Ruth's Chris Steak House - Portland Ratings and Reviews
We came here for a day early Valentine's dinner prior to the Johnny Mathis concert and it was really enjoyable. My wife started with the grilled asparagus and for her entree ordered the king salmon and lobster tail. I had the lobster bisque for the starter and the coco sea bass entree. We decided to have seafood because we always have their great steaks.
This is the first negative review I have given. We had a great experience last time we visited Ruths Chris before they moved and were looking forward to a special night. We were a few minutes early for our reservation so stepped into the bar for a drink which was delightful. The waitress came and told us our table was ready right on schedule. We paid for our drink were told to wait just a minute for our table. After 20 minutes I asked about our table and in another 20 minutes we got our table. The waiter was pleasant and knowledgeable and took an order for an appetizer. Finally it arrived and he took our dinner order well after our appetizer was gone. It was a long wait for dinner and our plates sat there for quite a while after we were finished. I was happy to finally get our check so we could get back to having fun in Portland. The bill was over 200. and I probably should have said something but I will remind myself next time there are many restaurants where I can get a prime steak and great service and will try Mortons next time.
This was our second time to Ruth Chris in three weeks. The first time the T-bone steak was unbelievable. This time, unfortunatley did not taste as flavourful as the first time. Disappointing but got eaten!! The restaurant was booked which was unfortunate that the 2nd floor was not open for service because certainly there was plenty of walk-in's for dinner to fill it! We waited 1/2 hour to get a seat in the lounge and what made it worth the wait was the service. Our server Amanda was AMAZING. Excellent guest services skills and a joy to have serve our table. The creme burlee is on of my favourites in Portland. Probably will not return for awhile because the steak was not consistent as the first time and this is what brought me back the second time.
The meal was great for our dinner, the only downside was that our group of 8 was seated right at the entry of the restaurant which isn't ideal for me and not towards the rear of the place. Service was prompt at the beginning but then when it came time to get our check it took close to 45 minutes after our dessert and our wait staff wasn't around much after we finished our main course.
The service was very poor. I have been going to this location since it moved from it’s prior PORTLAND location. The waiter was overworked and inattentive. I had to remind him about an appetizer order at least 30 minutes after we ordered it, after waiting 20 minutes to even have a waiter come to the table. Two of our steak orders (out of four) were wrong, but given the poor, untimely service, we just ate. The worst experience I have had in many years of going to this location. I will not be returning or recommending this location in the future.
Unfortunately for a milestone birthday, it was a very, very disappointed evening dinner.
Only the cocktail and complimentary dessert really hit the spot. I, the Birthday customer, had to pass my ribeye steak to my 90 year old friend. His was not acceptable. My steak arrived, another disappointment, leaving me with no option but to accept the plate within the time left to enjoy our meal. Sorry, but nothing there that would tempt us to ever return to this location. Cannot even compare to Laurelhurst Market or Sayler's Country Kitchen. My last birthday meal we enjoyed there was really good. Too bad it slipped to this level.
First of all, we had a reservation, arrived a few minutes after our reservation time, and still had to wait 10 minutes for our table to be ready. It was a little off-putting, especially for a Sunday evening.
After being seated, the service and food was excellent! Our waiter was very pleasant, helpful and personable. My husband loved his Dirty Martini. The steaks were the best! Husband ordered the 16oz ribeye, and I ordered the 6oz filet with shrimp...so very good! We ordered the mushroom cous cous and garlic mashed potatoes for sides...both really good. We had the creme brulee and cheesecake for dessert. Both were good, but the creme brulee was one of the best we've ever experienced.
Overall, wonderful dinner and service. Only recommendation would be for the reservation tables to be ready at reservation time. After all, isn't that why customers make reservations? We were seated 15 minutes after our reservation time. I feel that is ridiculous.
We went for our anniversary and had a fantastic dinner! The steak was so good! I had the filet and my husband tried the ribeye. For our shareable side we had the lobster mac and cheese which was excellent! Our table was surprisingly decorated with rose petals for our anniversary and there was a card on the table as well, the service was excellent. Our waiter was very knowledgeable of the menu and friendly. I would definitely recommend this restaurant for a special occasion or even just a nice dinner(:
