Ruth's Chris Steak House - San Francisco Ratings and Reviews
4 of 4 steaks came out severely undercooked. 2 well dones arrived with pink throughout (medium) while 2 medium-rare were cooked rare. Had to be re-fired which I feel shouldn’t really be occurring at a steakhouse. Service made up for things as much as they could but having to re-fire a steak definitely takes a lot away from the quality, taste and consistency of the meat
We made reservations to celebrate my husband’s birthday. We ordered as soon as we were seated because we were so hungry and we already knew what we wanted.
We waited a little over an hour before we received our food. I was so hungry I started munching on food I had in my purse. Unfortunately, when we received our food it was the wrong order! My husband ordered the surf and turf with a 16 oz ribeye. I ordered a 12 oz ribeye. Instead, we received 2 surf and turfs with petite filets!!! We had to wait again for our steaks. We also ordered the lobster Mac and cheese as a side. That order was right, so we ate that first.
I’m not sure what happened, why our order was wrong, and why it took so long to receive our food.
We chose to dine here for our anniversary. It was a huge disappointment. The place has gone downhill. The dress rules are lax and the service is lackluster. The hostess sat other groups that came after us. Even though we had reservations, we still had to wait at least 30 mins. The waiter had no personality at all. He didn’t introduce himself. He was just there to take orders. There was one piece of bread to start. He didn’t checked up on us. The steaks and lobster were nothing special. Lobster Mac was devoid of flavor. We didn’t bother to order anything else as we wanted to leave the restaurant. What a horrible experience and definitely not going back!
Overall food was great but the service during peak periods is poor. I’ve been to this restaurant many times and never had such a terrible time with the service. Initially the hostess was rude and insisted we had no reservation seating two other couples before us when she finally figured out she had been spelling my name wrong. We were sat at a middle table where the table was situated so that my husband ended up right in between the crease of two cushions. The server delayed our drinks by over 20 minutes after being ordered and in the meantime two other couples were sat at the tables surrounding us and immediately given their drinks as well as bread. We were given bread only after we asked. When our order arrived my husband did not initially recieve the surf from his surf and turf. When I asked the individual delivering the food when it would come he told me that it wasnt part of our order and we would have to wait for the server to fix it. During our meal neither of our drinks were ever refilled. We had to wait to catch someone to even ask for water.
We had gone out for a celebratory dinner for a recent achievement for my husband. The whole experience left us both disappointed in the service at such a high end restaurant. We used to come here fairly often but will not be after this. Such a shame.
It was my husband’s birthday but we didn’t get any little cake or singing as we did previously, which was disappointing. I mentioned at the checkin it was my husband’s birthday but I guess they don’t communicate to each other. I didn’t expect to repeat myself and appear obnoxious. Also, the server we had was too loud and has an attitude. This is not a pleasant experience at all but the steak is so delicious I would take a chance to hope that I don’t get the same server. It was just that particular server but the other servers are very professional, polite, and not too loud. Just our luck.
While we regret that this very pricey restaurant no longer offers their french onion soup, four of us had a nice selection of other delicious appetizers (stack of crab, ahi tuna & calamari) followed by very tasty entrees (lamb chops, petite filet with 3 jumbo shrimp, bone-in filet, and filet) that were perfectly coked. Sides of roasted Brussels sprouts (incredible) and baked potatoes were perfect with the warm bread served with the meals. 2 cocktails, 2 desserts (berries with cream and sorbet) and 2 coffees brought the tab to $400. Special event for sure!
Nick gave us good service tho the place was packed on this holiday.
Bone in ribeye was awesome!! Mom loved her 2 lobster tails and 6oz filet.
Loved our dessert too. I had the chocolate duo and Mom had the pumpkin cheesecake. All to end a perfect meal with leftovers for tomorrow. 😍
I had the surf and turf. It was very good. It came with two lobsters and a good size fillet mignon. Lobsters were very tender and the steak melts in your mouth. I also ordered a side of veggie and it was tasty, as well. It was my birthday and they served desserts for me and my family. It was a great experience for me and my family. One thing... don't be late. Everyone must be present before they can seat you. Bad traffic held up 3 people from my group and I was warned that they would cancel my reservation if we weren't all checked-in within 20 mins. I got very stressed thinking we would have to find another restaurant for our dinner. However, they were nice enough to keep my reservation and seated the 4 of us while we waited for the other 3. Besides the stress before sitting, overall experience was great.
I like the old school feel of the place. The bone in fillet was melt in your amazing and the hash browns were out of this world. You only need 1 side though. The Brussel sprouts were t that good and didn’t travel well. Highly recommend when you have money to spend.
This was my first time at this location. Overall everything was amazing. I ordered the tomahawk ribeye...40oz... not for the faint of heart. One of the best steaks I've had. Along with that we got the lamb chops and brussel sprouts with bacon and a touch of honey. Both i would recommend. Everything from the food to the service was on point. Thank you for a wonderful experience.
My wife and I celebrated our wedding anniversary at Ruth's Chris. We both were wished a happy anniversary by everyone! Our table was decorated for the occasion with rose petals, candle light -it was perfect. The restaurant served one of the best steaks we have ever had, if not the best. I recommend RC for special occasions, food, and its high-level of service.
When looking for a good steak house in San Francisco, this restaurant came up with pretty good reviews. What I wasn't prepared for, for me, was it was quite formal. What I mean by this, in my opinion, you would visit if it was a special occasion. As it is quite expensive. That aside, my husband & daughter chose the porterhouse steaks. This was cooked to perfection. they said was one of the best they have eaten on our visit to the states. As usual, they chose the fries, again a big portion, which we could not even manage between 3 of us. We had a side of asparagus and requested they were not cooked in garlic. The service was attentive, but not overbearing. When the wine we chose was unavailable, he actually chose a wine that was cheaper. Would definitely visit again.
I am a big fan or Ruth's Chris generally and have been to many around the country. However, my experience in SF was extremely disappointing. While the food was good, not great, the service was terrible. We had the misfortune of sitting next to a table of about 16-20 people who seemed to take all the attention away from the other tables including ours. We waited over 20 minutes to get someone's attention to order dessert, with our empty plates sitting all the while, then decided to just get the check and by 30 minutes, we got up to pay at the door. The manager on duty however was fantastic!! He went out of his way to apologize and recognized that what we experienced was not how anyone dining at Ruth's Chris should be treated. He ended up taking some charges from our bill and he recovered well on behalf of the staff. Unfortunately, I will not be rushing back to this location.
Great food. Wonderful service, We have celebrated a couple of birthdays at Ruth's Christ's restaurant. The special birthday person always receives terrific treatment and service,,,,,,,,a free dessert , plus added decor on the table. A very popular place in San Francisco. It is always a delight and a pleasure to return to Ruth's Chris Steak House.
Service not up to par for the level of the restaurant. Cocktails ridiculously overpriced. 17.50 for a cosmopolitan. Not any real special ingredient(s) in that. Literally leaves a bad taste in your mouth. Most likely will not return. Too many other good restaurant choices in the area.
