Ruth's Chris Steak House - New York City - Midtown Ratings and Reviews
We arrived an hour early and ended up being seated within 10 min. The service was impeccable and the steaks were tender, flavorful and cooked just right. Although we were full we couldn’t resist their homemade cheesecake and thank goodness we didn’t. It was incredible. Make sure you have a reservation though. NY is crazy busy
The food and service here was excellent.
The servers were great and the food was amazing from the starter all the way down to the dessert. We were celebrating my wife's birthday and they put a little confetti on the table and brought out a special dessert for her. I would definitely return again.
I’m a frequent visitor @ Ruth Chris but Friday proved to me that they don’t no how to handle a holiday rush. Several ppl was complaining about reservations Times , food, dirty glasses , etc. Overall me & my wife’s food came out good but the way the place was operating it was a complete mess , our waiter was fantastic
We’ve been to many Ruth’s criss across the us. This one was not up to standard. We were seated 50 minutes late. We felt that the management could care less. This is an expensive restaurant and there is no excuse for not honoring a reservation. Open table should warn their members to avoid this place.
our Table was ready at the exact time of our reservations. We didn’t really like our table’s location - near a busy waiter’s corridor, but were happy to be seated. Our steaks were great except for one over done fillet. The mashed potatoes were not anyone’s favorites. However, the dessert was to die for.
We had a lovely dinner but service was not good. Once we finished eating, we waited 10 mins for the waiter to come offer dessert. Once given those menus, we waited 20 more mins with no service-all without drinks. Finally we asked another waiter to get our check for us. Food was incredible but for this money, service should be better.
Dîner romantique pour l’anniversaire de ma chérie. Vraiment formidable ! Service de qualité avec même une petite surprise à notre arrivée et notre départ (décorations d’anniversaire sur la table et un cheesecake d’anniversaire pour elle). Au top!
I come to this Ruth's Chris quite often because I am lucky enough to work across the street. We are inundated with so many fancy and expensive steak restaurants in a 3 block span. I've tried them all. But this is the only one I keep coming back to. The warmth of the people and surroundings, the service and the food has got me hooked. There is no other place like this that checks all the boxes. I was lucky enough to have Mark as my server. Everything is always perfect when he's in command. I get greeted by Nick, who always has a smile. And then there is Mario, who always gives me a big hug like family. I truly love this place and all the people in it. Don't miss out when you visit the Big Apple or if you work or live in the area, this should be your go to place for excellence. They make a mean burger.
I had the tomahawk, creamed spinach, mushrooms and fries.
Mushrooms were excellent.
Tomahawk started off good but ended up being overcooked even though I got medium rare. Probably due to the hot plate. Some parts were way too charred leading to two extremely unpleasant bites.
Spinach and fries were mediocre.
Wine and dessert were good.
Service was attentive when it happened. We found ourself waiting for service a lot which is unexpected at this type of establishment.
The steaks are outstanding. The 3 potato dishes I've tried over a couple of visits are only okay. The seating is tight, making it uncomfortable and often ducking or being bumped by people walking by. The service the other night was particularly slow. Our waiter was not very attentive but friendly.
Typically I have a great experience here. I got the filet,Caesar salad, and the potatoes au gratin. The food was amazing however our service was lacking. First our table was shaky and they tried to screw bit back together while there were drinks in it spilling the drinks. Then our waitress was MIA. This is the first time I have ever had an experience that was like this at Ruth Chris.
We have been to many Ruth Chris locations and this was by far the absolute worst. My parents were in town and we came to celebrate my birthday. My mom called before to let them know it was my birthday as most locations decorate the table, give a card, etc. None of that was done here. Their menu was slightly different than most (like no French Onion soup), which was fine. However, one of our steaks was ordered medium and came out so well done that it was black inside. We sent it back and they agreed it was way over cooked and brought out a new steak. This one was so raw it wasn't even close to edible, even if someone likes their steak a bit raw. We sent it back at that point and didn't even want another steak after how repulsed we were by the 2 previous steaks. They then came out with the "surprise" birthday dessert, in which the waiter stood over the table with an unlit dessert, lit the candle and goes who's birthday is it, almost with disgust. Overall it was way below any expectations we would have expected and a terrible restaurant.
Service was not as great as usual. The salad appetizer did not arrive. Dinner arrived and they offered to take back the food in order to bring out the salad... we said no, to just skip the salad. While eating our main entree, they still brought the salad anyway. We sent it back. The food was great and the steaks were cooked to perfection. Luckily, they made up for everything by sending us a delicious dessert.
This was my fourth Thanksgiving eating at this location and my last. They either over booked or were understaffed, and were blaming it on the customers staying too long. We had to wait 45 minutes past our reservation time. As people were leaving they indicated they were delayed over an hour for a 3:30 reservation. When seated, there were open tables for 15 minutes, and people waiting 20 minutes for the cheesecake and ice cream dessert. Then hearing the waitress apologize for the delay. That’s why people were taking so long. Unacceptable!
If you're part of a national chain of steak restaurants, you've got to act like you didn't just open for business last week. It was Thanksgiving evening. We had made our reservations at Ruth's Chris Midtown (Michelangelo Hotel location) weeks ago. What did they go and do? They kept us waiting for over 30 minutes for our table....how simple, gracious and professional would it have been to offer all of the diners they made wait that evening a complimentary glass of wine or cocktail as the wait progressed beyond 15 or 20 minutes....and especially since with huge crowd at the door, they knew they were running into scheduling or double-booking problems of THEIR OWN MAKING. Ruth's Chris on 51st Street in Manhattan then proceeded to under cook and then, upon its return to the kitchen, overcooked a filet mignon (again, as if it were the chef's first night learning how to grill a very popular cut of steak) . And finally, adding insult to injury, they served a couscous side floating in grease! All things considered, for what should have been a festive, delicious Thanksgiving meal, we were very, very disappointed and depressed by such a poor performance. Now, to their credit they comped us on one of the meals but all the things leading up to bringing an overdone filet mignon just ruined the entire occasion; quite frankly, we wouldn't have paid for the meal if they hadn't comped us. This is not what you've come to expect from any Ruth's Chris establishment much less on a important holiday like Thanksgiving in New York City. Do not TAKE reservations if you cannot honor them. Make it up to your customers if you expect them to ever come back. Learn how to properly broil a filet mignon that's 2.5 inches thick to medium rare specifications. Otherwise, don't offer it. It was a shame what happened to us and others that night.
Excellent food in lovely ambiance. Even though a steakhouse they do a great job with fish and seafood. Sides are delicious, especially creamed spinach and sweet potato casserole. Recommend eating in one of the smaller dining rooms for more intimate environment, as well as more quiet.
Ruth Chris is my favorite restaurant, so imagine how disappointed I am at the service I received today, Thanksgiving, of all days. I made a 4:45 reservation to be able to have an early dinner. It started with the host. We arrived about 435, 440. The host tells me it will be about 5-10 minutes. After 15 minutes I went back to the host, who told me it would be another 5 minutes. It took about 25 minutes to be seated. People who arrived after us, were being seated quicker than we did. We get seated upstairs, where we were forgotten in a corner. Our server was not attentive to our needs. After finally getting our drinks, he never came back to our table to check on us. It took more than an hour to get our food. The steaks were not cooked as requested, the plates weren't even sizzling by time the food was brought up. My son's plate was cold. Never received my salad. Just poor service. Understanding it's the holiday, but we had a simple order and people with groups our size or larger were eating long before we were. In fact, they were already done by time we finally got our food. When we complained to the first manager, he tried to justify the delay by saying we were a party of 6. Our server said it was because of the one person that ordered a well done steak. The second manager came over and just said sorry, it was a colossal fail and offered us dessert and we still hadn't even gotten our entrees. It took the server just as long to split the check on 3 credit cards. Just a mess. I will never go back to Ruth Chris for any holiday. Very disappointed
