Seit seiner Eröffnung 1974 durch Ernst "Erno" Schmidt, hat sich nicht viel geändert.
Rotkarierte Tischdecken, Reihen von leer getrunkenen Weinflaschen mit berühmte Etiketten an den Wänden und mit dunklem Holz getäfelte Räume prägen das Ambiente seit den Anfangstagen.
Eric Huber übernahm, nach 10-jähriger Zusammenarbeit mit Frau Breuer-Schmidt als Sommelier, das Lokal 1995 und verpflichtete Valéry Mathis, der bei Haeberlin, Troisgros und Chibois lernte, als Küchenchef.
Seitdem ist die Küchenleistung ständig gestiegen, und wurde 1998 mit einem Michelin Stern geehrt.
Passend zur französisch-mediterranen Küche von Valéry Mathis, empfiehlt ihnen Eric Huber eine Flasche Wein aus der, über 600 Positionen führenden, Weinkarte.

First rate experience all around. Friendly, accommodating, comfortable, and with outstanding food. Value was excellent too except for a couple glasses of wine. But that the alcohol is expensive is pretty much to be expected. This is worth a layover visit if traveling through Frankfurt, which is what we did. Neighborhood setting is beautiful and perfect for a walk around the dining experience.

Mario Lohninger hat mit seinem neuen Lokal den Begriff des „Gasthauses“ neu belebt und zeitgemäß interpretiert. Rundum herrscht eine entspannte und ungezwungene Atmosphäre. Auch Gäste, die nur lediglich auf ein Glas Wein vorbeikommen möchten, sind herzlich willkommen. Die Karte bietet neben Klassikern wie dem Wiener Schnitzel, Backhendl & Zwiebelrostbraten auch Kärntner Schlutzkrapfen, Bergheufilet und Palatschinken. An die Zeiten der österreichisch-ungarischen Monarchie erinnern Ochsenbackerlgulasch und Kaiserschmarrn, außerdem gibt es fabelhafte Fischgerichte wie ein Black Cod oder geangelten Seewolf. Die Weinkarte zeichnet sich durch sorgfältig zusammengestellte Flaschenweine aus Österreich und Deutschland sowie ebenfalls auch einem gutes Dutzend offener Weine aus. In der zeit zwischen Mittag- und Abendessen dient das Lohninger mit einem Kaffeehauskonzept, von 14:00 bis 18:00 gibt es die Klassiker unter den Wiener Mehlspeisen, hausgemachten Kuchen & herzhafte Snacks.

Simple but good food. Locally sourced, beautifully presented and not too much “Schnick-Snack” as the Germans say. A large selection of prestigious vineyards that we want to share with our guests. We want to elevate our guests’ “joie de vivre”, let them explore the possibilites of wine pairing on their own and enjoy the guilty pleasures of comfort food along the way.

That’s what estela is all about. That is how our never ending love for food & wine gave birth to gastrothéque.

Very nice atmosphere, food is tasty. I found strange the limitation to stay up to 2 hours if you make a reservation before 20:00. I will definitely go there as well.
