Service excellent. Have been coming to this location for about 10 years. Never disappointed. Food is always unique and appetizing. From presentation, service, ambiance. It is pricey but worth every penny. Can't wait for our return visit.

About the restaurant

Located in Portland's Old Port District, Fore Street opened in June, 1996. The interior surrounds a unique brick and soapstone hearth with a wood-burning oven, grill and turnspit; visible from most tables. We believe that good food travels the shortest possible distance between the farm and the table. Our menu changes every day and is founded upon the very best raw materials from a community of Maine farmers, fisherman, foragers and cheese makers. Most of the Maine foods are organically grown or harvested wild, each brought to us at the peak of its season. In 2002 and again in 2007, Fore Street was named by Gourmet Magazine as one of the Top Fifty Restaurants in the United States. In 2004, Chef-Partner Sam Hayward was named Best Chef: Northeast by the James Beard Foundation.

We had a great dinner at Hurricane last night ! Our server was a super friendly very experienced waitress with red hair and a smile to light up the room . Sorry I can’t remember her name . We sat in a booth plenty of room . We had oysters, duck pate, French onion soup . Brined pork chop and fried spicy tuna roll.

Absolutely wonderful experience. Food was delicious, service was perfect and setting was charming. It is pricey so not a nightly treat but worth it for a special night.

You cannot beat the ambiance and service. I was surprised the menu did not have more choices. I had a filet and i have never had a better one anywhere else. My beet & burrata salad was also very good. The cocktails were also excellent.

Created with skill and passion, the menu features an exciting array of seafood, streak, brunch foods, and signature items from our Executive Chef and his culinary team. This is within our historic gentlemen's social club, built-in 1907. Our spacious venue allows for individual experiences in various spaces, including our rooftop terrace. The Tarratine provides a variety of spirits, cocktails, local brews on tap, and an approachable wine list.

Parties of 12 - 18 guests will be offered a reduced restaurant menu.
Parties with 19+ guests, please call us at 207-992-4090, and someone will love to talk to you about your special night.
We allow you to bring in a cake from state-licensed bakeries; a $5 per person cutting fee will be added to the final bill.

Due to the historic nature of the building, our upper levels are not handicap accessible.

I have been a loyal seasonal patron of The Tarratine and just love the building and ambience, but I was a little disappointed with my main course on my last dinner. I ordered Halibut and it was prepared differently than my previous servings (last summer). I think the fish was over seasoned and on the dry side. The appetizer was very good, the bread excellent, and dessert delicious! I hope that this was just a fluke and I will definitely come back for another try.

The food and service were excellent. I cannot praise the chef enough. And as a person with celiac disease, I really appreciated all the gluten free options available. Thank you Tiller for a most wonderful meal!
