Ruth's Chris Steak House - Lahaina Ratings and Reviews
We always enjoy the Ruth's Chris restaurants, but this time we did not have good luck. My wife's filet mignon was a poor cut (with a line of fat and connective tissue running right through the middle of it) and was overcooked (she ordered medium rare, it came medium). My rib eye steak on the other hand was cooked medium rare as requested. We complained, the manager looked at her steak and agreed that it was far too done. They did not charge us for her steak. In addition, the shoestring fries described on the menu as "crispy" were instead "chewy" so they replaced them with better fries. This restaurant can do better, and have done better before. But there's no excuse for a lousy $49 filet. We'll be back, but we hope that they fix the problem in their kitchen before we return.
Ruth's Chris is my favorite place for an awesome steak and you can count on it's consistency no matter which restaurant you dine at. I was not disappointed last night when celebrating my birthday, the steaks were wonderful. My only issue was that I felt rushed, it wasn't as relaxing an atmosphere as usual.
We ordered the porkchops they were a bit underdone as we ordered med well. My wife ordered the "stuffed" chicken which was not stuffed at all, but did have melted cheese in it. Which oozed out as soon as it was cut. The piece if chicken was small and was dry, drenched in butter. We will give it another try, but definitely not for the chicken.
My experience here was disappointing. I've had some incredible dining experiences for far less money. There is no way the service or food quality can justify their prices. It was quiet and the service was very good. However, the cost was outrageous. $50+ for an a la cart steak, $14 for a baked potato? I definitely won't dine here again. I've had far better meals.
Excellent meal. Lovely decor. Celebrating a birthday. Wine choice was excellent. We enjoyed Franks Familt Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon. Our steaks as always were fabulous and Cooked to perfection. Side potato gratin & asparagus were a perfect accompaniment.
It was very late when we finally arrived. There was only one other patron in the entire restaurant but without batting an eye, the staff seated us and took care of us like any other time. We would have never guessed they wanted to clean up and close soon! Very professional, very friendly, good food and good drinks. Will absolutely be back to Ruth's Chris, Lahaina
The steak that I ordered was cooked to perfection! The brussels sprouts we ordered were not cooked enough, they were tough. My friend that came along she ordered fish, she was very satisfied and had the same comment on the vegetable.
I visit this location everything I come to Maui and I would recommend it to friends. The service was great!
Food was exceptional, as always. We had the NY strip, baked potato, creamed spinach and oysters Rockefeller. At the end of the meal, our busboy dumped a full glass of ice water onto my mother-in-law's lap as he was clearing the table. Her pants and top were soaked. The manager comped our entire check. We didn't demand that, they just offered. Great response to an unfortunate accident. This is how a restaurant should handle a situation when something goes wrong. We always love the food here and will definitely be back. The wait staff were attentive and awesome.
Staff was aloof and didn't make us feel like a valued guest. The medium-rare steak meal arrived well done. A disappointing 25th year wedding anniversary and New Year's Eve dinner.
While waiting for our table we sat at the bar and had a glass of wine and beer. The bartender was not engaging, just asked for our order, brought it and then set the bill in front of us. He did not interact other than that. Saw the credit card, processed payment and put the receipt down in front of us for signature. When we were being seated at our table, which was a very nice small booth, we had to take our own drinks with us when normally the hostess takes care of this. Our waiter did not engage with us either, other than the obligatory communication. He did ask if our meal was okay, which it was not. My husband ordered a filet, medium-rare and it arrived well done. This is an upscale steak house. How does this happen? Our server apologised and removed the steak. We then had to sit and wait, while eating my dinner alone, for my husband's meal. When the steak arrived, it was rare, not medium rare but better than well done and a nice cut of steak. My husband gave it an 8/10. The busboy came by a couple of times and he was engaging, funny and made conversation with us, making the evening more enjoyable. We expected this from our server. It was our 25th year wedding anniversary and New Year's Eve and not once did our server make us feel special or appreciated or ask about how our evening was going or what we were doing after dinner. When you choose a specific restaurant for a special occasion and are prepared to pay a considerable amount for the evening (our bill was $200, which only included one glass of wine each), you expect it to be a positive and memorable evening, which it was not.
We decided to dine at Ruth Chris on the day before New Year's Eve. Several months ago we dined there with a group and the meal was exquisite. Tonite the meal was good but not excellent. The Oysters Rockefeller appetizer came on a bed of salt - regular table salt not the usual rock salt. So the oysters were very, very salty when they fell into the salt while picking them out of the shell. We have never seen Oysters Rockefeller on anything but rock salt so curious as to why finely granulated table salt was used this time? Also, the Caesar salad had a very mild dressing, not the usual garlicky taste that we desire. The petite filet was good, only a bit of gristle. Best part of the meal was asparagus and the molten chocolate lava cake.
For a steakhouse and a Ruth Chris we were very disappointed in the quality and temperature of the filet we ordered. Medium well was cooked to a crisp well done, and the steak looked even worse. They corrected it, but then the steak was rare. The ambiance needs a bit of work as well. But service was lovely.
Absolutely horrible service. It took 2:45 to eat dinner after we sat at the table. Understaffed kitchen, waiter went missing for over an hour and no one else would even look at us, let along stop be the table. Had to get up from our table to go to the bar to get another glass of wine. Steak arrived over cooked. Absolutely terrible experience and every customer had the same experience. New management, new kitchen staff, new waiters are needed. Avoid this place at all costs!
The service was suburb, however the food took over 2 hours to arrive, we arrived on time for our reservation and had to wait at least 20+ minutes. When our food finally arrived my steak which was ordered medium was rare and my sons which was ordered medium rare was medium well. The server tried his best to make it all better.
Ruth's Chris has restored my faith in humanity! (And food in Maui)
When visiting Maui with family I always wrestle with the local restaurants and the limited selection on the island. Coming from a spoiled Southern CA dining scene and frequenting trips to Vegas you could say I have a pretentious tongue. Having said that Ruth's Chris never ceases to blow me away. From the presentation of the oyster Rockefeller (served engulfed in flames), to the tasty Caesar salads, bread pudding (desert), 500 degree plates with crafted sizzling steaks, they hit a home run every time.
The restaurant is in Lahaina 30 ft from the ocean. I recommend dining right at 5:00 at a window adjacent table for both the early bird special and spectacular sunset view.
Service in Maui is generally hit or miss, mostly due to the speed of the island. But Ruth's Chris brings LA service to an island in desperate need.
I dined at this restaurant twice on this last trip (10 days) and my only regret is not eating there one more time!
Make the trip to Ruth's Chris, you'll be glad you did!
