The restaurant was extremely cold- the coldest I’ve ever felt inside a restaurant. Granted, it was very cold outside, but I would expect to be able to remove my winter coat while eating. We had to eat as quickly as possible because we were so uncomfortable. They were not trying to rectify the issue at all, and did not apologize for the temperature. Their delivery driver sat in the corner watching movies in a winter jacket, gloves, and winter hat! The rolls were rolled very loosely. Some were decent, one had a very bizarre combination of tastes. Overall, very disappointing. We will not be returning. Please get some space heaters or offer free Mizo soup when your customers appear miserably cold.
A local gem*! We dine here often with friends. BYOB nice. We bring sake or wine. Amazing food. Greattttttt friendly service. Casual
Relaxing. Try Godzilla role or veggie roll.
Just ok sushi. I've had much better and I've had worse. The fish just didn't seem super fresh. Probably wouldn't return. The service was friendly and the location was casual and low key.
I had OPENTABLE reservations for my best friend's 40th birthday for Saturday, 4.22.17. The restaurant did NOT hold a table for us, which meant our party of 8 at 8 p.m. had to find another restaurant to accommodate us (we stood in the doorway for 20 minutes while 2 people called around to different restaurants in the area). Needless to say, we had an unpleasant and uncomfortable time at S@kura, with the staff was NOT acting apologetic and they did not put forth any effort in trying to accommodate us. I would NOT recommend this restaurant. The event nearly ruined a milestone birthday and rare girls' night out! Silom 12 (BYOB Thai cuisine near Milwaukee and Oakley) saved the day and is highly recommended for their service and food!
Delicious food! One of the best sushi I've ever had!
Absolutely love their Mt Damāvand maki roll!
Went with a group of 5 friends. Everyone liked their food, but service was on the slow side. We never got 2 of our rolls, since it'd been about 30 minutes since the rest of our food arrived, we just gave up on those and asked for the check. It's a small restaurant and they were fairly busy at the time, but probably better if you don't have anywhere to be.
The food is surprisingly great- fresh, delicious and huge pieces of sushi for a very reasonable price. It is a small place and not much to look at but totally worth it for the food. The wait staff was courteous and efficient.
Went there for my birthday party and they were so accommodating for our party of 15. The food was amazing and so reasonably priced considering the size of the rolls. Would definitely go back.
Hidden gem in logan square. It's BYOB and the sushi is creative and delicious. Recommend for a romantic date or getting together with a small group of friends. Service is fantastic and welcoming.
The food was great! Service was excellent,
The restaurant was quiet for a Tuesday. We enjoyed the place to ourselves. Cozy little BYOB joint, we didn't leave hungry!
Nice that it has outdoor seating and is BYOB. But the sushi is, at best, fair. Don't get the special rolls, they're drowned in heavy sauce.
My birthday fell on a Tuesday and we needed something low-key and local. We brought a nice bottle of wine and thoroughly enjoyed the sushi (the specialty roll was HUGE!) and it was all beautifully plated. There was music playing but not much else in terms of noise level so it was a great meal and good conversation.
This is a small sushi/Japanese restaurant and was very enjoyable. The sushi was fresh and creative. The presentation and plate design was unique. The service was excellent. The style of the restaurant looks like most typical sushi places in Chicago but the food exceeded expectations. The signature maki is definitely better than a lot of other sushi places I have been to. I would highly recommend it and plan to go back.
Unexpectedly delicious! Specially rolls are really good - esp Wow and Fire Dragon
We chose this place because we could make a reservation and it was within walking distance of our apartment. We did not expect it to be such a wonderful gem! Our waitress was wonderful - very friendly, helpful, and attentive. The interior decor was perfect, and the food was absolutely amazing! We will definitely be back :)
The Sashimi and signature rolls were all outstanding, especially the Wow roll. We had no trouble getting a table on a Friday night at 7PM which was a bonus.
After recently moving to the neighborhood I made a reservation with my friends who traveled in from the suburbs. Upon pouring our BYO wine, a gnat landed in my friends glass. Gross.
Upon arrival of our first round of sushi - the same friend opened up her chopsticks and realized that they were moldy....MOLDY. I mean to the extent of coming off on her hands! Nasty
When we alerted our server that we wanted to cancel our order and close out the remainder of our sushi arrived. We indicated that we would pay for what we had already received but wanted to leave immediately.
Initially the manager stated that the sushi was already made and we would need to pay for it. When we reiterated the situation she brought our bill for what we had ordered, explained they had a new brand of chopsticks and they had all been removed from the tables. We paid our bill and hightailed it out to a "tried and true" sushi restaurant nearby.
Love how quiet this place is on a week night, plus how unpretentious as it doesn't runneth over with fake hipsters, unlike other places by the nearest movie theater! Perfect after-work spot to meet up, have a great meal (try everything!), before catching a movie. Don't know why we had never been here before, but this will be our go-to neighborhood spot for great sushi and prompt, friendly service!
Place is small and we were the only people there. The other 2 people that went in while we were there, went to order food to go. Wouldn't go back, but the food was very good so I would do pick-up.
The sushi rolls were really good. The one named Wow really lived up to its name. However, even though we were the only people in the restaurant, we had to repeatedly stand up and ask for things from the server, as they were not on the floor due to our presence being the only one. They were all very friendly.
Very good sushi, definitely recommend.
It's been my go to sushi spot for a while. Really good food, very reasonable, great staff and byob. Awesome!
Very slow and poor service. Lower than expectations of a sushi restaurant - granted we are more traditionalists and the fusion flare was not something we found beneficial. Dishes were heavy (oily, lots of mayonnaise) and a bit chaotic. I talked to a lady who loved he appetizer but our experience was not go great.
Love having this place in the neighborhood. You would drive right past, but it is worth a stop. Prices are half what the other sushi places are charging. The secret is out. While the dining room wasn't too crowded, there was a brisk pick-up business while I was there. And we all know that good sushi is fresh sushi and that means there needs to be turnover! BYOB lets me bring my bottle of proseco to have with my sushi! Couldn't be happier!
Customer service was very good with what I believe to be the lady manager or owner of the restaurant, but one of the servers seemed to have a little less knowledge but quick into finding someone that could help us. They were all very patient with us as I had to translate the menu to my little sister that was visiting from out of the country.
The food was pretty good, nice décor, but nothing much further than out of the ordinary. My best friend including myself love spicy food, and we thought that everything had something spicy in it, but it didn’t bother us. I’d probably only go back if I were in the area looking for a last minute sushi restaurant, but I wouldn’t go out of my way to bring anyone over.
It's worth noting that I've only been once, and would like to give them a second shot. However, my fist time was on Valentine's Day.
There were 17 seats crammed into this tiny restaurant - so tiny, there was only one sushi chef, one cook, 2 waiters, and the owner. In fact, despite having no real seats they were still letting people in. Including letting a person sit so close to me I could have leaned my head on his shoulder. Even though I complained ("Are you seriously going to seat him there? That's not even a seat!"), they still sat someone, although apologetically.
It took over an hour for us to get 3 rolls, although those rolls were delicious.
In short: Don't go at peak times and holidays. I hope they staff better in the fu
Most of the food was good. The desert was frozen and not very good at all. The ambiance was OK. It's a little quiet for a weekend night.
Food is always spot on.
The food was fabulous as usual. They have a great new summer menu with the addition of some more exotic sushi rolls. After a bit of apprehension, I tried a new roll with salmon and strawberries, it blew me away.
Took our newborn and it was great. The Special Maki list is very long. We will definitely go back!
Marvelous creative takes on sushi - the special rolls cross over into a world of flavors and textures.
The best sushi in Chicago. Hands down the freshest fish.
This restaurant is such a hidden gem on the edge of the Bucktown/Logan Square line. The sushi is amazing and they have some rolls that are out of the ordinary. This tiny little BYOB place is well worth the visit.
This is a small place but we had a blast. It is BYOB and the sushi is outstanding. The volcano roll was probably the best but we tried every sushi roll on special and each one was different and fantastic. Service was great and friendly. Highly recommend, would definitely be back.
The best sushi I've had so far in Chicago, hands down! You HAVE to go here and get the Fuji Volcano roll and the Godzilla roll. I'm drooling just typing this.
The food here is absolutely fantastic. The service is warm and friendly. I can't wait to go back again with more friends, love that it's byob!
Fantastic neighborhood byob sushi joint without any pretension. Great rolls, delicious chicken wings, and wonderful seasonal specials. Roasted garlic in the miso soup sends it right over the top!
Service was a bit slow, but the food was excellent again. Highly recommend S@kura for interesting sushi options in Logan Square.
