Ruth's Chris Steak House - Kohala Coast Ratings and Reviews
I've been to different Ruth's Chris restaurants and I would have to say this was my least favorite experience. I felt my filet was too peppery and my lobster was over cooked. Both my husband and son were very happy with their meals. The aid dishes were wonderful and the white chocolate bread pudding with the chambord cream sauce was amazing. Our waiter was very attentive and pleasant.
We've been to Ruth's Chris restaurants many times in many different cities. Food and service were consistently very good. However, this was a terrible experience. We were taking friends who had never been to a Ruth's Chris, and they probably won't go back. The veal chop, ordered medium rare, was raw. The filet, ordered medium, was cooked through, no pink at all. Our waitress was pleasant, but hard to find when we needed her. I think there may be a problem with many places in this resort being understaffed, so service has not been very good in many places. Despite being on the Big Island for a month, we won't return to Ruth's Chris Steak House.
This was our first time here and the food was amazing! Our server Doug was friendly and knowledgeable. The only thing that was negative was the hostess (short dark hair). She didnt even look at us, no eye contact, no smile, nothing. Not a good first impression. But the seating hostess (blonde) was very friendly.
We have gone to Ruth’s Chris for years here on the Mauna Lani property as well as other cities. But the meal the other night was terrible. It took nearly 1 1/2 hours to get our meal and when it came my husbands steak was raw inside. My husband also asked for some onions to be chopped up on the top of his salad and they came sliced. It might seem like a minor detail but when you pay this much for a meal, you want it right. We were very disappointed and wonder if we will go back this trip.
Service was exceptional, but some of the food missed the mark. Steak was somehow perfect on temp, but mealy. Maybe cooked too long in sous vide? Not sure what happened, but this seems the most likely, as there were only faint grill marks on an otherwise unappetizing grey steak. Based on what we had a couple of days ago, I would not go back. Really too bad, as the service was crazy great.
Terrible and rude hostesses. We had an 8:00pm reservation and we were told to wait for another 10mins... Sterile and staged experience. Everything was done as if everyone was following a script. Food was good but when you pay $300-$400 for a meal for two you expect everything (even the little details) to be PERFECT! Huge disappointment - we will not be returning.
Service was very poor. No one checked on us until the meal was delivered by someone other than our server and we were in need of a beverage with our meal. The $57 filet was over cooked (asked for medium rare and it was done well done and thus very dry) but decided not to ruin the evening by sending it back. However at the end of the meal the server asked how our meal was. When I did finally mention that the steak was over cooked the server just looked at me and walked away. No I am sorry, what can we do to make it up for you. Just walked away and brought us the check. Will not return!
Everything was excellent! The food came out before my salad was served, so they took back the dinner and waited for me to finish my salad. Noah our waiter was excellent!! Very friendly and attentive!! To top it off, we had Mud pie which was over the top delicious! Great food, great crab cakes and steaks!!! I would highly recommend!!!
25th Anniversary Dinner 2017. One steak came out totally incorrect, a petite well done filet instead of a med rare full size filet. This was quickly corrected with an apology. The other two, both ribeyes, were both closer to medium rare when they were supposed to be a medium and a medium well. Even with the steaks not being as requested, they were still excellent , tender and flavorful.
I was really looking forward to my first meal at Ruth Chris. And was very disappointed in my 58.00 ribeye. More than half of it was fat and the meat was undercooked and tuff I wish I had read reviews before I ordered it. It seems like I am not the only one that got a “fatty ribeye “. I don’t understand why they keep serving chunks of fat like this with all the bad reviews. It ruined our anniversary dinner.
We asked for the steak w/no butter due to a dairy allergy. It came to the table looking like it was boiled. I’m sure they were lazy and put it in the oven. Then we said, where is the Char? Oh, you didn’t say you wanted it charted, said the waiter! He took it away and in a flash it was returned w/a burnt crust. It tasted like the chemical they use in an acetylene torch, which they probably used to make the char. It was also well done. We won’t be returning.
