Ruth's Chris Steak House - Princeton Ratings and Reviews
Best Steak House in the area. This restaurant has a perfect combination of good food, good service and a comfortable experience. Nothing is ever bad, although sometimes service cold be a little better. I like the Capital Grill better, but this is a lot closer. Prices could be better, but it is OK for a special ocasion
Our food was delicious and our server was friendly, but it took an hour from when we first sat down to when we received our entrees. Granted it was a Saturday night but we had a 6:30 reservation; we were seated approx 6:45p and dinner came out just before 8p.
I am sure we will go back but I wouldn't eat that "early" again.
Dinner at Ruth’s Chris is always a fantastic experience. The food is cooked to perfection and the drinks are delicious. Our waitress Samantha went above and beyond to make our first night out post (second) baby absolutely perfect - she was friendly, knowledgeable about the menu, and very attentive. I always look forward to my meals here, and will be back in the (hopefully) near future.
We always stop for dinner at Ruth’s after the theater and are never disappointed! The restaurant has a great atmosphere and the service is top notch. Food is always prepared as ordered. One of my favorite dishes is the potatoes at gratin. We stopped here recently with friends that have never been to a Ruth Chris’ before and they were very satisfied with the choice of restaurant and extremely impressed with he food and service.
The worst service of any Ruth’s Chris I have ever visited. We find a Ruth’s Chris in every city we travel. We brought our daughters who were visiting Princeton, for a nice dinner. We spent 2 1/2 hours in the restaurant for a simple dinner. Steaks were over cooked and sent back. Side dishes were cold. Staff disappeared and would not refill beverages or clear dishes. I would not return.
Relaxed pace, bread & butter was delicious, salad selection extensive and tasty, filet was done perfectly(med-rare) but surprisingly not juicy, my wife had the lamb chops which were superb. Then the desserts were over the top.
I will go for the rib eye next time, I guess the filet’s are too lean.
What we love about Ruth Chris is everything else. We know we are going to get a great steak but our appetizer, (veal ossin bocci ravioli) and our vegetable, ( roasted brussel sprouts) were fantastic. Add a great bottle of wine and a personable waiter and it all adds up to a prefect anniversary dinner
Thanks, Tom and Kathy
Service was slow but it was New Year’s Eve. I’ve been coming to Ruth’s Chris for many years but never had such a bad experience! My friends desert had a AA battery in it. He noticed it didn’t taste right but had a few bites before the battery was discovered.
Was hoping for a nice quiet dining experience with my husband but instead we were quite disappointed. We have dined at this Ruth Chris several times in the past and tonight was completely off night. First we arrived at 8:05 for our 8:15 reservations and did not get seated until after 8:35. Then we were seated in the overflow dining area next to a large loud party. Second, my steak arrived on a hot, but not sizzling plate only to find my steak was barely warm to the touch. After waving the table hostess down she took it away and come back in a few minutes with my steak which was now over cooked. Third, but not last our server was less than attentive all evening to our table and gave us the feeling that we were an afterthought to her. On two occasions we had to grab the attention of another server and table hostess to get us what we needed. She even messed up our bill and had to get it fixed.
Ate here with my wife on NYE, one of the busiest nights of the year. We were seated precisely at our reservation time in the main dining room and received courteous and knowledgeable service throughout. Food was cooked perfectly and as advertised our steaks came out sizzling with very hot sides. Coffee was refilled three times, as dessert took 15-20 minutes to arrive at our table after being served coffee. Ice cream arrived in freshly scooped condition.
Despite the high prices, I cannot understand why other reviewers (for any restaurant, not just RC) complain that on NYE they “expected a quiet dinner” or that (paraphrasing) “the food was cold, under/overdone, service was slow/poor”. There’s an upper limit for EVERY restaurant where the kitchen and waitstaff find themselves “in the weeds”. In my experience, even the best places are usually sub par on NYE. This time we got lucky, I guess.
To people who arrived around 8 on NYE and expected that they’d be seated immediately, I apologize because we were having a beautiful romantic celebratory dinner (no alcoholic drinks) and taking our time, plus the service was starting to slip. We left at 8:00 after being seated at 5:45. When exiting we observed the huge crowds in the waiting area due to the frenetic pace inside the restaurant, and that’s why we try to eat an earlier dinner at expensive restaurants on what we know will be busy nights. It saves us from being disappointed in both the food and the service.
I am surprised that you don't list great steaks as one of the reasons to recommend you. I come to your restaurant because you make one of the best steaks I have ever eaten in a restaurant. I make fabulous steaks myself, but sometimes it is easier to go out when you MUST have a good steak.
The other reason I love Ruth Chris is the way you serve the steak. It remains hot from the first to last bite. In any other steakhouse, I get through half the steak and give up - because it gets cold. And I cannot and will not eat a cold steak. And I hate eating steak really fast.
The service was perfect - helpful, friendly, accessible, knowledgeable and efficient without being overbearing. Everything we had, from the seafood tower appetizer, to the salads, to the perfectly done flavorful and tender steaks, was excellent, and prepared exactly as ordered. Extraordinary wine list. Quiet, warm atmosphere that let us talk to each other (a rarity these days). Yes, it's a bit pricey, but comparable to any NYC steakhouse and frankly, better than most.
I made a reservation for 8pm. Upon arrival to the restaurant, I checked in with the hostess who said it would be a 10 min wait. Unfortunately, 10 mins turned into 20 mins and my name still was not called. I returned to the hostess table and she said it would be another 10-15 mins. I informed her I would go to the lounge area, considering it was fairly empty and order from there. In the lounge area, I sat at a table for approximately 10 min. During this time, none of the staff gave me a menu or asked if I needed anything. I then went up to the bar and asked for a menu and then looked it over at my seat. Another 15 mins passed, and no one took my order. When I was walking out, the bartender came to the table and asked to take my order. I then voiced my frustration and she apologized. The service this night was horrible and I will not be returning back to this location.
Food was good, but very pricey. The sides are small portions. The service was only ok. At a place like this I expected an higher level of attentiveness. After we were served our dinner, we didn’t see our waiter for long time. I had to track down an assistant server to ask for more water since our glasses had been depleted. She said ok, disappeared but then came back and said someone else will bring it out as she started to help another table with packaging up their leftovers. We ordered coffee with our dessert. No servers asked us if we wanted more coffee. For the prices they charge, I was expect much better service.
We’ve been to Ruths Chris several times for special occasions which is why we selected it for christmas dinner. Restaurant was crowded as you would expect on a holiday but was disappointed when not one, but two of our ala carte items were COLD and one of our steaks needed to be sent back. This is a dinner we are paying a lot for - would have hoped all items would be correct - and we could eat as a family.
Food was terrific, as was most of the restaurant staff (valet, coat check, table bussing). Our server may have been new, because there were some key points that were missed, which I detailed privately to management. I would recommend Ruth's Chris in Princeton to anyone, our server notwithstanding.
Don’t book this restaurant on a busy day. We booked for a Christmas Eve family reunion and were very disappointed. They should inform guest that they may be seated in a large banquet room rather than the main dining room. Difference of night and day. The ambiance was poor.
With all the extra guests, the kitchen had problems, over cooked meat and undercooked lobster.
What they did is wrong. You book a premium location at a premium price and get poorly cooked food and seated in a corner looking at a blank wall. At least the family company was wonderful. Had the management been forthcoming and mentioned the seating arrangement, we could have made a decision to go elsewhere.
The greatest dinner we've ever had. We celebrated our anniversary and Ruth Chris was nothing less than phenomenal. They placed rose petals on the table, took our picture and treated our anniversary with appreciation. I've never had food taste so good as the food at Ruth Chris. I had the New York Strip and it was a spiritual experience. The stuffed mushrooms were amazing and my girlfriend's barbacue shrimp was 10 out of 10. The best dining experience we've ever had.
