Ruth's Chris Steak House - Palm Desert Ratings and Reviews
I have eaten at Ruth’s Chris many times at several locations. The food is ALWAYS fantastic - make sure to leave room for their cheesecake which is the best I have EVER had. Unfortunately the server we had ( I think her name was Melissa) was not good at all. She has served us before and I thought maybe she was just having an off night. She was exactly the same. Zero personality and not efficient either. I can overlook one of the two but not both. I also watched her thinking maybe it was just us- nope she seemed to treat everyone with the same dead serious look on her face. She seems miserable and it tainted the experience. We wound up asking the bus boy for everything to avoid her, he was great. . Again, I’ve been a server and so I get what they go through.
3 of 4 meals were good but the 4th was terrible. They know how to cook steaks but not fish. My wife ordered Chilean sea bass and it arrived uncooked. We sent it back and when it arrived again it was the same piece of fish and still uncooked. We cancelled that order. The staff was very apologetic but it was extremely disappointing for my wife.
I always look forward to coming to Ruth Chris, always consistent....and the best tasting steak, actually the best in the valley. I enjoy the side orders especially the spicy shrimp and the sweet potato casserole. Also they have the best cheesecake ever. Staff is professional and very knowledgeable. Always nice to visit there and bring friends.
I have dined at this location for more than 10 years and last night was like dining in an entirely different restaurant. After making us wait for nearly an hour for a table despite our reservation, they sat us at a large table in the doorway to the kitchen where we were bumped into continuously. After threatening to leave, we finally were seated at a table for four, more than an hour after our reservation. At that point, things went down hill. The floor around the table was littered with food and dirty silverware and my wife's chair was covered in butter. The service was incredibly slow (so slow, in fact, that the busboys cleared our table thinking we had already had our entrees when we had only receive a plate of bread) and the restaurant then began to run out of dishes on the Thanksgiving menu. Although our server was apologetic and offered an appetizer on the house, our evening was pretty much ruined at this point. When we finally received our food, it was cold and mediocre at best. The manager did step up and pick up our dinner, however, I have serious concerns about ever returning to this location. I do not know if the restaurant is under new management or whether they were simply overwhelmed. Regardless, we had come to expect a lot more from this restaurant and were terribly disappointed that they ruined our Thanksgiving dinner.
We have frequented Ruth’s Chris restaurants in many states and have historically received excellent service and enjoyed top notch food. Unfortunately this thanksgiving, we received very poor service and were disappointed for the first time in the presentation of the food. Our issues were as follows:
1. Reservation was at 6. We were not seated until 6:45 and did not receive are starters until 7:30.
2. The delays were not well communicated to us and it was left to us to seek out the service team to get any update.
3. When the meals were delivered, it was apparent that the some of the entrees has been waiting as they were not the temperature expected.
4. When the bill arrived, the waiter had over charged us an entire meal. It was corrrected after it was pointed out.
Given this was our thanksgiving meal, it was especially disappointing to receive such poor service.
We’ve been going to Ruth’s Chris for over 15 years back home and over 3 years here in the valley. Over the years we have dined at a Ruth’s Chris likely over 200 times. While the service was very good, our experience last Friday was quite disappointing. There are numerous locals who have also expressed disappointment with the food quality, preparation, and check/receipt issues since the recent change in ownership/management. We hope the new owners/managers will recognize the issues and bring the standards back up to what we know it can be.
Ambience was really good service was attentive. Steaks were really good side dishes were excellent. Loved the roasted brussel sprouts tossed with honey and bacon and the fire roasted corn. Makes us want to make them. Cocktails were DELICIOUS. We had the New York strip and the ribeye. Perfectly cooked.
Everything was outstanding as usual, with the exception of sending back 2 filets , that were very undercooked. Creme brûlée were fantastic. We ordered 2 glasses of wine we assumed were house, and were charged $42. Did not want to make a fuss with good friends!!
We have visited this restaurant several times over the past few years. Things are beginning to change and not for the better. I ordered an ordinary cocktail and to my shock it was $15.
Second the Lyonnaise potatoes have now become fingerling potatoes which are awful.
I am sorry to experience that Ruth Chris's is now an ordinary restaurant, but still expensive.
We went to Ruth's for two birthday celebrations, my sister-in -law Marilyn and our friend Jim. We've been to Ruth's many times, mostly for special occasions like b'days and anniversaries. Service was fine but seemed a bit slow. All our food was delicious. We had Jim-lamb chops (excellent), John-rib eye steak (excellent), Marilyn-filet mignon (excellent), Karen-3 crab cakes (very good), Ronnie (filet mignon+shrimp) very good. Two b'day desserts which we appreciated. Treated very well. Look forward to next visit.
We celebrated my husbands birthday with another couple and the meal was perfect. Our waitress and server were attentive and gracious. The food was wonderful. The shrimp cocktail was perfectly prepared. But the main event...the steak was unbelievably delicious. It was cooked to perfection and the sides were quite large so we shared a few of them. Only downside was we were seated near a table with a terrible toddler and parents that didn’t handle him too well. It was distracting. Not a place for kids. All and all a great evening,
The steak was delicious as always, but our server seemed distracted and was somewhat unprofessional. He made it feel more like a meal on a cruise ship than at a fine restaurant, and our steak was not served oscar style as requested. Au gratin potatoes were amazing, however.
Ruth's Chris is one of my favorites in the desert. The food is fantastic and the service is usually amazing.
But last night, the service was so consistently bad that it totally overshadowed the amazing food. Very disappointing.
1. The servers repeatedly reached across guests to serve food instead of walking around the table to serve properly
2. All of our steaks were brought to the table while we were still enjoying our salads. We sent them back so we could finish our salads, and they brought them back 15 minutes later. One had to be sent back due to overcooking
3. At least 3 times, towards the end of dinner, wait staff stopped by to see if they could clear our plates while one of our party was still eating.
4. While we were enjoying desert, the wait staff were setting up tables in the dining room for the next day, and were doing so loudly ... silverware clanking and glasses clinking ... it seemed they wanted to send a message to us ... their last table of the evening ... that they were ready to go home.
My dinner guests had never been to Ruths' Chris and I took them there and had raved about the food and service. It was embarrassing to have had this experience with them.
When I go to a nice restaurant, I don't mind spending a bit for a wonderful meal, but I expect great service.
Sadly, Ruth's Chris missed the mark badly last night.
As always the food was incredible. The atmosphere was fantastic. The restaurant was packed so we had to wait for our table even though we had a reservation and they knew it was our anniversary, (comping our drinks would’ve been a nice touch). The service was attentive but our server was so detached that it was a bit awkward. Maybe she was having an off night. I highly recommend this place though it is the best steak ever.
I should have believed the reviews I read warning prospective diners about Ruth's Chris. It was so disappointing. I took my mother there for her 95th birthday. They seated us right next to the kitchen door so we had waiters and noise constantly. I told our waitress it was my mother's 95th birthday and she literally went away and came back and threw some happy birthday confetti on the table and walked away. I will never go there again. I would have complained right there on the spot but it would have upset my mother too much. So sad.
