This place will be missed. The food was exceptional, moderately priced, and the service was outstanding. Also, the ability to bring one's own wine to an excellent restaurant is an uncommonl luxury.

Great value. Nice that it's BYOB but their (somewhat loose) restriction on 1 bottle of wine per couple is a little strange (we brought 3 half-bottles: champagne, Sancerre, Burgundy). Dishes were wonderfully tasty and inventive without being fussy or over-the-top.

Revisiting since they updated the place. They really did a nice job of taking such a small place and making it quaint. Our group of four felt the enjoyable platings were the quail main course and the corn bread and peach dessert, while the crab salad starter, bay scallops starter and shrimp with jicama main course were okay but we would not order again. The service was efficient and impersonal. We felt like we were being rushed through the courses. Our table would be engaged in a conversation and the main server would not even excuse herself and simply elbow her way in to put down something or wipe up the table.

Birthday celebration. Had the octopus, foie gras, cod and venison. Each one had inventive accompaniments and flavors. The "pre-fixe/order for the table" aspect might make this place not ideal for everyone but we LOVED every dish.

This is the classic, beautifully plated food, comfortable high end vibe. Several additional tastes offered which is a lovely welcomed extra from the Chef. A superb bread. Overall, I'd say courses were all very good - one or two close to truly excellent. Five courses are definitely filling. Seating is very cozy - so you'll be eavesdropped given the seating - which may deter some from going. Very friendly staff. And the BYO with $5 corkage is fantastic.

The food is amazing at this small, West Town gem. The service is impeccable as well. They are attentive, detailed and know what they are talking about. It is high end dining in a casual atmosphere. The offer two different tasting menus. It's not cheap, but worth the cost. More of an occasion place for me.

Aesthetically pleasing space, but the two-tops are nearly on top of one another - more of a bistro than upscale ambiance. Service was definitely attentive, but impersonal. Pacing was rushed; from being seated to paying our bill clocked in at just south of one hour. I liked the choose-your-own tasting menu approach (and the flexibility to opt for all savories if one desires) and overall portions were adequate, but sadly not only was the food subpar in ingredient quality and taste, but the meal was a very poor value. The scallop course consisted of approximately a half dozen tiny bay scallops with an off-putting, fishy taste. The venison (on top of an odd choice for summertime for the only non-poultry meat option among the larger plates) was dry, bland and akin to sirloin. Only the quail course was above average. At $170 per/couple (pre tax/tip and $5 per/bottle corkage) each course is essentially $35. While the quail was worth close to that; the pasta, scallop and octopus were essentially appetizer size, and maybe worth $15 to $18 a piece (with the aforementioned scallop course being poor quality to boot). The amuse, bread service and mignardises were underwhelming and did not add significant value. Sadly this was among my most least satisfactory meals in Chicago at this price-point. Kind of reminded me of what a small town USA restaurant trying to "play" at fine dining would produce; just not even remotely close to other similarly priced (or even less expensive) venues such as Boka, Elske, Sepia, Salero, Entente, Honeys, Blackbird, Fat Rice, Proxi etc. etc.

This was second experience here and love that you can now make reservations and also the remodel of interior. More city chic now. Food and service was excellent. We shared the 5 course tasting menu which gave us two first and second courses to share and two desserts. Several additional tastings were offered in between courses. We choose the wedge salad and scallops for first courses and both were so flavorful. Second course was the agnolotti which was a flavor burst and the venison. I have not had great vension in the pase, but this will change my mind. Explained it was farmed raised in New Zealand and wow, it melted in your mouth. Dessert was baklava, but Chef Kim doesn't do anything traditional. Refreshing and light. Wake up your taste buds, try new things , and explore a fun menu.

Wildly overrated and overpriced. The food is mostly average and the room is boring. Service was hit and miss. Two people sharing 5 courses and 2 desserts plus corkage was $260 with tax and tip. Quality does not come close to justifying the price. Would not return.

Although my first time at Ruxbin, I had been hearing great things for years. The interior is newly remodeled and very cute. It is a very small restaurant, but we felt special eating there despite it being early and not very crowded. The service was fantastic and attentive. The food was light and full of complex flavor mixtures presented in creative ways. It was a 5 course meal with a few surprise tastes in between (amuse bouche and palette cleanser). It is not a slow dining experience and we were finished in just over an hour which to me was perfect. Highly recommended to anyone willing to pay a small premium for a great dining experience.

The chef at Ruxbin can really cook. I had one of the most creative and delicious dinners I have had in Chicago. It's not inexpensive, $85 for a 5 course dinner per person (on a weekend $85, and the price is cheaper on select weekdays), but it is also a byob. This restaurant is about the food! The portions are small, but there are 5 courses and everything is fresh. The pate, fish and venison were the best I've ever had. I wish I could learn to replicate some of these dishes at home. The service is also excellent. This food is a combination of the local cuisines (Hispanic Polish, Italian, Korean) with classical French techniques. I also like that the restaurant is not large and located in a Chicago neighborhood.

Ruxbin has terrific food. It is well priced for a 5 course meal with good helpings. BYOB with minimal corkage is great for wine lovers. Food is wine friendly and delicious. It is still a little noisy, but not overwhelmingly so. Service is attentive, although 2 requests had to be repeated. Servers are knowledgeable. This is a very good place for a great meal.

We went to Ruxbin for my birthday, it was nice to find a place that is unpretentious, high quality foods and lots of attention to details with the presentation. The servers were very friendly and were happy to offer their insight to the menu, the food is served family style so you are sharing a meal with your table. I really like this concept, it makes the dining experience more cohesive. There are 5 courses so plenty of opportunity to explore different creations. It is perfectly portioned as well. I loved the fact that they use freshest of ingredients, inventive approach to favorites (thanks the chefs training in French and Asian cuisines), all served in this unique stoneware dishes - a very asian/zen touch.

Ruxbin did an amazing job of nailing each dish with service that was pleasantly present without being overbearing. The food is the focus- from the byob policy to the mussels skewered with toothpicks not placed on one of those dainty tiny bowl-spoons... Ruxbin is authentically great food in a great setting.
