The food was delicious and the service was excellent! My wife and I were both surprised however that the leather bench seats we were sitting on each had a large gash in them. It seemed pretty shoddy for such a nice restaurant.
When we arrived, the table that had been reserved for us was getting some direct sunlight on it, so the hostess graciously allowed us to choose another table. The waiter was attentive and helpful, but not too intrusive. My wife ordered the small filet, Oscar style, and I had the fillet medallions with shrimp, with a bleu cheese crust on the beef. Our side dishes were creamed spinach, and fire roasted corn. The steaks arrived sizzling hot and cooked to perfection. The toppings were rich and delicious, and the side dishes were very well done. We ate until we could eat no more! No complaints about the food, servers or ambiance, but I do have one small complaint. My wife has some minor mobility issues, although not in a wheelchair and did not want to bring her cane to the restaurant so her problems weren't noticeable, but when she asked for the restroom, she was directed up two flights of stairs, which was difficult for her. When she exited the restroom, she saw an elevator door nearby which hadn't been offered as an option to her. If it's an option, I believe it should have been offered to her and every customer, even though there might not be any obvious need.
This was the first time I'd eaten here despite living in the area for a long time. Had an early pre-show dinner with my wife. We were on the upper level which is kind of dark but has a view out to the street from the front part. The service (after a 10-minute wait for our table) was excellent.
The food was good, with a couple reservations. My rib eye steak was flavorful but tougher than the ones I typically get at my local grocer. We had Caeser salads which were good, but the supposed shaved Parmigano cheese on top did not seem to be of the quality I am used to. Manager who came by to check on us (+ points) says they buy it pre-shaved, but he would talk to his people.
When they were out of the bottle of wine I wanted, I had a couple glasses (6 oz. pours) of cabernet. Big points for it being served at the proper (cellar) temperature, which is rare, especially for glass pours.
We chose this location because it is very convenient to the Schnitzer Concert Hall 2 blocks up the street. It's expensive, as are most quality steak houses. I would come back, but there are others in Portland that would be up on my list.
I have dined at Ruth Chris many times throughout the years. I can honestly say that I am never disappointed. This last time I had a Ribeye steak with the crusted horseradish topping. The steak was nothing less than stellar and could be the best I’ve ever had. I highly recommend Ruth Chris!
Service was great! The food was delicious. My filet was moist and cooked to perfection. Scalloped potatoes and Brussel sprouts were very tasty.
My wife and daughter-in-law were very impressed with their Mother’s Day meal at Ruth’s Chris. I expect this could become an annual tradition!
The drinks were overpriced but food delicious and plentiful when ordered as a 3-course meal. Will definitely go back.
Service was great at first, but in between our meal and dessert, it was very slow and my iced tea did not get refilled even though multiple people walked by, cleared plates, etc.
We sat in the bar for dinner. The chairs in the bar need to be refinished and recovered. They are very tawdry.
We’ve been Ruth’s Chris fans for years but this was very disappointing. Steak was full of gristle. One steak was undercooked and served cold , coffee was tepid, twice. Service died half way through the meal. Thank goodness for the busboy.
Dinner was AMAZING! We were celebrating graduation. Great service from an impeccable server who was attentive and kind. The food was delicious. It was the white chocolate bread pudding that made the night PERFECT! Wow, was it delicious!
Celebrated our 40th Anniversary. Staff was very attentive and food was excellent!
We went for my birthday. Our waiter came to our table very infrequently. He took our order, brought our wine, and brought our check. I requested that my lobster be cooked well done. It was not. He never came back to ask about our food. It was very bad service.
A very special evening at a special
Place to celebrate my husband’s birthday! Surrounded by our grown children and delighted by delicious food with excellent service! Thank you Ruth’s Chris!
The staff clears plates and food items while people are still eating so I’ve rated the service low. This has happened to us twice in the last month. This is very uncomfortable for the person who is still eating their meal.
Other than the above issue, I really enjoy dining here. The food and ambiance are wonderful.
Our reaction mid-meal meal, was to wonder aloud if everyone knew about this magical place. Of course they do – it’s a wildly successful chain - But the food was so mind numbingly good we could not stop exclaiming over it. A huge part of The positive experience was our server, Justin. He was so well-informed, and made sure we had The right information to make our selections on steak and sides. The drinks were fantastic. The wine was incomparable. For the first time ever, I had a ribeye steak, which I may now have forever because it was so flavorful and tender. This, too, was thanks to our servers expert opinion about the structure of the meat and the level of cooking that would bring out the most flavor. We had a number of different sides - each one better than the last. The only exception to this was the asparagus. It is not in season, and was woody and tough. I wish that they would, perhaps, just stop serving it during the off-season if they can’t get good asparagus. That said, I know if I had not seen it on the menu I certainly would have asked so Next time I will remember to ask if it is in season. The size of the portions is really large – certainly they have to be shared, and thankfully my friend and I had planned in advance to take so much of it home that we didn’t feel at all guilty ordering every single thing we wanted. Yes, it is definitely an expensive evening out and it’s not something we do very often, but it’s something to look forward to. We will be requesting Justin as our server whenever we do go.
From the moment we walked through the door, this experience was outstanding. Every employee we encountered was so gracious. From the guy who brought us our water and bread, to Meredith, our server, Mason - the wine guy, and the gentleman who served us our steak ---- totally, totally awesome experience. I hope to come back in the not too distant future.
Excellent as always. Consistently the best steakhouse in Portland!
The service was impeccable but the quality of food has very unfortunately declined.
Great service and excellent steaks. Customers loved it.
Always a dependable place for a great steak. Excellent wine list and we enjoyed a couple of bottles of Symmetry red blend. Nice evening
The food, service, ambiance were wonderful with one small exception: the vegetable side dish was mostly zucchini and squash—boring! It would have been good to have some more winter vegetables like carrots, broccoli, turnips, parsnips, et al.
We went because of the March $33 three course menu. This included a salad, steak, mash potatoes, creamed spinach and a cheesecake dessert with raspberry sauce and chocolate. The food was absolutely amazing. The steak was cooked to perfection the way I requested. The wine was tasty as well (a little spendy though}. Our wait staff were exceptional and very accommodating. We definitely will return.
The is our third year in a row to celebrate our anniversary at Ruth's Chris and more than likely our last. Service at the bar before going to our table was certainly not "prompt" in any stretch of the imagination unless you enjoy being ignored by bartenders when you are sitting right in front of them. The caesar salad was laughable in size and quality. The shoestring potatoes came to us cold. The meat (steak and lamb chops) were as always perfect. They do meat well. It was disappointing.
Ruth Chris has been our go to spot for celebrations yet this time it was a disappointment. The dark second floor set the tone. Service was de- personal and the food was just OK. I will think twice about returning especially for those prices.
People sitting next to us were on speaker phone. I would’ve thought someone would have asked them to turn off but nobody did. Ordered Lobster with meal which was forgotten until too late. We DID get to eat it for free do to this, so that was nice. Table too close to others. Food was amazing! Drink & dessert presentation amazing as well! Server very friendly but hard to understand cause it was so loud & he had an accent.
Great steakhouse! Good value for the quality of food and service. I have had better steaks, but can't complain that this wasn't good food. I liked their add-ons, like the blue cheese crust. Their sides are so delicious and their desserts are huge, sweet and very filling! I would recommend and will be back!
Once again the food was excellent. We had a great time.
Perfect service and attentive. Food was ecement. Only thing I would change is the mashed potatoes. Needs more flavors.
Outstanding food and excellent service by the server. We were disappointed by the hostesses when we first came in. They made us wait about 10 minutes (even though we had a reservation) while they answered phones and didn’t acknowledge us. However, once we sat down we felt the server turned the situation around.
As usual, R'sC was great. Not so usual, it was quite crowded and louder than we're used to. Business seems strong here and in the other downtown stops we made. Ruth's is reliably high quality in every regard. Just don't for get to bring a pocket full of good ingots...
My wife and I go once a year for dinning and a couple times to the bar. The dinning is always a treat. We are always VERY impressed with the service and the staff. So professional and classy. The food is outstanding. I equate it too a high end car, no gimmicks just quality.
Awesome food and great service. We went for the Portland Dining Month and ordered from that part of the menu. Amazing steaks as you would expect. Normal prices are pretty steep but we plan to go back for happy hour. We love going there.
The March Dining Month special was terrific. You cannot find a more delicious steak in Portland.
The food was delicious, the service impeccable and the ambiance worthy of a fine steakhouse. In short, dinner was everything one would expect. The noise level was a bit high but that is a personal judgement and it was still far below that of new restaurants with the "industrial" type design.
This was the absolute best steak and shrimp I have ever eaten in my entire life. It was my birthday and there were lovely birthday glitters sprinkled all over the table; everyone from the host to the waitress wished me a happy birthday! The cheesecake was small, but rich and to die for. You wouldn't want a bigger portion, believe me. It was one of the best dining experiences I have ever had and we will be back!
My wife & I dined during Portland March Dining Month. We really enjoyed our experience. My only suggestion would be to improve the salad course. The greens were not as fresh as we like and the salad lacked innovation. The cocktails, wine, steaks and desserts were outstanding as was the service from the moment we entered the establishment. I had called ahead to let the staff know we were celebrating my wife's birthday. The staff had reserved a quiet, romantic table with birthday wishes on the table. My wife and I plan to return for a repeat performance!
Best steak house ever. I highly recommend . Very expensive but worth every penny!
The food was great!
Our server Paul did a fantastic job!
Thanks Ruth's Portland.
It’s a lovely place with really good, buttery food. Not the healthiest and way overpriced but a nice experience overall.
