keep It Up, But After 40 Years Of Perfection That Would Be An Insult. I Will Say Thanks For 40 Years Of Excellent Meals!!! Loved Every One Every Time.
As always, when you walk through the door at Sabs you are immediately family! Nonno welcomes you in and Nonna is in the kitchen making the sauce! When your entree arrives and you sink your fork into that fresh, luscious pasta you’ll think you’d walked into your grandmothers house. Eat! Enjoy! Stay awhile! And come back soon. As you walk out you’ll feel satisfied in belly and hugged in spirit.
Everything about this place is good - especially the food - except the atmosphere. Our table was stuck between an exposed supply area and a hallway full of very noisy refrigeration equipment. Putting the supplies and equipment out of sight and hearing would be a big improvement.
While we have always loved Sabatinos, I don't think we will be back. It is in great need of updates. The carpet, walls, and decor are worn and uninviting. The food was good, not great. The service is always friendly, but we were sat in the furthest corner of an empty room near the closet which made the experience even less inviting.
Was a decent place the food was fantastic. Nothing from an ambiance standpoint that is going to jump out at you and have you saying WOW. Simple with attentive wait staff and really good food. Seemed to be family run and appeared the wait staff had been there for years. I got the Chicken Lynn which was excellent exactly as described on the menu. My daughter got the gnocchi with Marinara. The gnocchi were light and pillowy and the Marinara had a great tart zip to it with chunks of tomato. I’ve gone to many of the restaurants in little Italy but will be going back to this one.
It felt like an old cafeteria. This was a family Christmas Eve dinner. The restaurant jammed so many tables in their outdated upstairs room that there was no ambience.
It was just loud and crowded. We literally had to pass plates down to each other, because there was no room for the waiter to move between the tables.
The food was mediocre. The staff was stretched too thin. There was no way they could provide great service.
The whole meal seemed rushed and the server was not cordial or personable. The four of us (wife, 2 teenage boys, and me) went there prior to going to a show, and expected a relaxed, good meal. For the most part, the food was prepared well - the lasagna a good sized portion and tasty, the fettucine alfredo sauce and noodles were fine, but the grilled chicken was bland, the chicken parmigan was not even with bringing home - the chicken breading was heavy, and the mozzeralla cheese looked more like plastic. Anyway, it was disappointing that a restaurant with such a good reputation could not deliver that night - the desserts were enjoyed by all, which, at least, had us leaving with a better outlook than the main meal.
I try to expose my grandson to authentic food and atmosphere (not chains). We were in Baltimore for a Naval Academy interview and went to Sabatino's for a very late lunch. He had never been to a "Little Italy." We stepped back in time, parked on the street and walked into a movie scene atmosphere. Yes, it a bit worn, but it didn't matter, it was comfortable. Our waitress was most helpful and the food was good. Before we let her know we were ordering off the lunch menu (very reasonable), she let me know that if I wasn't really hungry, I should order a half portion of pasta. Don't get that option much anymore. The garlic bread, both sides deserves its reputation. I would go back.
Came by to have a quick pasta dish for dinner. I like the ambiance of this restaurant, its like being in a family house having dinner, it seems very local and unpretentious. That said, I didn't think my pasta dish was anything to write home about, I got penne and vodka. Italian food is part of my background so I'm usually picky when I go out to eat Italian food. I'd say still give this place a shot, their more robust dishes might have more to offer.
Very quaint. Really liked our waiter. He tried to have the kitchen time the entrees didn't come out too close to our salads and apps. Very friendly atmosphere with an obvious family run business. Wasn't the best Italian food I ever had but it was good. Wasn't really an expensive tourist trap. Glad we gave our money to a family owned business. Would go back and try the homemade pasta next time.
