Ruth's Chris Steak House - South Barrington Ratings and Reviews
This was a disappointing experience. Our family had dinner here and looked forward to a great meal to wind up our week. 3 of the 4 of us ordered steaks plus the seafood tower plus side dishes. I am vegan, so I asked for a recommendation. I am also the only woman in our family. Our waiter was dismissive of me and rude throughout the meal to the degree that both of my teenaged sons as well as my husband noticed and were irritated by him. Our bill was almost $500 for the 4 of us, so my vegan pasta dish did not disadvantage him until his awful attitude influenced his tip. The food was good, not great, and the decor is outdated and tacky. Take a pass for the $$$$.
Our table was along a busy isle as one enters the dining room making for a less intimate setting. There were other open tables farther into the dining room. My salad was removed, while I was reviewing the menu with my waitress, before I was finished. I had to be given another one that the lettuce was pale. My wife also felt her head of lettuce was not good in her wedge salad. Our waitress was very nice and helpful.
Food was great as to be expected from Ruth’s Chris. It was Chicago Restaurant Week so we went out for their $44 special. The filet tasted absolutely wonderful, cooked perfect to order, and melted in your mouth. The rest of the food was great was well.
Service from Stacey was awesome and she made the dining experience fun with the way she interacts with you. She was also on top of our needs before we had to ask for anything.
Would definitely come back anytime!
One is pampered from the time you walk in the door until you leave Steaks were extremely tender and tasty. The sweet potatoes are one of our favorite dishes anywhere. It contains the right balance of brown sugar to enhance the taste. Ruth Chris should be on everyones bucket to visit.
Always a pleasure coming to Ruth's Chris for dinner. My husband and I celebrate Chicago Restaurant week every year here, and we are happy that it's become our annual tradition. We've been to several steakhouses, and Ruth's Chris hands down has the best steaks!
The complimentary valet attendants were very kind. We were seated quickly thanks to our 6:30 reservation and we had a great booth and a terrific server. The filets were very good as well. However the value just isn't there for me. No alcohol or dessert and it ran close to $100 per person with sides and an appetizer. We probably won't be back unfortunately, unless someone else is buying!
Martina provided excellent customer service. The filet and shrimp were great, as were the creamed spinach and sweet potatoes. The ribeye was loaded with fat and had to be sent back. The second one the manager brought was very good. The key lime pie was not fresh and had a rubbery consistency. Not sure what is happening at this restaurant. Normally very good.
Our reservations were for 6:45 and we arrived at 6:43 we were seated at 7:00 after my husband asked why we were still not seated. Our waitress came to the table asked about drinks and my husband said we can give her both the drink & dinner order she replied she needed to come back for the food order. She did took our order and never came back to the table with any food until my husband asked someone to get our waitress. She came back acknowledged it had been a long time & said it was because there was a large group that they were serving. It made you feel like your not important. If it wasn’t for the quality of food we would never come back.
This is our 3rd time to Ruth Chris's for Restaurant week (which is an affordable way to dine there). We had disappointing service this time though - they were quite busy and just couldn't get our order right. Instead of my salad - they brought me the shrimp appetizer (and I'm allergic) - and then they mixed up my husband's filet with mine (though it was good and we didn't realize the problem for a little bit ourselves).
We were a little disappointed about the 'no substitutions' thing for the Restaurant Week menu....I would have rather had another vegetable vs getting 2 desserts...but it was all good otherwise.
It hurts me to write this review. Have been to this Ruth Chris several times and others throughout the country. It has always been my favorite steak house and I have given favorable 5 star reviews many times. Not this time! This was my choice for my birthday dinner as usual but we were totally disappointed this time. I knew it was always a tad pricey but never cared. It appeared the prices went up since our last visit. Now for $120 you can get 2 11 oz filets..& that’s it. If you want salad & baked potato it’s another $20. I still didn’t care until our steaks arrived. Not the usual round filet but a strange shaped piece of meat that tasted like it was over tenderized, stringy & mushy. Nothing like any filet we ever had there before. The wait staff was excellent as usual and brought us a nice complimentary desert for my birthday. Unfortunately it did not make up for the steaks. I normally would have complained & know they would have done right by us but didn’t bother. Doubt we will return to this location, hate to say it. This is not the Ruth’s Chris we have known & loved.
