Have been to Rye three times in the last 6 months. The food is outstanding, the service has been great, and until this last visit the ambience was fine. However, it was so noisy due to a birthday party at a near table that the four of us could not talk to each other. We skipped desert and decided to have it at home.
Rye is one of our
"Go To" places -- food is always great, the staff looks after you...
Had a lovely time! The oysters were to die for!! Outstanding!
Great meal and service. Only downside was a table of 7 near us that was exceptionally noisy. Somehow we managed to hear our own conversations.
We had a great date night at Rye... atmosphere, service, and food delicious.
I had one of the most phenomenal meals - the Walleye with shiitakes and a root vegetable purée. Honestly one of the best meals I have ever had.
My partner and I had a great dining experience . I had the NY strip and he had the burger, both exceptional and cooked to perfection
Rye is a great restaurant - never been disappointed there. This time they mixed us a great set of local cocktails to start, then delivered a great charcuterie / cheese plate and a wonderful pasta dish that was perfect portion size for sharing for two. The service and attention to detail from the time we checked in with the host, through the bar drinks while we waited a few minutes or our table, through the end of our meal - top notch! An interesting and often updated menu with lots of delicious choices, great mixed drinks, and consistently excellent service make Rye a repeat visit favorite!
Such a cute place! Will definitely recommend to others!
Fun menu, AH-MAZING drinks and even better atmosphere!
Especially loved the roasted beets and carrots...generous portions and very delicious!
We found Rye on Open Table and were able to book a table with ease. The restaurant is in a great location, easy to park. The food was outstanding! We had a nice wine to complement our Walleye and Chicken dinners, both beautifully prepared and we savored every bite. The wait staff was very friendly and knowledgable. We will return and recommend this place to friends.
Small and quite! Great food and service was wonderful..except for the French press coffee ...it was pressed and served to us and was very very weak ...brown water. I questioned it but she said it’s exactly how they do it. So don’t order the coffee.
Great dinner and drinks.
First trip to Rye with friends who had visited previously. We will return. Our food was fabulous. My wife loved the brussel sprout side dish and her chicken. I thoroughly enjoyed the short ribs and gnocchi. The staff was attentive and knowledgeable with a good wine selection. A wonderful experience and would simply say if you haven't been to Rye, what are you waiting for?
Cute spot with good food. The polenta cake was a treat.
First time, I really do not like sitting 10inches from another couple, very uncomfortable.
Our waiter Hunt, did a great job, we enjoyed Lamb meatballs, the halibut and chicken.
Food was excellent.
We were amaaaaaaazed at how good the Rye experience was.
The food is nothing like you'll find anywhere else in Louisville (rolls - yum; mushroom toast - yum; steak - yum). And the drinks are the fairest priced anywhere.
We're including this in our dining rotation as a quarterly must-do!
Food was OK. It was very noisy although there were few tables seated. Very limited menu. Server seemed totally indifferent.
Great meal! Great time! Try it you’ll like it.
Too bad Open Table requires 50 characters. It discourages one from doing a review.
I love coming to Rye for special occasions with a group or for a date night. Always delicious options for vegetarian needs. The service is friendly, fun, and attentive!
Fantastic food, drinks, and ambiance. Highly recommend.
I love Rye. On my trips to Louisville I always attempt to visit. The steak was perfect and the Angel's Envy cocktails (as well as the other ones) were exceptional.
I'll be by again.
The service was fantastic we could not say enough to compliment all who waited on us. Team effort there! This was our first try at Rye, the menu select was not the best that day....for me; however drinks made well. Atmosphere is nice!
If you go to Rye, definitely go for the food. The food was as good or better than any of the "high end" restaurants in Louisville. We also really like the atmosphere. They could really become one of our favorite restaurants if they could just get the service right. Service would have been acceptable at a chain dine in restaurant. They were taking plates away when people were not finished with their food. They also started clearing the table when everyone was not finished eating. We had a party of 6 and I make it a habit to check to see if a tip is automatically added and this was one of those places who added a tip without pointing it out when they brought the bill. Could be one of the reasons that service was just average - they knew they were getting a 18% tip. We normally tip 20% anyone but this was one incident where we didn't add anything. We would still go back because they have a very interesting menu and food was outstanding.
The decor is beautiful and contemporary and I love the open kitchen. The music was a bit loud though--that said, they did play good music. The food was just ok. We started with an appetizer of their "Triple cooked" French fries which were clearly overcooked, as the name suggests (guess I should've picked up on that before ordering), and over salted. The roasted carrots were delicious but, again, one of them was charred beyond recognition. The rest of them, however, were cooked perfectly. The Roasted Parsnip Soup should've been called a "Cream Soup with Roasted Parsnip Puree" as it was VERY heavily creamed then topped with yogurt. My husband loved his Rigatoni Bolognese but it's a small portion--something like in between an appetizer size and an entree. Overall, very good.
Service was excellent, food was unique and incredible. Desert menu offered a tip the kitchen with a beer option. The staff appreciated the PBR and it was a great experience.
We ended up only having appetizers. The charcuterie plate and the stracciatella with grilled baguette. Both were very good. Pretty good beer selection.
The menu is very simple, which I normally find to be a good thing. But, the items are very similar and there's not a lot of diversity. One of the most appetizing items was sold out by 7:30. Two of the items, the meat dishes, were portioned for 2-3 people. I felt the experience was disappointing and will more than likely not return.
The charcutery and cheese plate was awesome. The people and service were exceptional too; lots of passion. I think they might be over thinking the uniqueness part a little to much.
We celebrated our daughters birthday! Food and drink amazing!
Fantastic bar and ambience. Great old fashions and nice selection of whiskeys. We had the charcuterie and cheese boards. One of the best I've had in the US. A few more small plates (pasta, fish) and it was a great dinner and experience.
The food was not good, what we ordered was not what was brought to the table. Salad was very small and did not have much too it. We left hungry and went to another restaurant to eat.
Very disappointed and embarrassed for the decision to bring the meeting here.
Loved the ambiance, food, cocktails, wine, and service. We didn't care for the music, but tuned it out with our conversation.
Rye was recommended to a friend who is gluten free. Unfortunately, the restaurant did not have a separate gluten free menu. There were some items indicated as gf by the server but we weren't completely sure (e.g., udon noodles are typically made from wheat and not rice and are therefore not gf). The service was fine but the portion sizes were absolutely lilliputian! My wife counted 8 pieces of rigatoni on the plate of one of our dinner companions. My udon serving was also minuscule. These would have been adequate serving sizes if this was advertised as a tapas style restaurant, but these were all entrees on the menu. We requested more dinner rolls (which were quite good), but they ran out (it was only 7:15!). Lastly, we had heard good things about their fries, but their fryer wasn't working that night! The food was tasty, but overall a disappointing dining experience.
Our server was attentive, the food delectable – my mom thoroughly enjoyed it for her birthday. My only suggestion is more comfortable dining chairs.
My first time at Rye. Surprisingly limited menu. However food was good and nicely prepared.
This is the place to go for a well made cocktail. Each one is well thought out and tasty. The seasonal salad of roasted peaches was delicious as were all the small plates. For an entree we decided to try the bronzino. It is one of three entrées at the bottom of the menu that are recommended for sharing. I don't know about the others( pork tenderloin and steak) but the fish we had was not big enough to share. We have had bronzino to share before and it was a much larger fish and was a generous portion. They need to work on this.
We had an excellent time. Had been to Rye for drinks, but never for dinner. The menu was paired down because we went during NULU Fest, but the oysters were fresh and delicious, and the the 40 oz ribeye was cooked perfectly and my wife and I enjoyed sharing it. Recommend
My partner and I went to Rye this past weekend during our holiday in Louisville. We were not disappointed. The food was exciting and every bite was better than the last. It wasn't the same old same old and the portions were just write. We shared the two boards then some small plates with accompanying cocktails. Everything was delicious. Our waiter was knowledgable about the food and bar (if a bit awkward). The only down side was that the food was so rich, there wasn't anything light on the dessert menu to counterbalance the main meal. We went elsewhere for dessert. We'll definitely be coming back for their ever-changing menu next time we're in town.
Loved the watermelon cucumber salad! The pasta entree was good, just not enough of it! Will be back!
Rye is a great mix of fantastic high end food with a casual atmosphere. My husband and I came for our anniversary. We had cocktails, the cheese plate, the ribeye to share, and dessert. Our bill was a couple hundred dollars with tip---but a lot of the cost was the ribeye. If you chose something else, it would not be bad for fine dining. The steak could serve 4 or more people.
