S@kura fusion japanese & Sushi Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
I had OPENTABLE reservations for my best friend's 40th birthday for Saturday, 4.22.17. The restaurant did NOT hold a table for us, which meant our party of 8 at 8 p.m. had to find another restaurant to accommodate us (we stood in the doorway for 20 minutes while 2 people called around to different restaurants in the area). Needless to say, we had an unpleasant and uncomfortable time at S@kura, with the staff was NOT acting apologetic and they did not put forth any effort in trying to accommodate us. I would NOT recommend this restaurant. The event nearly ruined a milestone birthday and rare girls' night out! Silom 12 (BYOB Thai cuisine near Milwaukee and Oakley) saved the day and is highly recommended for their service and food!
Went with a group of 5 friends. Everyone liked their food, but service was on the slow side. We never got 2 of our rolls, since it'd been about 30 minutes since the rest of our food arrived, we just gave up on those and asked for the check. It's a small restaurant and they were fairly busy at the time, but probably better if you don't have anywhere to be.
My birthday fell on a Tuesday and we needed something low-key and local. We brought a nice bottle of wine and thoroughly enjoyed the sushi (the specialty roll was HUGE!) and it was all beautifully plated. There was music playing but not much else in terms of noise level so it was a great meal and good conversation.
This is a small sushi/Japanese restaurant and was very enjoyable. The sushi was fresh and creative. The presentation and plate design was unique. The service was excellent. The style of the restaurant looks like most typical sushi places in Chicago but the food exceeded expectations. The signature maki is definitely better than a lot of other sushi places I have been to. I would highly recommend it and plan to go back.
We chose this place because we could make a reservation and it was within walking distance of our apartment. We did not expect it to be such a wonderful gem! Our waitress was wonderful - very friendly, helpful, and attentive. The interior decor was perfect, and the food was absolutely amazing! We will definitely be back :)
After recently moving to the neighborhood I made a reservation with my friends who traveled in from the suburbs. Upon pouring our BYO wine, a gnat landed in my friends glass. Gross.
Upon arrival of our first round of sushi - the same friend opened up her chopsticks and realized that they were moldy....MOLDY. I mean to the extent of coming off on her hands! Nasty
When we alerted our server that we wanted to cancel our order and close out the remainder of our sushi arrived. We indicated that we would pay for what we had already received but wanted to leave immediately.
Initially the manager stated that the sushi was already made and we would need to pay for it. When we reiterated the situation she brought our bill for what we had ordered, explained they had a new brand of chopsticks and they had all been removed from the tables. We paid our bill and hightailed it out to a "tried and true" sushi restaurant nearby.
Love how quiet this place is on a week night, plus how unpretentious as it doesn't runneth over with fake hipsters, unlike other places by the nearest movie theater! Perfect after-work spot to meet up, have a great meal (try everything!), before catching a movie. Don't know why we had never been here before, but this will be our go-to neighborhood spot for great sushi and prompt, friendly service!
The sushi rolls were really good. The one named Wow really lived up to its name. However, even though we were the only people in the restaurant, we had to repeatedly stand up and ask for things from the server, as they were not on the floor due to our presence being the only one. They were all very friendly.
Very slow and poor service. Lower than expectations of a sushi restaurant - granted we are more traditionalists and the fusion flare was not something we found beneficial. Dishes were heavy (oily, lots of mayonnaise) and a bit chaotic. I talked to a lady who loved he appetizer but our experience was not go great.
Love having this place in the neighborhood. You would drive right past, but it is worth a stop. Prices are half what the other sushi places are charging. The secret is out. While the dining room wasn't too crowded, there was a brisk pick-up business while I was there. And we all know that good sushi is fresh sushi and that means there needs to be turnover! BYOB lets me bring my bottle of proseco to have with my sushi! Couldn't be happier!
Customer service was very good with what I believe to be the lady manager or owner of the restaurant, but one of the servers seemed to have a little less knowledge but quick into finding someone that could help us. They were all very patient with us as I had to translate the menu to my little sister that was visiting from out of the country.
The food was pretty good, nice décor, but nothing much further than out of the ordinary. My best friend including myself love spicy food, and we thought that everything had something spicy in it, but it didn’t bother us. I’d probably only go back if I were in the area looking for a last minute sushi restaurant, but I wouldn’t go out of my way to bring anyone over.
It's worth noting that I've only been once, and would like to give them a second shot. However, my fist time was on Valentine's Day.
There were 17 seats crammed into this tiny restaurant - so tiny, there was only one sushi chef, one cook, 2 waiters, and the owner. In fact, despite having no real seats they were still letting people in. Including letting a person sit so close to me I could have leaned my head on his shoulder. Even though I complained ("Are you seriously going to seat him there? That's not even a seat!"), they still sat someone, although apologetically.
It took over an hour for us to get 3 rolls, although those rolls were delicious.
In short: Don't go at peak times and holidays. I hope they staff better in the fu
This is a small place but we had a blast. It is BYOB and the sushi is outstanding. The volcano roll was probably the best but we tried every sushi roll on special and each one was different and fantastic. Service was great and friendly. Highly recommend, would definitely be back.
