Ruth's Chris Steak House - Portland Ratings and Reviews
Our server was amazing! We celebrated my 20th birthday there and we were treated like royalty! The food was amazing. Though they can't really cook a steak past rare.. it got very loud in there also. besides that the restaurant was amazing. Great spot to celebrate a birthday. Very attentive
This is a good restaurant. But Ruth's is just proufoundly overpriced. It's insulting, actually. $450.00 (with tip) for 6 people, no alcohol, three desserts split between us 6. That price tag is an abomination. Sure, we expect at these "fancy" steak houses to pay a chunk of change; and though we know the food and preparation can't possibly be worth the high price, we pay it anyway because the food is good and the service is awesome. But, honestly, this is a scam, playing off the pride of humans. We should all stop going to Ruths and other "fancy" steak houses until prices come down to a far less insulting level.
On the other hand, if you enjoy being insulted by the price then you will get excellent food and top notch service at this particular Ruth's Chris in Portland, OR, USA.
Great food, great service, friendly greeting when walking into the restaurant, remembered that is was a birthday celebration and made it special throughout the evening. Only problem was a group of very loud, slightly obnoxious diners seated nearby -- but staff, food and good vibe made up for it.
Very accommodating! They kindly adjusted my reservation time and number of people last minute which I was so grateful for. The hostess was also very polite about the dress code that my father had been unaware of when she gently asked if we would tell him to remove his hat. As a cocktail server I somewhat expected to be treated a bit sub par since we clearly we not the usual type of clientele to dine there but the entire staff was all very kind and gave us the best service! I believe Scott was our server who was knowledgeable and had a perfect sense of timing but the person who stood out the most was the gentlemen who was around from the time I walked in and also made several appearance at our table throughout the evening. He was super funny! Cracking jokes from the moment I walked into the building which made me feel much more at ease and even had some great drink and starter recommendations. The food was fantastic. My only complaint is the mashed potatoes. They weren't bad but not the same kind of phenomenal the rest of the meal was. All in all I was very pleased with my experience and cannot wait to go back.
Steak and potatoes were excellent! The beet salad had lots of tasty toppings but they were placed on top of strange colorless tasteless greens. Service was very slow. We had to ask for the check so we could make it to our concert on time and sat many minutes between courses. We were a little disappointed especially since this was not a cheap meal. We ate here during their March special and everything was excellent.
Although the food was AMAZING, it's expensive enough and then when the bill came they overcharged my steak by $20. Instead of refunding the overpayment they put a second charge on my card, which took out immediately, but the credit didn't show for 3 days. At almost $300 for the meal, I didn't appreciate the extra charge for the additional days.
I've been to several locations. While not a steak eater, I think the sea bass is the best I've ever had. Large portion, very nicely seasoned and incredibly tender. It's like slicing butter.
The sides are great and offer plenty of choices for non-meat/fish eaters. The shoestring potatoes are always excellent, as are the au gratin potatoes and grilled asparagus.
Good but not great dessert choices. The service is top-rate. A safe and rewarding choice in whatever city you're in.
This was not my best experience at a Ruth's Chris. Sat at a table in the lobby. Had a reservation for 2, but were sat at a table ready for 4. I had to ask to have the extra place settings removed. Black slacks, but not offered a black napkin. Somebody opened the blinds, it was way too sunny. We asked our waitress and she simply said it wasn't her call. Love Ruth's Chris, not this location.
