Ruth's Chris Steak House - Westchester Ratings and Reviews
Having been to this restaurant many times and enjoyed it tremendously, this last experience was terribly disappointing. First off, the pavillion area where we usually sit was completely enclosed, as part of a redecoration, which gave the feeling of claustrophobia. You couldn't see out at all and it was very hot in that area. Secondly the service was not up to snuff. We were sitting 15 minutes before I asked one of the waiters if he was ours and he said he didn't know but started to take our drink order. 15 minutes later the drinks arrived. He then took our food order. That took 30 minutes. Our dessert and coffee took another 30 minutes. The manager was notified and she apologized and actually brought the coffee herself. The restaurant was not so crowded that it warranted this long and tedious service. Probably will not return and if we do, will not sit in that newly decorated closed in area. Whoever did that job should be drummed out of the decoration association. Poorly designed.
Had dinner at Ruth’s Chris on Tarry Town Road in NY with wife and son on Christmas Eve because it was relatively close to home.
Dinner was OK but definitely not what I would expect for a meal for three which cost $350 before tip of $70 for a total of $420 and consisted of 3 crab cake appetizers, one regular 11 oz. size filet mignon, one 12 oz. and one 16 oz. rib eye, three bake potatoes, one creamed spinach and 2 crème brulees and one cream fruit dessert along with 3 bottles of beer and one iced tea.
My wife and son liked their steaks but mine was full of fat and gristle. I suspect I had to discard about one third of my steak because it was not eatable. I couldn’t chew a big portion of it and do not eat 100% fat. All three baked potatoes were served just barley warm and definitely not hot as they should be.
The desserts were good and so was the creamed spinach.
The service was good.
However, I do not plan to go back to Ruth’s Chris Steak House any time soon because for that price I can have everything come out good, as it should, at other places.
New Year’s Day I plan to go to Wolfgang’s on Park Avenue in NYC as I usually do.
There is a World of difference between Wolfgang’s and Ruth’s Chris with Wolfgang’s being a
hands-down better meal all around. Prices are about the same.
This restaurant is losing it. Too many times now that we are going there and there are issues with the food compared to what we are used to from them. We were there for Xmas Eve and we ordered the Stuffed Mushrooms only to have them prepared with nothing but mushroom pieces and stuffing instead of the lump crab meat that is so delicious when they make it the way it is described on the menu. Then came my Petite Filet Mignon. I ordered it Medium and I got more rare than medium. I sent it back for a tad more cooking and they brought it back well. What a way to ruin a great cut of meat. I sent that back and not (5) seconds later they brought me back a steak, it was a loin steak and not petite filet Mignon. The texture was tough and chewy and did they really think that I wasn't going to know the difference? What an insult for them to bring me out the steak once they took the steak out of the oven and saw that it was well done and a whole other cut than what I asked for. They also have boarded up the gazebo and I say boarded up because that is what it feel like and look like. It is not at all attractive; quite horrible actually. We were very surprised to see what they did to the gazebo area. What a terrible idea. They have a picture of a fireplace on the wall. It looks better than closing up the gazebo. For the prices they charge they really have to start digging deep because they are falling way off their mark with what they are bringing out as food worth their prices. We are beginning to feel we need to look for another restaurant. We don't mind spending good money for good food but when we're spending good money and we're not getting anything for our money; that is a problem.
There is good news and bad news here accounting for our three star rating. The food was very good. Steaks were prepared as desired and the acorn squash soup was delicious. The barbecue shrimp, although not really barbecued, was also fine. However, the service was unacceptable. We were greeted by cranky hostesses at the front desk and marched to the farthest reaches of this very large restaurant to a table pre-decorated with Happy Birthday sparkles on the table. We were asked numerous times what the occasion was....there wasn't one! Our waiter was rude when asked where our main courses were after a 45 minute wait after our appetizers were done. He said "they will come out when they're ready"! After another 15 minutes, they still weren't. My salad was delivered to the table 10 minutes after the other appetizers with no apology. The wine we ordered was not found by our waiter. A very nice manager and a subsequent waiter tried their best, but this lack of service is shocking for a restaurant that charges big prices. Although the food was very good, this is not a comfortable and relaxing experience.
I met a friend there for a Holiday lunch on a Wednesday. The thing I was amazed about was that the place was 80% empty. With minor exceptions, this restaurant normally does not serve lunch. I'm guessing that the general public was not aware that they were opened for a couple of weeks in December. Otherwise, this restaurant is jam packed just about every night. I'm sure it would have been crowded if the public was made more aware of the opening.
Family tradition that we have Thanksgiving dinner at Ruth Chris in Tarrytown. This year the level of service was not at its usual level. 7:30 pm reservation, seated at 7:55 pm. Fine, but the staff's attention was lacking. Rather they seemed uninterested. The food was fine, nothing special but should say that their consistency for good food was retained. We will likely return but will modify our Thanksgiving dinner to either the day before or after so as minimize the impact of the holiday on staff service. Will compliment one staff who provided coffee during dinner and provided exceptional service. He seemed to value his role and the customer.
This was our eighth (8th) Thanksgiving at Ruth's Chris. I think we've reached the saturation point. Unfortunately, the food has slid in the last several years. Last year I said that I would try another Thanksgiving spot, but I obviously forgot. Filet's were okay, steak was good, salmon was fair. I was taken aback with the $10.50 for a baked potato, but so is life. Next year I think I'll try another venue. Last item I just forgot, I told them it was my birthday. They forgot. I'm disappointed.
It was very disappointing that it TOOK THE KITCHEN 4 TRIES TO GET OUT A HOT TURKEY PLATE . The plating of my meal was at a busboy level. Unwiped plates, food just scooped on the plate, and ladeled gravy slop on top. The sides were cold and sent back as well. Its restaurant 101... hot food. I may reconsider going to Benjamins, Morton's, or BLT next time. You are not the only steakhouse in the area. The old manager did a much better job. I feel like you sacrificed QUALITY AND STANDARDS for the busy day... but is that the right move here? Your website states "the best meals are the ones you dont worry about", well that missed the bar completely. When your holiday meal gets ruined, do you ruin a customer for life? Lets be thankful for the wine.
Ruth Chris is hit or miss we started out with our Martinis not being filled up and then the server got an attitude. The appetizer was good but the New York strip was not very good. Overall this restaurant is hit or miss and for the price you pay there is no way you should have a sub par meal. Get you Sh@t together your customers deserve better.
