I love Rye. On my trips to Louisville I always attempt to visit. The steak was perfect and the Angel's Envy cocktails (as well as the other ones) were exceptional.

I'll be by again.

The service was fantastic we could not say enough to compliment all who waited on us. Team effort there! This was our first try at Rye, the menu select was not the best that day....for me; however drinks made well. Atmosphere is nice!

If you go to Rye, definitely go for the food. The food was as good or better than any of the "high end" restaurants in Louisville. We also really like the atmosphere. They could really become one of our favorite restaurants if they could just get the service right. Service would have been acceptable at a chain dine in restaurant. They were taking plates away when people were not finished with their food. They also started clearing the table when everyone was not finished eating. We had a party of 6 and I make it a habit to check to see if a tip is automatically added and this was one of those places who added a tip without pointing it out when they brought the bill. Could be one of the reasons that service was just average - they knew they were getting a 18% tip. We normally tip 20% anyone but this was one incident where we didn't add anything. We would still go back because they have a very interesting menu and food was outstanding.

The decor is beautiful and contemporary and I love the open kitchen. The music was a bit loud though--that said, they did play good music. The food was just ok. We started with an appetizer of their "Triple cooked" French fries which were clearly overcooked, as the name suggests (guess I should've picked up on that before ordering), and over salted. The roasted carrots were delicious but, again, one of them was charred beyond recognition. The rest of them, however, were cooked perfectly. The Roasted Parsnip Soup should've been called a "Cream Soup with Roasted Parsnip Puree" as it was VERY heavily creamed then topped with yogurt. My husband loved his Rigatoni Bolognese but it's a small portion--something like in between an appetizer size and an entree. Overall, very good.

We ended up only having appetizers. The charcuterie plate and the stracciatella with grilled baguette. Both were very good. Pretty good beer selection.

The menu is very simple, which I normally find to be a good thing. But, the items are very similar and there's not a lot of diversity. One of the most appetizing items was sold out by 7:30. Two of the items, the meat dishes, were portioned for 2-3 people. I felt the experience was disappointing and will more than likely not return.

The charcutery and cheese plate was awesome. The people and service were exceptional too; lots of passion. I think they might be over thinking the uniqueness part a little to much.

Fantastic bar and ambience. Great old fashions and nice selection of whiskeys. We had the charcuterie and cheese boards. One of the best I've had in the US. A few more small plates (pasta, fish) and it was a great dinner and experience.

The food was not good, what we ordered was not what was brought to the table. Salad was very small and did not have much too it. We left hungry and went to another restaurant to eat.
Very disappointed and embarrassed for the decision to bring the meeting here.

Rye was recommended to a friend who is gluten free. Unfortunately, the restaurant did not have a separate gluten free menu. There were some items indicated as gf by the server but we weren't completely sure (e.g., udon noodles are typically made from wheat and not rice and are therefore not gf). The service was fine but the portion sizes were absolutely lilliputian! My wife counted 8 pieces of rigatoni on the plate of one of our dinner companions. My udon serving was also minuscule. These would have been adequate serving sizes if this was advertised as a tapas style restaurant, but these were all entrees on the menu. We requested more dinner rolls (which were quite good), but they ran out (it was only 7:15!). Lastly, we had heard good things about their fries, but their fryer wasn't working that night! The food was tasty, but overall a disappointing dining experience.

This is the place to go for a well made cocktail. Each one is well thought out and tasty. The seasonal salad of roasted peaches was delicious as were all the small plates. For an entree we decided to try the bronzino. It is one of three entrées at the bottom of the menu that are recommended for sharing. I don't know about the others( pork tenderloin and steak) but the fish we had was not big enough to share. We have had bronzino to share before and it was a much larger fish and was a generous portion. They need to work on this.

We had an excellent time. Had been to Rye for drinks, but never for dinner. The menu was paired down because we went during NULU Fest, but the oysters were fresh and delicious, and the the 40 oz ribeye was cooked perfectly and my wife and I enjoyed sharing it. Recommend

My partner and I went to Rye this past weekend during our holiday in Louisville. We were not disappointed. The food was exciting and every bite was better than the last. It wasn't the same old same old and the portions were just write. We shared the two boards then some small plates with accompanying cocktails. Everything was delicious. Our waiter was knowledgable about the food and bar (if a bit awkward). The only down side was that the food was so rich, there wasn't anything light on the dessert menu to counterbalance the main meal. We went elsewhere for dessert. We'll definitely be coming back for their ever-changing menu next time we're in town.

Rye is a great mix of fantastic high end food with a casual atmosphere. My husband and I came for our anniversary. We had cocktails, the cheese plate, the ribeye to share, and dessert. Our bill was a couple hundred dollars with tip---but a lot of the cost was the ribeye. If you chose something else, it would not be bad for fine dining. The steak could serve 4 or more people.

I return to Rye frequently. The menu is predictable in outline but always changing and unusual and tasty. If I can't find anything that appeals to me greatly on the starters or small plates or main courses menu, I know I will be amazed by the ever-changing charcuterie board (this time it had country ham and other delicacies). There is a large beer list and the special, in-house cocktails change with the menu. This is food I would never make at home and could not, without great effort, find anywhere else (the table next to me had peach soup, I think), fresh, locally sourced (I think), and obviously a lot of thought and work goes into creating new recipes every day or every few days (I don't go often enough to know how often the menu changes: I have never been there and seen a menu repeated, however). I highly recommend Rye and hope it lasts for many, many years. The service was excellent, with many members of the staff taking care of us and asking if we needed anything. The place was a little loud (especially in the front room) and I, personally, had trouble hearing and understanding our soft-spoken server.

Not as characterized on Best Bars in America show. I consider myself a fairly fluent food coneaseaur but the menu was scattered and lacked theme.
The food was over priced and the main reason we went was for some outside fire pit action as seen in the show. Very disappointed to hear that the previous chef left for another gig.

Rye has a southern hipster vibe. It's welcoming and casual and from the beginning you can tell they aim to please. When you step into Rye the affable host greets you warmly. The host stand is in the front of a large street level window which floods the room with natural light. There's a decent size bar as well a handful of tables. We were led to a second rom - a more proper, though still casual, dining room. I prefer the bar area so we asked if we could move tables...no problem. It feels like nothing would be a problem at Rye. Start with the luscious local cheese plate and order more after finishing that...no problem. Split the thick tasty pork entee and a salad...no problem. Urgently ask for an order of fries after they arrive at the table next to us and look delish...no problem. I'd go back in a heartbeat....no question.

My husband and I visited Rye with an out-of-town guest soon after it first opened, and were underwhelmed. The food was good but the dining room was so loud we could barely hear our conversation. A very large womens' group was next to us, and their excited shrieking was enough to make us shudder whenever we have driven past in the years since.

I'm very glad I changed my mind and decided to try it again with a friend this past week. It was the outdoor dining that swayed me: I figured a patio could not possibly be that loud, and indeed, it wasn't. It was quiet and relaxing, and the food and drinks we ordered were excellent. It's decidedly casual -- not a special occasion restaurant, but for a typical night when no one wants to cook, as long as the weather permits, I recommend Rye's patio for nice ambiance and inventive, well-prepared food.

Of the 2-3 times I've eaten here, this was the first time the food disappointed. The Pineapple upside down dessert was awful. The carrots starter was excellent. We had four entrees at our table. One was excellent, two were OK, one wasn't very good. The portions are small and the prices are high. When the food is outstanding, as it had been in the past, those considerations are fine. When the food is off, those the considerations compound the experience.

I'll start with the atmosphere, simply because I have the least to say and I rated it lower (4 out of 5) than the other categories. It's very nice, simple, and clean. There's not much that really catches the eye or lures you in, but it's a good environment non-the-less.

We went at a non-peak time (6pm on Friday) so it wasn't even slightly busy yet. Due to this I expected, and received, very prompt and efficient service - even from those other than our server. Everyone seemed to help out at Rye, which made it very hospitable.

The food was the best part. If you even remotely call yourself a foodie, this is a perfect stop for you. This was only my first visit, but the menu apparently changes seasonally, if not more often. We ordered an arugula salad and Hawaiian Walu to share. The salad was surprisingly good. The mix of the heavier creamy dressing offset by the tartness of grapefruit, and the small crunch of sunflower seeds really hit the spot. The Walu was similarly well done. There were perfect grill marks on the outside and the fish itself was still tender. There were also some roasted potatoes, mussels, and fennel in the broth with the Walu. There wasn't a lot of spice with any of them, but with their preparation they didn't require any.

I would highly recommend Rye.

Had $50 gift certificate to try Rye but spent another $45. This was on a cheese tray, a couple of glasses of wine, and two small plates. We did not even have an entree. If we had had an entree, the bill would have been in the $130- $140 range. The portions, while ok, were not exceptionally large nor were the glasses of wine. Food was good and also the service, but did not feel that there was a value for the amount of money spent. So $95 for some wine, a cheese tray, and two salad/soup small plates seems excessive.

Our cocktails were good. Only 1-2 beers on tap but descent bottle/can selection. Service was polite and unobtrusive but slow - great if you want a very leisurely meal but you may want to be proactive about ordering your appetizers and entrees at the same time if you're very hungry and/or time restrained. Food was tasty and well prepared but prices were relatively high - so not a tremendous value. While it wasn't extremely loud, I think the acoustics are less than optimal. Desserts were good and French press coffee was well prepared.
