Ruth's Chris Steak House - San Francisco Ratings and Reviews
Ruth's is often on our list for special occasions, and this time, it was good, but not great. The service was outstanding like usual, and I love their Ruth's Classics menu (makes it easy). The filet was pretty flat and misshapen, and the flavor just wasn't what it usually is. It just seemed like they are cutting corners on the meat, but maybe it was just an odd couple of steaks we had. The bread was better than it's been in the past, and the sides were really tasty, like usual. She let us upgrade to the white chocolate bread pudding since it was our anniversary, and while a very nice gesture, the dessert was not good at all. If you're a lover of bread pudding, give this one a miss. They could really use some improvements in their dessert menu. It started in New Orleans, so how about a bourbon pecan pie?
Omg! Steaks were delicious! We thought we were going to have leftovers for lunch tomorrow but nope we each finished our steaks. Cooked perfectly, I wish I could cook steaks like this. Potato au gratin were cold but the steaks were sizzling hot. Can’t wait to go back!
It was our first time eating at Ruth Chris. We were coming from the Theater. The hostess welcomed us when th a warm greeting and we were sat right away. Jack the waiter was warm and happy to show us the ins and outs of the menu. The food was amazing. We were left to enjoy and there was no feeling of being rushed.. My tip is do the special (best value)
Best idea for NYE celebration reserving a late time close to the countdown so you can have a nice dinner and walk to Top of Hill and watch the fireworks. Had their seasonal promotion specials. Most people have cleared out already heading to dance venues so actually it was not super crowded and the food came in ample time. Was able to finish in good time and walking distance to Nob Hill to do the countdown and watch the fireworks. Overall, fantabulous.
First time at Ruth’s Chris & it was worth it. Steaks are so delicious. I found that a small appetizer & my steak was plenty, I ordered a side & didn’t end up eating it. Restaurant was a bit louder than I expected but that may have been due to the holiday season. I would absolutely recommend.
To all opentable diners, please do not use this restaurant to redeem your dining rewards. Even though this restaurant is listed under opentable's website that accepts dining rewards, their restaurant manager will refuse to accept and honor your dining rewards. It was a huge embarrassment for me and my guest, and even to the wait staff and the nearby diners. It was a horrifying end to the evening. I contacted opentable and they cannot do anything about it either.
Food taste, standard
Price, superrr pricy
Staff, kinda tip-oriented, than service-oriented.
lack of staff’s attention. I am finding hard time to order additional food, hence i have to walk around the restaurant to find the staff.
STRONGLY NOT RECOMMENDED.
We were celebrating a special occasion-anniversary. The service was incredible. Our waiter was fantastic. (Patrick). The manager also came to wish us a happy anniversary. Our expert was awesome. The food was wonderful. My only suggestion would be to warm/toast the bread.
We had a huge party for a visiting friend and the service ruined the entire experience. Half the dishes we ordered were late, some never arrived at all. Drinks went unrefilled, wine bottle requests ended up in half hour loops of waiting followed by a response that the bottle on the menu no longer existed. Totally awful. I have been a loyal patron for many years, and it was my idea to have this party there, but I won’t return until I hear they have fixed their serious issues.
Great dining experience! We went on Christmas Day, so it was very busy. Nonetheless, the steaks arrived perfectly cooked, the portions were generous and service was attentive. We were a little hesitant going to Ruth Chris because it’s a chain, but we will be back! It may be our new favorite steakhouse, and in San Francisco there are some good ones.
I don't eat a lot of red meat. but when I do, I want QUALITY. Some steak houses put quantity ("Try our 88 oz super steak") at the expense of quality. Ruth's Chris chooses to use ONLY PRIME meat. You CAN taste the difference. By the way, they DO have several LARGE portions, which can be split. The service is always great and the servers know what they are selling; they are a great resource if you aren't sure about your choice. With the quality of the food, you can expect to pay more, but it's worth it. However, if you are looking for a great meal at a better price, there are several combination offerings. I chose the petite filet (incredibly tender and PERFECTLY prepared) topped by 3 very good shrimp. It came with a Caesar salad, garlic mashed potatoes and a Key Lime tart (there ARE other choices). It was Christmas Day and it was very busy, but everything arrived at a decent pace and perfectly prepared. My biggest complaint, which I expressed on my last review here, is that I feel a bit claustrophobic as the tables are too close together. That being said, I will definitely return when I want a great steak, even though I have to drive 60 miles to get there.
Ruth Chris is always a great place to go especially for special occasion like Christmas you can’t go wrong with the surf and turf as the meat is so absolutely delicious, very tender. Just a tip -no need to get more than one serving of a side because they’re very large. I’ll be back next Christmas or sooner.
We went on Christmas day and that can always be hit or miss with any restaurant. I have been to several other locations and the food nor the service disappointed... This location is a typical city setting on the bottom floor of a building. It is a smaller (compared to some of the others) location and the ambiance is dark and quaint, however the food and the service was suburb.
Very disappointing compared to the old Ruth Chris steak house. In the past their rib eye steaks were cut at least an inch thick, the one I had considerably less. The restaurant was also cold.
A better bet for the money, and we spent almost $500 for 4 people, would be Harris steak house also on Van Ness.
First rate service is just the beginning, we were celebrating our 10 year wedding anniversary and they placed rose petals on our table and even gave us a delicious dessert with happy anniversary written on the plate in chocolate. We ordered the tomahawk ribeye which was not just amazing in flavor but the presentation it awesome. They really make you feel like you are the only ones there. They refill your water constantly and make sure if you need anything else. I can’t wait to go back again.
I've eaten at RCSH maybe 100 times over the years around the US. Mostly good to great experiences. Depending on location. Unfortunately my dinner last night did not meet neither my standards or the standards of RCSH. Food was so so and service was very weak.
