A great local friendly chef owner restaurant. The food was delicious, well cooked and tasty. Very friendly service though a little haphazard at times. In our opinion best british restaurant in Lymington.

Both my wife and I have lots of experience of Chinese food from working and living in the region.. The compass Rose food is the best I have tasted in the UK, including very expensive China Town retaurants. Highly recommend from that perspective, but even more so the restaurant has brought life to our corner of Portsmouth where most of the choices are bland chain pubs. They have made a dull building fun to be in and it's more than just a restaurant.. Live music, a bar and a chilled place to be with great hosts and staff

Shanghai 1814 was incredible, from beginning to end, everything was perfect. The interior, the service, the cocktails and food are just above and beyond. I'd recommend the salt & pepper soft shell crab for an appetiser and the spicy crispy prawns for main. The appetisers are quite big, you could probably share an appetiser between two people. We were celebrating my birthday, the waitress brought out a slab of cheesecake with a candle which was a lovely touch. I'd definitely recommend and return in a heartbeat.

We were well looked after despite arriving late - and having a time we needed to be away by as well. But service was efficient and well executed and me and my guests were very satisfied with the food - and we pretty much covered to waterfront in terms of type, from pizza to full prepared dishes.
