Ruth's Chris Steak House - Pittsburgh Ratings and Reviews
Ruth's Chris is one of my favorite steakhouses. In every city I go, it is normally my go-to. This was my first visit to this particular one in Pittsburgh. Although my food was great as usual, the service at this location left me feeling disappointed.
I made reservations here on Open table for a 5:45 time slot (Party of 2). We arrived approximately 15 minutes early and were told they would seat us in about 10 minutes. This is not a problem at all, as we knew we were early, even though the restaurant was empty.
For the next 25 minutes we proceeded to count 27 people walk in and get seated ahead of us. Two groups of 8 each and a few smaller groups. (Some with and some WITHOUT reservations).
At this point, I decided to ask "how much longer?" The host, whom checked us in, looked at me like she didn't know who I was. No apology from her, just a "oh not sure what happened".
We were sat in a section where the server wasn't expecting us, and didn't seem thrilled to have to work.
To sum it up, great food, horrible service. Not what you would expect from a place that charges what they do.
Our party of 6 arrived at two different times......my son who's birthday we were celebrating...came a few minutes after I was seated......to be treated rudely by the gentleman working seating the guests...who insisted we did not have a reservation ......we spent over $500 waited over an 1 1/2 for our food.....our reservations were at 5:15 ..we left at 8:30.....very disappointed with our visit.......the rudeness and waiting ruined what should have been a special evening.....
Ruth Chris's is my go to restaurant when I want a special meal. Two things I would say:
1. The new bar is excellent! Nice, big and very welcoming.
2. Just disappointed in the deliver of the food. Where is the sizzle? Anytime you order a steak it sizzles and the restaurant sizzles? New plates and new things but the sizzle is gone. .
Still excellent food, still great place but no sizzle.
Plus - no cappacino or expresso - machines haven't been delivered? Really?
Fabulous food! Always thee best in town. Perfectly prepared steaks and all. Comfortable dining area.
Did not like the bar situation. Entrance door caused bunches of people closing in on us while we were having a cocktail behind what appeared to be similar the inside a boxing ring. Awkward design set-up for sure. Cold breeze always coming in too. Next time we may choose another place for our cocktail hour before dinner.
Service was outstanding at dinner. The bar however was slow to serve. Food was just over cooked. Not one of the six steaks were proper. One slip however does not make for permanent opinion.
Two prior dinner meetings were excellent across Service levels and food preparation.
Ruth's Chris maintains their #1 spot on my list of places for steaks. I had my usual (filet and baked potato) and my dining partner had the amazing surf and turf. He is not really a lobster guy, but he really like the lobster at Ruth's Chris.
Excellent food and stellar service will keep us going back to Ruth's Chris.
Steaks were great but one of the sides was cold and the other only lukewarm. They not only took the side off of the bill but also a glass of wine so I was really happy with how it was handled. They were also out of some menu items - possibly because they are closing on Monday for renovations. The service was great and overall we enjoyed our dinner.
You get both the sizzle and the steak. Great steak, served HOT, on HOT plates with a wonderful butter sauce. It's our "go to" steak place. Don't miss the spinach au gratin (it's the creamed spinach on the menu - just ask for it au gratin). When the steak comes out, spoon some of that spinach on to the hot plate, where it soaks up a bit of the butter sauce. Now, that's livin' at its best! If you can go with someone who likes their steak the same temp as you do, get the porterhouse for two. You can each have some of the sirloin side for flavor and the tenderloin side for tenderness. And, be sure to save room for the cherry cobbler.
I go to Ruth Chris a great deal because it is usually great for business meetings. I know they are under construction but the food was subpar at best. My guest ordered the hamburger medium and it came out as a well done hockey puck. I ordered the shrimp cocktail which I have had in the past and is usually great but yesterday some of the shrimp seemed old. If it is frozen shrimp they use it was a bad batch. If it is fresh I think they were prepared the day before. The Chile was great. WE didnt have time to return our meals and get something new or we would have, but just a heads up that the quality control might be off due to construction or someone called off sick perhaps.
Outstanding server, Jasmine, made our anniversary celebration truly memorable. Steaks just wonderful! She brought us champagne (a glass each) and strawberries as well as chocolate with macadamia nuts on a platter that said "Happy AnniversAry". Jasmine went the extra mile in a restaurant whose food excels consistently. Thanks Jasmine!
Ps: try the cherry cobbler-it's fantastic !
