Ruth's Chris Steak House - Walnut Creek Ratings and Reviews
Feb. 18, 2018 Valentine's Anniversary Dinner: Aaron (Frederick) made our first time dining experience at Ruth's Chris Steakhouse-Walnut Creek perfect from start to finish. A Server's demeanor can really make or break the quality of a special occasion, and he definitely made it! The assisting wait-staff were on cue. Our cocktails and meals were delectable. My Two-Star rating for Ambiance and Value: The room we were seated in felt and smelled like it was an overflow room; meaning the partition wall and the dusty odor (from carpet?) were not pleasing. We were squashed into a corner. I pulled table away from corner wall to beat the claustrophobic vibe. Thankfully, I faced the half-frosted window with sky and parking structure view, and my spouse appreciated the corner coziness. I would need to tour the venue layout before returning for a special or business meeting occasion. The $10.00 Valet Service upon arrival was attentive. The Valet Attendant after our meal, had misplaced our ticket, after my spouse had given it to him 15 mins. prior, and we were still waiting after the crowd dissipated. Long time to wait in an evening temperature of 38º. Overall, a memorable evening!
Another good meal at Ruth Chris, the steaks were not as tender as I remember though. The steaks were cooked perfectly, just a little on the chewy side but good flavor. The service was amazing as always and I feel my boyfriend felt quite special for his birthday. There was a crying baby behind us and that made it quite loud at times. Overall, I feel it was a good, but not great experience.
We had a great experience. Aaron was our waiter and he was really good. He struck a good balance between being attentive and not hovering. We started with the harvest salad which had lots of flavor treats like the Cajun pecans. Then we had the tomahawk steak with shoestring fries and the fresh corn with jalapeños. They explained the various cuts of meat in the tomahawk steak when they served it. We ordered medium rare and it was perfect. It was so good. And they wrapped up the bone for us and I haven’t seen our lab so happy in some time. The thing that seems trivial but actually made a huge difference was they bring you a plate that is heated to over 500 degrees. So as you eat your steak it stays hot but still medium rare in the middle. We had the chocolate duo for desert and it was the perfect finish. We will definitely be back!!
Ruth's Chris is a steakhouse chain with a certain reputation that makes you expect certain things to happen on a visit. this location was much better when it first opened many years ago.
Our food prep was not up to par. We both had fillets that were perfectly cooked charred rare, but did not arrive in the bubbling herb butter Ruth's is noted for. The lobster mac and cheese was only okay, but over cooked and a bit dried out. The crab stack wasn't in a stack at all and was made with smaller pieces of lump crab than is usual at a Ruth's Chris and had red peppers and mango (huh?). The room itself was tired and over packed. Our server team was great, but the service itself was slow.
We won't be going back I guess. I am sure there are better steak house options in Walnut Creek, we just haven't tried any others.
The service at Ruth's Chris Steakhouse in Walnut Creek was impeccable from the the hostess that sat us, our waitress, and our food server. It was the first time that we were seated in the SMC room and the view was great. The SMC room is quiet and great for a romantic evening. We were celebrating my husband's birthday with best friends (4 total) and we felt that we were a bit raucous compared to the other diners in the room. If you want more of a fun ambiance, sit in the bar or along the wall on the outside. I love how this restaurant has different locations for a different ambiance.
The food was delicious as always, but on this particular night, for whatever reason, my filet was overdone when I asked for medium rare. Our waitress fixed it right away and the kitchen was great at getting me another filet but because I had to wait for awhile I lost my appetite. Otherwise, the food was great as you would expect from Ruth's Chris. Definitely pricey but worth it for special occasions or date night. I would recommend this location and make sure you let the hostess know what type of ambiance you want so that you can get the right table in the right location.
Ruth’s will probably have one more chance to wow us before we give this restaurant up completely.
We arrived for our reserved time and were escorted to our table. Someone promptly poured water and placed bread on the table.
We finished our bread and half the water. The manager, Chris, and various servers walked by. Not one had shown any interest in serving us. Chris never asked if we had been served. He simply walked by without eye contact.
After 10+ minutes the person with bread asked us if wanted more. We responded, No, we would like to have a cocktail and place our order. Aaron rushed over apologetically and did all he could to remedy our having been ignored for so long. Aaron was very good, unfortunately the damage had been done. Chris, the manage should be fired for allowing a table to be ignored for so long, especially since he walked by us twice. He is obviously not customer oriented.
Next, we were dressed nicely, suits ties, cuff links and shined shoes. We were surrounded by individuals dressed in tee shirts, jeans, hoodies, dressed like they were going to do yard work. Sorry, if I’m going to spend well over $100.00 for a meal, I don’t want to feel like I’m in McDonalds. We were appalled at how people were dressed at this restaurant. I know standards in our society have dropped significantly, but we don’t see such disregard to a dress code at Scott’s just a few blocks away.
Bottom line, shame on Ruth’s Chris. Customers deserve better!
The crab stuffed mushrooms and filet really never disappoint. But this time was not our favorite.
Service was very slow, our order was put in wrong and my second cocktail (of the same kind) did not taste like the first.
Oh well, in the grand scheme, not a horrible experience. But now fantastic either for $260.
We were at Ruth Chris for my birthday on Sunday and while the food was better than average the service was terrible. Usually when we go to RC the food and service is great and while expensive it is still worth it. This time was very disappointing and I think my family and I will now go to Forbes Mill in Danville rather than RC. Yes, the service and experience was that bad.
The food is as good as it gets. Steaks, salads, sides (potato's) . Dessert are very good but not quite up to the food. Service is handled by a team an is first rate from start to finish. Very elegant feel. It will become a special occasion eatery for us.
It has been a while since visiting Ruth Chris. First visit though to the Walnut Creek CA location. Great experience. Started off with the mouth watering sizzling Blue crab cakes. Followed by the lettuce wedge salad. Entree was the chef special celebration surf and turf, accompanied by the au gratin potatoes and Brussel sprouts. The two lobster tails and filet mignon were cooked to perfection. Well done Ruth’s Chris!
We ve been coming to the Walnut Creek location for years, and have always had a great experience. Unfortunately, 2018 started with an unpleasant experience. My soup was very cold, we ordered a bottle of Caymus. After letting the wine breath for a while we were forced to pour our own glasses. The Filet was average, service was inconsistent, and the noise level was beyond acceptable.
Maybe this was just a New Years hangover.
Had a reservation for two for a birthday dinner. Got seated quickly. Hostess was ok didn’t seem that friendly. I was losing my voice so I couldn’t really speak but our Server and food runners were really nice and accommodating. Manager Chris came by and was greeting everyone in the restaurant as well.
Ordered lobster Mac and cheese. 2/5
16 oz ribeye medium rare 5/5
Fillet mignon medium rare and lobster tail 3/5
We had this sort of yam crumble dish for dessert which was delicious 5/5
Overall the experience was nice as always. Halfway through I was getting super full but the ribeye and yam dessert was so good I had to finish every last bite.
We go to Ruth’s Chris Steak House every year to celebrate a birthday with the fabulous steaks; and have always had a great experience. This year wasn’t as great. The service was slower than I expected, maybe because we came on New Year’s Day. My cowboy rib-eye ( what I always want ) had a tendon that I couldn’t cut with my knife. It was a good dinner; just not as special as previous years.
Just celebrating our after Christmas, Christmas family dinner. Ruth Chris was excellent, as usual. Tess, our server, was great! We never had an empty glass of water. She’s an asset to Ruth Chris! She was not only knowledgeable, but very personable. We like that!
Expensive for what you get. Count on $100 per person without drinks. Nothing creative about the menu but good comfort food. Was a monumental birthday and retirement. Did not even waive the corkage fee or even comp dessert for the birthday person. They did nothing to make the occasion feel special
Dinner was fabulous. We enjoy this restaurant, ambiance and the social scene. The restaurant can provide that very cozy and or group large party setting. I do feel that when visiting an establishment of this caliber that SERVICE should be Exceptional. Our service was Good. Yes they appeared to be busy however regardless of busy or not Servers should always remain very attentive.
