Ruth's Chris Steak House - Palm Desert Ratings and Reviews
Open Table doesn't allow for a long post so I'll just say the ambiance was nice, the service good, the cocktails fantastic. But when it comes right down to it, the steaks at what is supposed to be one of the best steakhouses around just weren't very good. No sizzling plates, no melted butter aroma. The smear of butter on my steak (ordered medium rare) didn't event melt and the fat in the rib-eye wasn't rendered.
Have been to Ruth's Chris restaurants across the country. Took clients to dinner. Appetizer ordered but salads delivered. Order not entered. Ordered a second bottle of wine to find they had served us the last bottle. With 5 people, they should know we would drink more than one bottle. Why not tell us up front. Had to order a different wine. Three people ordered the same steak cut and were all three different when served. Different size and shape.
We had a very nice dinner, once again, at Ruth Cris. It seems that you can never go wrong in choosing this wonderful restaurant for a great meal. The food is always delicious, and the service is always excellent. We both chose the petite filet classic dinners. The portions were excellent and the side dishes perfect for sharing. Our server Mel, was more than accomadating. We always search out a Ruth Cris restaurant, even when we travel. This time we were in Palm Desert, California enjoying the holidays with my sister and her family.
Had the beet salad, but Carol (the wait person) clarified it was a mixed greens salad with beets - big difference and good for her for pointing that out. I asked for mostly beets and few greens - turned out fine. Taste was acceptable, but nothing outstanding. Followed with a rib-eye (no bone); prepared as ordered (med rare), but lacked a rich, beef flavor. It was a RC steak - they're just OK. The mashed potatoes were hot and tasted fine. The dessert of berries in a cream sauce remains the best thing on their menu (which is why it won over another place that has better steaks): rich, decadent, and tastes great! Service by Carol was excellent as was service by the hostesses. Overall, a much more pleasant experience than my last visit.
We went there to Celebrate New Years Eve with my Husband and my eighty year old parents. We have celebrated New Years together for the past ten years. I made this reservation back in November. We arrived and had to wait 45 minutes for a table. When we were finally seated, it looked like we were an after thought. The table we got looked like a card table they put up with four very uncomfortable chairs. It was such a disappointment. Needless to say our evening was not what we expected. I have already booked a table next year at the Chop House. I think that is where we will celebrate our New Years from now on.
I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone!!
Filets were great for 3 of us. One had barbecue shrimp served with mashed potatoes--heavy and lacked barbecue sauce. My salad had too much dressing. Veggies were great. It was New Year's eve early dinner and serving staff were very personable and friendly, as well as greetings from the manager--but our waitress was business-like and somewhat cold. At the end, she slapped down the check without a word--no thank-you and never a smile. We never felt rushed, but it did feel a bit "assembly-line" (especially compared to our terrific experience at Flemings the night before).
It seems that this place as well as other legacy chain steakhouses are not what they used to be very sad. I will not bore you with the details, as I am sure if you have been recently, you know what I mean. I guess we will have to rely on and support on the independents across the country.
With our children and grand children grown and on their own this year, my wife and I decided to have Christmas Dinner at Ruth's Chris in Palm Desert, CA. We were cheerfully greeted and promptly seated at our reservation time. Our server Jodi was exceptional in taking care of all our needs from cocktails/wine, salads/appetizers to our main course and side dishes. We only had one small problem - my wife's Filet was cooked medium-rare instead of medium-well. It was cooked the same as my Filet that was ordered medium-rare. This problem was immediately addressed by Jodi and the Management Staff. But, it is frustrating that a steak house of this caliber has a problem with cooking a steak more than medium.
We went here for Christmas dinner. We had a reservation and had to wait 20 minutes to be seated. The restaurant was loaded to capacity. We were seated at a make-shift table that wobbled throughout the evening smack in the centre of the dining room. The staff was trying their best to keep up but this caused them to rush. Forks and plates were not 'placed' on the table but almost 'thrown down'. When we had leftover deserts the server Devon offered to put it in a take away box and scraped it into the box carelessly. It didn't even resemble chocolate cake by the time she finished with it. Soup was almost spilled when set down so thank goodness it was only 'lukewarm' when we got it. Entrees and desserts were excellent though!
I have never had a bad experience at this restaurant. That being said the service was amazing, the staff is incredible and staff always goes beyond what is required. The steaks this time were not to Ruth's Chris standards. Four out of the five entrees were not good. Two porthourses for two were gritty and fatty. The 2 ribeyes were not special (2 different kinds). The couple that split the mignon and lobster were extremely satified. A big disappointment for me as I always push this restaurant.
We love Ruth's Chris Steak Houses and dine in them regularly - we like the fact that we can split everything and the great petite tenderloin is our favorite. The Palm Desert location follows the theme of all Ruth's Chris' with great and friendly staff. We will return the next time we are in PD.
Took my nephew and finance put for his birthday. They were blown away with the delicious food and fabulous service. We started with ahi tuna and veal Osso Buco filled raviolis. Outstanding!!!! My nephew had the bone-in filet and said he never had such a delicious filet. Same said for the regular filet and the sea bass. Sides were equally as good but the lobster Mac and Cheese we all agreed was the best. Bread pudding for dessert was really tasty. if you can get Michael for your waiter then you have the perfect meal
We love great steakhouses and there are a number of them in this area. This is a good one, but the steaks can be tough at times. I won't name other steakhouses in this area, but Ruth's Chris would be at the lower end when compared to the others. If a restaurant bills itself as a five star with prices to go along with it then there never should be inconsistency.
Dinner at Ruth's Chris is always spectacular. We each had their special meal dealio which includes the salad, side & dessert & is a crazy good deal! I had the Caesar, which was fantastic, we both had the filet & shrimp entree, which is just to die for, really. I can't say enough good things about the steaks, they are the measure by which I judge every steak I have. Our server, Jessie, was really fun & friendly & took great care of us. We will be back soon!
Food, service, ambience...all perfect. We were in Palm desert for sports tournaments for our kids and we have never gone out to dinner for thanksgiving. I have to say it was one of our best thanksgivings ever! Not hey even sent left overs home. Absolutely delicious!
