Great evening out. Great food, great venue and great experience. The only little thing that let it down was the cleanliness in the toilet.

About the restaurant
Small plates, steaks, Home made burgers & hand crafted stone baked Pizzas are just some of the things on offer prepared in-house by our Head Chef Jordan and his team using only locally sourced, fresh ingredients.
All our Wines and a chunk of our spirit range is brought to us by our friends at Portal, Dingwall & Norris based in Emsworth stocking & supplying only the best wines and spirits.
We're mad keen on Cocktails too! Our list isn't huge but it's carefully selected featuring Classic and Contemporary cocktails showcasing what we do. We're so passionate about it that we only use fresh fruits and we make all our own syrups, settling for nothing but perfection. Fresh passion fruits in our Passion fruit Martini's and fresh figs and dates in our Espresso Martini. We spend a lot of time squeezing lemons and limes too and dehydrating our own fruit !

About the restaurant
Shanghai 1814 is an exceptional destination restaurant in an iconic listed building in the heart of Southampton. You won’t have experienced anything quite like it. This is where East meets West in a cacophony of flavour, style, colour and vibrancy. Shanghai 1814 is so-called as the owner’s ancestors opened their first restaurant in Shanghai in 1814 – the time of the Qing Dynasty, China’s final imperial dynasty.

This combination of traditional European architecture with exuberant Chinese interior design is dynamic and exciting. Welcome to Shanghai 1814 and enjoy the ultimate dining experience.

Wow-factor interiors are decadent and glamorous, draped in dazzling chandeliers and adorned with cherry blossom. The menus feature contemporary Chinese dishes that are fresh and flavoursome, created by a Chef who previously worked at Michelin-starred Hakkasan in London’s Mayfair.

Excellent food, really good service, lovely looking restaurant. Went with my daughter for her birthday. At the end of our meal our waitress bought a slice of cake with happy birthday on it and sang to her. It was an unexpected surprise that really made my daughters night. (14) And mine. I've been here before with my partner and will definitely come again. Great place

A beautiful venue with equally beautiful food. Lovely attentive service without feeling rushed at all. I mentioned on the booking it was our anniversary and they congratulated us on arrival and also brought a little special pudding for us to share. The Taste of Autumn menu is excellent value. We will no doubt be back soon 🙂

Tapas / Small Plates
Rowland's Castle
About the restaurant
Food, like life, is best shared with friends and loved ones, and tapas are the embodiment of that.

The beauty of tapas is that you can share them so easily with friends and family. Eating from the same plate enhances conversations and brings us all closer together. Enjoying small plates of food with your drink means the proportion of food to alcohol is friendly!

Overall, the experience was good, but we felt a bit rushed toward the end of the night. The waitress asked twice if we were ready to pay the bill, even though we had just ordered another bottle of wine and wanted to enjoy it without feeling hurried. The food was okay but nothing special; the portions were very small, and the tuna was quite dry. When we mentioned this to the waitress, she didn’t offer a discount or suggest removing it from the bill. The bill was conveniently split three ways, but we weren’t asked if we wanted to see an itemised version, so we're not entirely sure what we paid for. The noise level was loud at first but calmed down after most people left around 10 pm.
