Ruth's Chris Steak House - Wailea Ratings and Reviews
Excellent early bird venue before our reason for being on Maui from the outer isles to see Howie Mandel's only show in Hawaii for New Year's weekend 2017. We stayed in Kihei and couldn't have made a better choice for early dinner before the show, despite the multiple options for fine eateries in the area. The service and flavor was impeccable!
NY strip steak and mahi mahi, calamari and creamed spinach were all great. It was probably the best meal of our vacation. Service was very attentive in a polished, understated manner. Setting is the nicest Ruth Chris steakhouse I've seen. It is also easy walking distance from the Marriott Wailea Beach Resort next door.
Thought about not being too critical, but then what's the point of a review if not honest. We've lived part-time in Wailea since 2011. After all these years, this was our first time at the Wailea RC. The reason is prefer to eat lighter with fresher ingredients. That said, I have eaten at Ruth's Chris restaurants on business trips and know what we were getting into. We just thought we'd try something new on island. Big fan of Tommy Bahama restaurant by the way.
Now a bit on the food. Nothing special at all. I recently in CA had some barbecue grass fed steaks. Comparing the two. I would say that RC steak had a taste and texture as if it had been frozen a long time. Which I'm sure it would have to be to get to the island. Unfortunately, that messes with the texture and it certainly isn't worth the cost to get previously well frozen and thawed meat. Better than Safeway, but not by leaps and bounds per the price.
As far as everything else. Butter! Everything is immersed in butter. I'm afraid this is a broken record. But, if you want great fresh food you buy at Mana Market and dinner out is only at Mama's. Lunch spots are a plenty. Cool Cat, Tommy's Bahamas, IHOP, McDonalds after surfing. I know funny uh, and kind of gross, but my son digs it after being on the water.
The service and food was excellent and great, respectively. I think our server's name was Steven and he was very pleasant, professional and efficient. Unfortunately we dined on Christmas day and apparently the restaurant under estimated how long folks linger at dinner during a holiday vs every day dining. We were seated about 900pm instead of our 815pm reservation and between the waiting and the stress of disappointed guests waiting with us the dinner wasn't as relaxing and enjoyable as it could have been.
We had Christmas dinner here and it was excellent. This is a solid restaurant and you know exactly what you are getting. All of our steaks were perfectly cooked. We had a small seafood tower for an appetizer and it was plenty for 4 of us. We split one dessert and it was the right choice, mile high pie was huge. Love the dinner.
Disappointed! We had reservations for 2+ months and when we arrived at our table for four we were seated in the worst location. To be put in the first table at the entrance, with aisles on both sides of the table. We asked to be moved, and we were after a few minutes. The food was ok, but very expensive and not that special. We won’t be going back.
Jared, our server, was friendly and attentive and he immediately made us feel right at home. Our food was prepared exactly as we had requested and was served promptly. The occasion was my wife’s birthday and Jared and his team saw to our every need and did not disappoint.
I'm not sure if this is just a location based problem with Ruth's Chris or not, but it did not meet my expectations of what I've been told about this place. We go to the Chop House at home in Grand Rapids often and have never had anything but perfection there. The service was fairly slow, we waited on drinks several times and decided against dessert after waiting over 5 minutes to get our server to come after we finished eating. The food was good, but nothing exceptional. Prices seemed to be all over the place too, but that could just be Hawaii. I plan on visiting the Ruth's Chris in Grand Rapids soon to check it out and see if it was just this location or if I'm just not a big fan of it.
Our dining experience was first class. We were seated promptly and our waiter was very attentive. The steaks we ordered were perfectly seasoned and cooked exactly right. These steaks were the best we've had in years. We look forward to dining here again. Thanks.
We went here for the a Thanksgiving Dinner. So this review might not reflect the normal quality of this place.
We got their 3-course Thanksgiving menu. The starter was a good chowder. It was a bit slow until we got the starter, and we even waited quite a while for our first drinks (2 average cocktails).
The main turkey course, was a massive portion of turkey and sides, but the turkey was cold/lukewarm and pretty boring. Only one great thing was a sausage stuffing that tasted rich and flavorful.
Service was friendly and helpful. There was a bit cold-draft from the air-conditioning.
All in all I expected more of this place, and I hope their stakes leave a better impression than this thanksgiving dinner.
This was Thanksgiving dinner for us on vacation. I have been to many Ruth’s Chris Steakhouses across the US. I have to say this may be one of the best when it comes to food preparation. Steak temps were perfect and the sides superb. Even though it was a busy night the waiters were on top of everything.
Just a note that prices are higher at this location due to being in Hawaii.
After eating fish for 8 straight days, we wanted a good steak and decided to try Ruth Chris for Wailea restaurant week. It was also our 25th anniversary week so wanted to celebrate there and they were very welcoming with a free glass of champagne and a free dessert ( flaming chocolate strawberries). But it went downhill from there. First off, they seated us in the back room with families with kids and no view instead of the front vibrant room which was offputting. The steak was not that tender for $50+ and the mashed potatoes were runny. Our server Jared was fabulous and the service was amazing. Would probably try another restaurant for beef as opposed to this chain .
Went for dinner during Restaurant Week in Wailea so it was 3 courses, price fixed. The appetizer course was not special- green salad or Caesar salad - and dessert choices of sorbet or ice cream or bread pudding - just not special. But the entrees made up for it. My husband had the petite filet and, as always, Ruth’s Chris meats are superb. I had the mahi-mahi which was the best I’ve ever had. Service was top notch. So, overall, it was a terrific evening.
