Ruth's Chris Steak House - Wilmington, NC

Our waiter was not accommodating and didn't seem like we were to important. We ordered an appetizer and never recieved it. I don't know if the waiter didn't hear or just didn't want to hear. We are big tippers, but 15% is all he got. Nothing special with the food that we couldn't eat at any steakhouse. The $200 bill for 2 people was not worth it. We won't be back.
Met up with some old army buddies in Wilmington for Presidents’ Day weekend. We decided to come to Ruth’s Chris for steaks which was right inside the hotel. Service was very good and so was the food. They had run out of tomahawk steaks which was unfortunate but we still enjoyed our ribeyes. I’d definitely return.
Nice greetings. Our waitress seemed rushed and not very friendly. Maybe she was having a bad day. When we received the wrong salad we had to wait several minutes to tell her. The food was good, but for the price I’ve experienced better service at other Ruth Chris restaurants. First bar drinks were great, but the bartender didn’t know how to make an Old Fashion because what was delivered to us wasn’t an Old Fashion. We didn’t complain we just didn’t drink it. They called the day after thanking us for our visit but never asked how our visit was.
Fantastic service from Taylor and the team. This review in no way is a reflection of my server. She was excellent. I ordered the 11 oz filet, lyonnaise potatoes and a small salad. The filet was tasteless and tough. I’ve never experienced that at a Ruth’s Chris before so I thought “maybe it’s me.” I kept trying to eat the filet and then thought salt might help. It didn’t. Then adding steak sauce crossed me mind (something I NEVER do). I sent it back and asked them just to send me a 6 oz. since there was no way I could eat an entire 11 oz. The 6 oz. was just as tough. I understand sometimes things happen beyond the control of the staff but it’s all in how it’s handled. They handled it with discretion and kindness during the duration of my dinner so I fully expected the bill to reflect the level of quality of the steak but it did not. They removed $10 from the bill (the difference between the 11 oz. and 6 oz. pricing) even though I only ate a few bites of each steak. I paid it and moved on. And left a tip over 15%. I can say that a will not be back to this location (not because of the steak but because I was still expected to pay full price). Additionally, I read on Trip Advisor about the valet at The Ballast Hotel being a nightmare and I’m sad to report the reviews are true.
Food was sent back a few times..I believe due to the holiday the kitchen didn’t take their time
Customers service was above and beyond expectations!
The entire group of people I was with for dinner were extremely disappointed. We were escorted to an annex area of the hotel for dinner. It was a cold, loud and very generic. I actually think it was a conference room or similar. We had to ask for beverage refills and food belonging to another table was brought to our table. When I made reservations a month in advance, I should have been notified of the possibility of a alternate seating location. I would have cancelled.
The website listed specials that are not actually available at the Wilmington location.
Got the window requested but it was in the basement
At a window covered with a sun screen...terrible.
No elevator to the basement and one member of the party
Struggled with the steps. Waitress got the food orders mixed up and the check was mixed with another tables bill.
I’ve always wanted to try a Ruth’s Chris since hearing about it years ago. I have to admit I was disappointed on the place. Food was over priced for what I received. The food presentation was just average. I was there on Valentines Day, and noticed women were getting roses with the bills. After spending over $400’s you think the waitress would have brought us a rose. Nope, I had to ask for one when I left.
I am a regular at this restaurant but on this visit, we had a very bad experience. We were not placed as requested in the Main Dining room, they wanted to put us in a basement dining room. We ended up in the bar, with a bartender waiting on us. We waited for 20 minutes before the bartender came to our table and took our drink order, Drinks came 45 minutes later. The waiter was not attentive. Being a regular at this restaurant, I know what kind of service is usually given. It was very busy and the service was reflective of this. Very poor ambiance being in the bar and slow service. The food, as always was excellent, when we got it. I am so disappointed, especially since there was no attempt by management to make this experience right or even an apology.
Fabulous food as always. Filets served sizzling and sides done perfectly. Our server, Phillip, is outstanding. We have had the pleasure of him serving us on a previous visit and we will definitely ask for him again. Nice location overlooking the Cape Fear River. Would recommend this restaurant without hesitation.
We were seated right away and server was there to ask if we wanted water and said he would have bread out. Through out our dinner the service was great and the courses were spaced out. Even though they were super busy we were not rushed! The steaks and sides were excellent. It is very expensive so be prepared. Will go back for special occasion!
I highly recommend Ruth's Chris Steak House, Wilmington, NC because of the following (in this order),
1st is the service is second to none. We've eaten here often and every waiter/waitress has been A+.
2nd..the food is served hot and is always tasty.
3rd....the ambiance is quite comfortable with adequate table spacing, a great River View if you can get near the window and the room is usually chilled to comfy.
The only negative is the ala carte menu and pricing. I wish they had more special like they did on Valentine's Day. However, the specials are $$ as well.
Still, I recommend Ruth's Chris for an great dining experience.
We waited about 20 minutes to get water and first waiter. After that all was pretty good, except they obviously did not have enough staff to take care of the tables. We were not the only ones who waited a considerable time between courses and attentive service. For this price one would expect exceptional service. Unfortunately there are many better restaurants in Wilmington, but they do have one of the best steaks in town.
It was an amazing experience with an amazing view! We had a 5PM appointment and it was the best decision ever! Make sure you ask for a table by the windows; you definitely won’t regret it! The sunset in the background with the battleship! Definitely will be back for that experience! The ambiance was extremely lively that night. Wasn’t sure if we chose a bad day to go because of a convention occurring in the hotel or not but there was a ton of people on a Wednesday night. Other than that, our server was awesome and of course, the food was phenomenal!
This was a Pre-Valentine’s Day dinner, to beat the crowds, but it was busy, noisy, and difficult to hear each other when we arrived (a conference at the hotel I think). But that improved as some of the larger groups departed. The server was friendly and attentive without being bothersome and the main thing, the food, was excellent. Had the small 6 oz filet with grilled shrimp, loaded baked potato, creamed spinach, and sautéed veggies - with a glass of wine ( or two). Had to wedge-in the salted caramel cheesecake but made it fit. Very enjoyable evening which we will do again. The complementary valet parking was also a plus, so no worry about parking.
An awesome restaurant. Great food and drink. Super staff. They need to be well rewarded!!
Food was best I’ve ever had there. Steak was perfectly cooked. Waiter was nice but inexperienced. Poured my martini in friends cosmo glass. A little awkward. Nice enough guy. Corn and potatoes lionaise were spectacular. Want to go back.
Robert provided excellent service without hovering. Food prepared as requested and very good.
Everything was perfect from valet parking, service, and every last bite! Our cocktails were also excellent.
All was great.
Service was awesome! Food was ok, have had better at other locations.
Our waitress Hailey was wonderful! She was very attentive and courteous. I usually get the same thing when I visit any Ruth Chris location, so the food was delicious as expected.
Great restaurant to go to during Restaurant Week. Always great steaks on sizzling hot plates.
My husband and I treat ourselves to Ruth's Chris annually on our anniversary. They never disappoint. The steaks are the best quality you can find, top 2% in the country. Salads and a la carte sides are also phenomenal. We always request the same server, Philip, and he makes our evening that much better with his courteous service and great personality.
As always great food, cocktails and dessert with a stunning sunset.
Great service wonderful food prices are a little high
The service was great. Our waiter Philip, had very classy dining tricks and made sure our steaks were cooked to our liking.
The food was so good we went back twice in one week. Great place for a celebration.
The wait staff and bar tenders were totally overwhelmed. Took 45 minutes to get a drink and our table was not set. Was served soup and we have no napkins or silverware. Apologies at every table.
Great food and very attentive wait staff. Great view of the Cape Fear River and USS North Carolina. Worth the drive from St. James.
Great service and food as always!
The food and service were exceptional, I look forward to my next visit!
Food was amazing as always. The hostess seemed a bit bothered when we checked in. Our silverware has some dried food stuck to it. . . The meal was great as always. Perfect steak. My wine glass had a chip. For the amount you pay here you think they would stay on top the details. Wasn’t like this a few years ago. . . Our server was very nice.
Excellent evening celebrating a family birthday. Impeccable service and amazing food.
Enjoyed dinner here very much. While living in Northern VA for many years we were able to visit Ruth’s Chris quite often Now living in New Bern where we are not favored with one of your restaurants so it was a treat to be able to have dinner at Ruth’s Chris Wilmington
We made NYEve reservations two months in advance, for six people and when we arrived we were taken to their basement room. (Not pleasant). When questioned I was told that was where they were putting large parties. After speaking with Mgr. we were moved to the bar. My steak was very good but others were not happy with their meals. This was our second disappointment with this restaurant we will not return.
The receptionist was snooty and not welcoming. The service seemed rushed like the main objective was to turn tables and get us out. Good food mediocre service experience. Like Ruth Chris as a chain but would probably skip this one in the future.
Visited on New Year's Eve. Special menu options available. Seared Ahi Tuna appetizer was excellent. Was seated in a small back room with only 4 tables. Service was very good.
This place has the BEST steaks in Wilmington....just wish prices weren't so over-the-top, otherwise I would dine there probably once a week!
