Ruth's Chris Steak House - San Francisco Ratings and Reviews
Best Ruth Chris. Filet Mignon, prawns, lobster bisque, lobster Mac and cheese were fantastic. Warm bread. The three dipping sauces were great compliments to the meat. Our only complaint was the mashed potatoes. It was served warm, not hot.
Also the restaurant is getting old. We sat in a booth where the seat was torn and covered with masking tape. This shouldn't happened for a restaurant charging $100 per person. In addition, we were seated near the bathroom. We had 5 o'clock reservations and there was more than enough available booths in the restaurant.
My friend ( who has a disability) and I have enjoyed our dining and visits at Ruth's Steak House quite a few times. We like getting together over dinner and conversation. The service was perfect (server's name is India) and the menu presented is quality plus. We particularly liked that the staff honored our request to have a certain booth, where we could hear and enjoy conversation over a delicious dinner. Thank you.
Was really excited about this place. My fiancé was wanting to go here for his birthday dinner. The thing about this place is they have a dress code policy however they don't enforce it. I sat at a booth and a gentlemen behind me kept putting his arm across the booth seat behind me. I'm pregnant so I sit all the way back. He did it rough one time and I felt my hair move. So he was literally not paying attention to what he was doing. I said excuse me can you not put your arm up you almost hit me. The gentlemen was rude and ignored me. The reason why I brought up dress code was because he was some guy wearing white tshirt and basketball shorts when this location doesn't accept that attire. I feel like if a person doesn't follow one simple rule I doubt their manners will follow. Only reason why I gave this place a 5 star is because of the manager. I asked a waiter to get moved once the gentlemen started saying extremely horrible things and we got moved. And the gentlemen was asked to leave. Manager was exceptional. My experience was great and good was as well once that issue was taken care of. Great management.
Celebrated our son's birthday at Ruth Chris. We had the prime rib, t-bone and the stuffed chicken. All of the entrees were cooked to perfection and were delicious. We ordered a side of baked potatoes and scalloped potatoes. The baked potato was huge a pound to be exact. The scalloped potatoes were good but a bit rich. Overall a wonderful meal.
The ribeye was delicious, although the starter & sides were a bit on the salty side. Our server Jonathan was fantastic. He was very patient & accommodating. I'd highly recommend this location to anyone looking for an upscale dinner venue with friendly service.
Took a party of 4 teenage boys hungry for a first class steak house to celebrate the end of summer. None of these guys had ever heard of Ruth's Chris but their parents and grandparents
had. I remembered the restaurant from 1990 and had great memories. Apparently, my memory is terrible. The boys liked the experience and that's the best thing that happened. I couldn't eat my T-bone steak...way too much gristle; could hardly cut it. The creamed spinach was too salty and the potatoes au gratin could've been better. The french fries were the best part of the meal for me. The wine came in second. Of course, I was the only one old enough to have a libation and good thing I did because the $551 bill was also a bit much to swallow.
All of the service people were prompt and courteous and most professional. And they did discount my steak at 50%. I was just extremely disappointed in my steak.
Sorry to say that this was one of the worst meals ever. I have dined at this location several times and enjoyed my meals. My recent experience was terrible. I had the classic dinner and the filet was quite thin and did not cook well(much of it overcooked and tough). The side dishes were bland...no taste or flavor. Even the dessert was awful.
Usually, Ruth's Chris is a great steakhouse. But this time, a couple of the dishes were disappointing. The steak was over salted. Why did they do that to my steak? And the lobster mac and cheese seemed burnt and not fresh. So I was disappointed. I've been going to Ruth's Chris over many years, but I think the quality is declining while the prices are increasing.
Steaks were cooked to perfection, sides were wonderful. We decided on the Chef's menu getting smaller sides (but they were still large) and a salad for $55 each. The problem was (the restaurant) allowed a large group of younger kids at a table close to us. That group was loud and disrespectful and adding more and more to their party causing them to block the isle with extra chairs. Didn't expect this from Ruth Chris, it was more like a BJ's atmosphere! The group was asked to leave (after other guests complained). While leaving they started throwing out F Bombs, yelling at everyone in their path, all the way from the back of the restaurant to the front. Their behavior casted a shadow of disappointment over our experience. I'm sure it doesn't happen often but for me, I won't be going back to that location.
Ruth's Chris...you are all hype! It was a nice meal, but $50 bucks for an 11 oz steak? Let's be real, I cook a better steak at home. I'd stick to their appetizers and desserts...oh and drinks! Other than that, nothing too great about it. Overpriced for nothing. Thanks for a night out though!
The dining room had a cozy comforting feel, even though we were a party of eight. Since the dinner was to celebrate my birthday, the dining table was sprinkled with colorful metallic "Happy Birthday" confetti! The wait staff were very attentive to our needs. Five of our party ordered the Beet Salad as our Starter. Unfortunately, we were told later that they had run out. However, they gave us the option of ordering their Harvest Salad, which was very delicious. The filet mignon & shrimp were cooked well & very flavorful. My husband ordered the roast chicken, which he said was a bit too salty for his taste buds. Finally, the 3-course meal was supposed to end with an apple gallette, which they had also run out of. Fortunately, they let us order from their dessert menu, from which we got their crème brûlée, molten chocolate cake, chocolate mousse, bread pudding, & cheesecake; all of these were exceptionally delicious. I would have to say that the highlights of the dinner was their Harvest Salad, the filet mignon, & all of their delectable desserts!
We found a piece of chewed up gum embedded in our crab cake. Upon attempting to leave, the manager assured us she would comp the entire dinner. And then she presented me with a bill at the end. We also were all sick the next morning from the food. Do not go to this location.
My husband and I had last gone to Ruth's Chris in San Francisco for an anniversary about 5 years ago, and had enjoyed it very much. Unfortunately, our family trip for my birthday last Saturday evening was a disappointment. The restaurant has certainly gone downhill.
The first thing we noticed when we were seated was that the vinyl seat of our booth had a large worn and cracked spot, which was partially covered by several pieces of wide tape. After we got settled, we also noticed that the atmosphere was rather dark, and that there were several flies buzzing around, which wasn't very appetizing. The bread was a bit difficult to eat, because they gave us a mostly uncut loaf, but it did taste good. My son and I each ordered a filet, and my husband ordered a New York steak. The filets were much thinner and wider than the traditional filet mignon cut as shown on the Ruth's Chris web site, which meant that there was less of the nice pink center! (See photo below.) The New York Steak had lots of large chunks of fat in it, not delicate marbling. All three steaks were over-salted, and were sitting in puddles of very salty butter. The separate vegetable side dishes were also very salty. On top of all this, my son discovered a large lump of gristle in the middle of his filet, which made the edible part even smaller. The inside of the steak was tasty, but there wasn't much "inside" because of the wide, thin cut. After we finished, they took the plates away, and we sat at the empty table for at least ten minutes waiting, but they didn't offer either the check or dessert. We had to ask for the dessert menu. My son got the "Chocolate Duo", which was a small chocolate lava cake and some chocolate mousse. However, he had trouble actually tasting the chocolate in the supposed "chocolate" cake. As for the chocolate mousse, let's just say it matched the salty theme of the evening and leave it at that. After we finished dessert, this time they mercifully brought the bill promptly.
Very friendly, attentive staff. Made my son feel special immediately by sprinkling "Happy Birthday" confetti on the table. Our party of 7 had great seating. Delicious food. I had the filet mignon with shrimp, garlic mashed potatoes, beet salad and dessert. The best warm and soft French bread! Nice ambiance.
I could tell there's a selection of chefs by the details of my food, I recently dined here on Father's Day w/ my siblings, Father& I. I ordered the exact same thing, I'd ordered today which was the loaded mash& a well done, Double stuffed chicken. On Father's Day my loaded mash was LOADED! Lots of cheese, sour cream, bacon& Chives. My chicken was exactly how I ordered it, Double stuffed, well done 🙌🏼 but today , lol today was cool I guess🤷🏼♀️ my loaded mash was more like loaded butter. It was more butter then anything on my mash potatoes. NO cheese& about 9 pieces of bacon& chives lol... I had to ask 2 separate waiters about cheese for my potatoes. My chicken was good but I asked for double stuffed chicken. Just a little food for thought
I eat here often. I greatly appreciate they keep in their system my special needs and likes. I am disabled so I need to dine at a table with chairs and not one of the booths. Also, I do not like it when the female waitperson addresses me as "HUN." Hence, I always have a male waitperson who does not address me as "BOSS." They have my request for "no chard meat" on file. Hence, my steaks are great. All this said to point out they are very good at making your visit very special and very enjoyable. A true hold out for fine dining. jmo
We enjoyed our meal It was our daughter and son-in-law 50th b-days The desert they received was lovely to look at and was delicious The meal itself was outstanding as it always is Our waitress Chelsea was terrific, friendly and helpful with any questions Our food was brought at just the right time and served hot. We will definately come again
We have been going to this restaurant for special occasions for 20 years.
Unfortunately, we probably won't return.
Has gone downhill in every way, yet is still quite pricey.
Our last 3 or 4 experiences have been sub par.
There are too many better quality restaurants to choose from in SF that are less expensive ,or better quality.
Been coming here for years with my family. Took my father out for a belated Father's Day dinner. Had a giants hat on and was
Told to remove it before entering the main dining area bc they "were trying this new thing of making it more formal". As we were leaving, same hostess sat a white woman wearing a Yankees hat at the table behind us and didn't ask her to take it off. Either a double standard, subtle racism (an Latino) poor judgment, or some combination of all three. My money spends the same, hat or or hat. And I won't be spending my money here any longer.
The server was really engaging but not attentive. We were given a moment to look at the menu when we weren't ready but we were never checked upon afterwards to at least place in our drink order. The wait was long enough that we were staring around. By the time she came we had to place our appetizers, drinks, entree, and side orders. it was annoying to have to go through that long of a list because we weren't attended to enough. The drinks arrived and the bread thats handed out did too. Wine came first, than the bread, followed by the calamari. Half of our wine, half of the bread and all of the calamari was gone by time our food even came out. We were on the cusp of getting full and our server was no where in sight to check up on us and when she did, it was to take our orders again. She obviously forgot about us and apologized once she realized we were already existing patrons. Our food finally came out and it was delicious. Too bad the specialty knives that we were supposed to use wasn't given to us from the beginning. Midway through the dinner I realized that my wine had a bubble in it, shined the flashlight from my phone and it was a fruit fly! Our server offered another glass but by that time, we were ready to pack our steaks to go because we were full. However she did take off the wine from our check as I requested. Overall, food was amazing, server was engaging but her attentiveness was few and far in between. I couldn't tip her the way I wanted to because Ruth Chris's has mobile card swipe that generates a receipt that the server holds. So it was awkward placing the tip with the server holding it. We definitely can't bring ourselves to coming here again because our experience, feeling like prisoners to the restaurant far outweighed the positives we had from the quality of food they served. We were there for nearly 2.5 hours. 2.5 hours for dinner, all I can say is smh.
