Ruth's Chris Steak House - Sarasota Ratings and Reviews
Fire alarm rang for more than 10 minutes. Families left. No one from management bothered to announce the reason for the alarm and apologize. Our server did the best he could to wait tables and he apologized. There should have been an appearance from management with a complementary drink for not leaving....
Had a 40 minute wait beyond my reservation time. True it was Christmas night, and management did provide us with a nice bottle of wine for the long wait. Food was very good, but they also ran out of dessert. Very crowded. They did give us ice cream and fruit in a cream sauce to take the place of the prix fixe planned dessert. In light of the big crowd on a very busy night, our waiter Mark was very nice, and the dinner was good.
WE made reservations for Christmas dinner at 6:15 3 weeks in advance. When we arrived we were going to have at least a 30 minute wait, but found a table in the bar, a high top. Took the table and waited for water for 15 minutes, waited for drink order for another 20 minutes, and waited for napkins until we fimally had to ask again for them. Filet (11 oz) was full of fat, french fries cold, returned them and got them reheated and over cooked. Waiter told us manager had taken 800 reservations for that day. A high end restaurant should not do business like that. That is pure greed. We will not go back. Have spoken to several of my friends about it, and all have said they had bad experiences at the Sarasota RC, so I guess, they just don't have it managed properly.
I appreciate that the restaurant has the Classics Menu that includes salad (or soup), entree, and dessert for a reasonable price. I have always liked Ruth's Chris for special occassions. Christmas Day was our first visit in Sarasota, and we liked the ambiance and sophistication. The service was really excellent.
All of our steaks were seriously undercooked. Everyone had to send their steaks back.
While the staff easily took back the steaks and apologized for the error and delay, unfortunately it rushed the rest of the meal since some of the group had to leave by a set time. I was surprised that so many steaks were undercooked.
We love happy hour at Ruth's Chris and opted for a regular meal one evening. We knew the prices are steep, but they have introduced a price-fixed dinner which is more reasonable. The rib eye steak I had was so flavorful and tender - well-worth the cost. My husband had the filet and was not disappointed. Portions were more than adequate so we brought home enough for another meal.
Our server Nick and the entire staff did such an incredible job of making out first wedding anniversary special. The food was fabulous, the service was excellent and we even got a photo souvenir to take home. Our steaks were perfection, cooked exactly as we ordered them. Worth every penny. We will definitely be back.
My wife and I are busy raising a five year old and holding very demanding jobs, and our time alone is very valuable to us. Per usual, we selected Ruth's Chris to celebrate our anniversary, and are usually very pleased. We love Ruth's Chris for its great atmosphere and delicious menu! Unfortunately this visit was disappointing. The Brussels sprouts and bread pudding were both undercooked, and the service was slow. Just very disappointed on our anniversary.
Sorry to complain but I am sure the restaurant wants to know what is wrong so it can be corrected, otherwise they would not know.
--water glasses was not refilled. Had to ask waiter to refill.
--3 out of the 4 steaks was very fatty. Very tasty, but fatty and not acceptable.
--Porterhouse for 2 came rare, ordered medium, all sliced so chef could see the inside, and
had to be returned to kitchen. Surprised this happened at Ruth Chris for a $89 steak.
--waiter was way less then desirable.
--Appears service and kitchen control has really gone downhill.
--We did get a credit for the 3rd steak which was fatty also.
When we pay $14 for a cosmo, and $44 for a steak we expect it to be over the top, and this was
not the case. We have visited this restaurant many times, and it appears that management is really not paying close enough attention to detail, so paying these Miami prices, we expect perfection which we have always received until now.
The food and service were fantastic as always. However, I was disappointed at the staff for not bothering to stifle a loud mouth at the table next to us. At $100+ a person, I shouldn't have to endure my steak with a side of racial slurs and derogatory terms for the mentally disabled.
It is a steakhouse so the steaks should be excellent. They are brilliant!
Got a tour through the kitchen, mainly to understand how they prepare 'Pittsburgh style' and now I know the trick. Worth mentioning when ordering.....
Service is great and also the appetizers are of wonderful quality. Good to share otherwise you cannot enjoy the steaks anymore.....
Our group of 6 ladies went to Ruth Chris because 5 of the 6 had not been to the restaurant. Everyone enjoyed it immensely and all thought the steaks were cooked perfectly and were outstanding. We have talked about going back and bringing our husbands. I have been to many Ruth Chris restaurants across the country and this restaurant probably had the best steaks and best service. Thanks to everyone!!!
The Sarasota Ruth's has slipped a bit after a recent management changes, not so much in food taste or quality but in the service details. They do not do quite as good a job on the details as they once did. Still good service but no longer great. We still enjoy it but miss the way it was a year or less ago.
Can't say enough good things. They had a perfect booth that was specially prepared and a birthday card signed by the whole staff. The food was delicious, I had the bone in filet, superb, and my wife had the lobster and filet which was also prepared extremely nicely. Of all the steakhouse restaurants in Sarasota, this is the best with Capitol Grille not far behind. Kudos to the staff for making my 50th birthday special.
We have dined here many times over the past 10 years (most recently for the Ruth's Chris anniversary dinner last month)and have always had a great experience. As such, we decided to have a double celebration there on Sept. 7th (our 31st wedding anniversary & my birthday). We were thrilled when we were taken to our table and found it festivally decorated for our special occasion. It was pretty much downhill after that.
Things got off to a bad start right off the bat when our server introduced himself & asked if we'd dined there before. We told him yes, we had many times and he proceeded to take our order. Halfway through he halted us & felt compelled to explain that the menu was a la carte & each item was separate and things could therefore get expensive. We don't know why he felt he had to explain this to us after we told him we'd eaten there many times before. Frankly, we felt insulted & this put a quick damper on the evening. Things got worse when my wife's petit filet mignon turned out to have a large, inedible piece of fatty gristle which had to be cut off. Certainly, there is no way a small $40 piece of meat should be nothing but perfect but it wasn't. Additionally, we found the Oscar sauce which was recommended to us by our server to be bland & unappetizing.
Our biggest disappointment came when we received our bill & saw that we were hit with a $20 corkage fee for bringing our own bottle of wine. We have brought our own wine to Ruth's Chris many times before & never once been charged a corkage fee. Further, if they knew we were going to be charged then this should have been explained when we were being seated & the hostess offered to have it opened for us.
In hindsight, I should have spoken to a manager that evening about our bad experience but at the time I thought it would only throw a bigger damper on the evening. It's too bad that such an expensive dinner turned out to be a flop. Excuse the pun, but It definitely left a bad taste in our mouths.
Ruth criss enjoys a well earned reputation for fine dining and great service. We both watch our diets closely, but we were overdue for a "cheat" meal. The closest local comparison is Capital Grill, but to us, this restaurant is better. The atmosphere is quieter, the quality of the beef is noticeable better.
Having heard of the renown that Ruth's has earned I had always been wanting to try it out. After simply noting that my wife and I were having an anniversary dinner, upon arrival we were greeted by the matre'd, hostess Jennifer and server Mark with anniversary greetings. Upon seating I was floored to see our table decorated with rose petals and a card signed by the entire staff. The meal was unequivocally the best steak and au gratin potatoes I have ever eaten! After ordering a cheesecake for our dessert, what arrived was a custom made "Happy 2nd Anniversary" desert that was to die for and it was provided free of charge as an anniversary present! I have and will continue to recommend this establishment to everyone I know. I only wish there was one closeby to my home in eastern Ohio.
