Ruth's Chris Steak House - New York City - Midtown Ratings and Reviews
We visited Ruth’s based on previous experience as we dined there a number of times on a previous trip to NYC and it was superb with great service and great food.
On this occasion the food was superb and the service disgraceful.
Our server was flat out attending to other diners and his colleagues stood around in a group at the top of the steps in full view of diners, laughing and joking about while we and other diners in our section of the restaurant we’re unattended.
Our complaints were addressed with apologies, free coffees and desserts but the service did not improve at all.
Frankly we don’t go out for free anything we expect very good service for the amount of money spent.
We would not return nor do we recommend this restaurant to others.
Had an awesome time and dinner with family before a long trip to Europe to celebrate my 50th! RCS surprised me with birthday celebration after I mentioned why I was in NYC from Hawaii!! I never really celebrated in Hawaii so this they made it extra memorable and fun!
We had a pre-theater lunch at Ruth's Chris on Wednesday afternoon. We were warmly greeted upon our arrival. The service we received was excellent. We both dined from the lunch special menu which included 2 1/2 course meals. The steak was superb! The salads and sides were also delicious. We both thoroughly enjoyed our desserts, seasonal chocolate bark. We love the ambiance of this restaurant! Warm and romantic!
As always, we are looking forward to our next visit.
Went before theater on our anniversary. When we were seated they put celebratory confetti on our table :) Food is always delicious. Extremely nice waiter. Service was great. They even gave us dessert as an anniversary gift. Have been here many times before. Always good.
I had stuffed mushrooms, mozzarella salad and crab cakes. They were all a total disappointment. The mushrooms were not cooked and the stuffing was liquid. The crab cakes were like a paste and I did not feel the crab meat. The mozzarella salad was loaded with balsamic! The dessert ( cremr brûlée) was excellent, but this was the only one. I did not get the impression of a high class restaurant and I regret spending so much money for an less than average meal.
This is the second time I've been to a Ruth's Chris restaurant. The first time was in Calgary AB. It was great. I wasn't sure how it would translate to mid-town NY. Never fear. It was just as good. It is expensive but the food is worth it. Because of the cost, for us it will be an occasional stop but we'll look forward to it each time.
The petite fillet was cooked to perfection (medium rare - warm red in the center, then bright pink and a wonderfully flavored finish) and the creamed spinach was excellent. While not as crisp as I would have expected the shoestring potatoes were good.
Ruth Chris has never disappointed my guest or myself. From the introduction of your server to the last bite, all is done in a very unintrusive manner. My personal favorite is the lamb chops which are tender and flavorful. The Riesling wine is a homage to the Gods of Mosel.
Sad to say the experience this time around was bad...not sure who messed our meals up server when ordering or chef. Here's the thing even when things came out wrong we tried to talk to the guy passing out plates who wouldn't talk to us - we could have saved him and the kitchen several steps by just switching somethings among ourselves with no issue - but they send it back and don't fix you a new plate no they then over cook your original and re-serve a 2nd class meal. Server was nice but just an unpleasant dining experience.
