Ruth's Chris Steak House - Popular Center - Permanently Closed Ratings and Reviews
This restaurant is located at the old Bankers' Club facilities in the financial sector of San Juan. It has the best city view of any restaurant in town. Ruth's Chris menu is the same just about everywhere, so you know what to expect. It is the view and the crowd - which is still the old Bankers Club crowd - what essentially makes this such a great place to have lunch or dinner. I am not sure whether the day view or the night view is the best. You will have to decide that by yourself. So, a good idea is to get there by 6:00 pm; go to the bar for drinks and watch the sunset and then stay for dinner. Believe me, it really doesn't get much better than that.
With 2 weddings going on in separate rooms, the noise from their music spilled over into the restaurant, because waiters did not close the doors between the restaurant and these rooms. The wait staff was very clumsy and showed a lack of training. Messing up orders, dropping utensils and generally not knowing what to do. This restaurant misses strong management, they don't even have a maitre"d.
My overall dining experience was good but the taste and quality of my steak was average. They couldn't get the temperature correct. I typically like my steaks Medium well closer to medium than well. My server suggested that I ordered it medium because their dishes come out on a hot plate but that was poor advice. The temperature was nowhere near my preference. My date enjoyed their dish everything came out perfect. The Remy Vsop blackberry sidecar was especially delightful.
Great service. Need to ensure more accuracy in serving the wines shown and more price differentiation of younger red wines versus older. First order of calamari was cold, but the waiter rapidly fixed the situation by bringing a new order. But overall, good experience and would come back again!
Food and service was previously top notch, but both have declined over the last year. On our last 3 visits, the lobster has been overcooked, we have received cold onion soup, and the drinks underfilled. In addition, the noise at the bar on this last visit was overwhelming the entire restaurant, making conversations difficult. Our request to change to a table further from the bar left us without menues for at least 30 minutes. This is unacceptable considering that the restaurant was not even close to full.
It was really good all what we had. Soups and maind entry very good. The service very good and the waitress well prepared and knowing about the food and wines in the restaurant. Meat was very good, lobster I was expecting a different texture and another flavor combinations.
The restaurant and everything that is food and service is a classic Ruth's Chris...but the ambiance is far from desirable if your on a date or looking for a quiet meal. I went for lunch and the noise level was horrible due to amount of business people there. The view is spectacular and would try this location again but for dinner and see how it goes.
It is a very nice place to have dinner either with your wife/husband, family and or friends. Nice atmosphere. Service and food are outstanding. Good parking facilities with optional valet service. Love this place. Always very consistent on quality of food and service. It is also a great place for a business dinner or lunch.
A very good dinning experience dampened by two of the least friendly hostesses. They were not very welcoming with an attitude you would expect at a cheap place, not at Ruth Chris. Fortunately, our waitress was outstanding, her name was Nanette. It was party of three and after reviewing their extensive wine list we chose a red wine from Australia which proved very good and reasonably priced. The steak was excellent, their ribeye is their best cut. The creamed spinach was quite good and a generous portion off sauteed mushrooms. For dessert we all shared the bread pudding and the pecan pie, both prepared to perfection. The table was situated right next to the waiters station and some waiters were noisier than others.
Excellent steak with a view. Always top quality in meats. Side dishes are perfect. This is the only penthouse view steakhouse in San Juan. Very easy access and parking. The wine list is very good and surprisingly affordable. Let's hope they keep it that way.
