Ruth's Chris Steak House - Indianapolis Ratings and Reviews
Our waiter was amazing. He asked us if we were here for a special occasion which we were. My fiance recently received a promotion. Our steak was melt in your mouth delicious. Our waiter knew when to stop by and when not to interrupt. At the end of our dinner, he brought out chocolate covered strawberries that spelled out "congratulations". It definitely made our night.
I just wanted to drop a quick line about our (my) dining experience on Saturday. Let me start by saying there was (4) of us and everything was fantastic other than my steak. I believe we had 2 fillets, 1 crab cake (an an entree) and I had the rib-eye. The place looked fantastic as usual and the staff was also top notch. I wish I could remember the name of our waiter because he was excellent. Again, please let me reiterate that the drinks, the other 3 entrees and the sides were all excellent. I ordered the rib-eye for 2 reasons. One, its always my favorite cut of meat and 2 because over the last month and a half or so I was able to dine at several of the local steak house''s so just for me, I wanted to compare. This is where it went down hill. I was brought the first rib-eye and it was good/not great and actually had quite of bit of gristle (not fat) on it. The flavor was merely average. Our waiter asked how it was and I was honest "it was just okay". There was not a lot wrong but for Ruth Chris and 50.00 I expected much much more. He swiftly took my steak and asked to let him make it right. I agreed. A lady manager, I presume, then came to my table and assured me they would fix the issue and that she would check back on me. She did not come back. My new rib-eye arrived and to be 100 percent honest it was basically the same steak with less gristle. Again, good not great. It just didn't have that burst of flavor that you, at least I, expect from a top level steak house. I felt like I could have achieved this flavor profile with a good cut of meat from Meijer and my backyard grill. I was at Red 2 weeks ago, also had the ribeye and in just my humble opinion, there was no comparison. At a 160.00 bill I guess I just expected much more from Ruth Chris.
We have dinned at Ruth Chris many times. We live in Chicago but have family in Indy. Most of the time our experience has been nice. I do believe they serve one of the best steaks however on this night, everything was average to below average. We had at 9:15pm reservation so decided to have a drink in the bar. The bar area was a mess and the place was packed. Getting a drink was nearly impossible. The restaurant was also freezing cold. We were sat in the room closest to the door and were so cold we ate with our coats on. I had the surf and turf. The lobster tail was small and my steak was over-cooked. Even the shrimp cocktail seemed like smaller pieces of shrimp and it was filled with cabbage and hardly any cocktail sauce. Our creamed spinach came out luke warm at best. I’ve definitely had better dinners at Ruth Chris but not that night. We walked away feeling we should have spent our $150 at another place.
We went to Ruth’s for Christmas Eve dinner. Our family has been doing a special dinner for the last several years. It was a cold evening and we were warmly greeted by the valet service and the hostess. We had a great waitress was very knowledgeable and a lot of fun. We had melt in your mouth steaks and two delicious sides. We ended our evening with fresh raspberries with vanilla ice cream and we shared a piece of carrot cake. I would definitely recommend the carrot cake. On our way out we were thanked for dining with them and wished a Merry Christmas.
We will definitely return again.
Will definitely not go back, calamari were over cooked tasted like crispy rubber, steak was tender but was overloaded with butter ... when I took first bite I burned my tongue. The crab cakes Well all bread crumbs .. you could NOT taste any of the fish. The osso buco ravioli well I could not taste any of the osso buco and the ravioli was over cooked. The Sweet potatoes casserole was delicious but my plate was so hot that it was not enjoyable to eat. I would choose a different restaurant next time ... will definitely not come back. This was my anniversary gift to my wife and she disliked it.
Did not like location of our table in the bar , was very cramped against the window and a wall and was loud.
I think for a high end restaurant the tables should have more room to get around. Have been there many times and was the worse experience. Service was not as good either
Of all the steakhouses in Indy, this has to be the worse value. If the prices drop...it would be ok. However, the steak tasted like something we could make at home. Does not compare to the competitors in the area. I had a $16.50 old fashioned drink...it tasted great= but why would it be over $12?? really?
I cannot recommend this place to anyone...costs are too high for food that wasn't anything special...and the sides were bland. Regular cheesecake was subpar... but the chocolate mouse cheesecake was the best.
If this had been my only trip to this particular Ruth's Chris, I might not be as eager to return - here is my 3 day review.
I booked reservations for 3 nights in a row for business guests and the first night (Wednesday Dec 6) was spectacular. Our server on Wednesday (Sean) was perfectly on point with every aspect of service. We were seated in the dining room at a nice table and my guests were perfectly taken care of throughout the entire meal. From cocktails at the bar before being seated to walking back out the front door after dinner, everything was exceptional.
On Thursday I was unable to attend, but gave my reservation to clients who reported back that the experience was just the same - excellent as usual.
Friday night I had a 6:45 reservation and we were promptly seated in the bar area by the front door. I now know to request another table location if possible. The table was incredibly cramped and we had to move it in order for one of our party to take his seat. Being close to the door on a cold night is also undesirable as large groups come and go holding the doors open for each other. The bar area is great for drinks, but with the loud conversations and piano fighting for attention it is nearly impossible to have a low key business dinner. Our server on Friday was not exceptional in any way - definitely did not do anything wrong, but also not what would be expected at this location.
I will certainly return again and again as I have for a number of years, but this week was a 2/3 rather than a perfect score for each visit. The above star ratings are strictly for dining on 12/8/17.
Excellent as usual for this location. Our server Sean did a fantastic job of taking care of my guests. This was the first of 3 consecutive nights of reservations that I made for business dinners during the week and by far the best. Outstanding food and service from all the staff we encountered on Wednesday night.
Why anyone would go to Ruth's Chris Steakhouse with St. Elmo's right down the street baffles me. The steaks were good but all other items were ala carte and not exceptional. The sizzle platters with butter were interesting but the steak could have used more seasoning. Chopped salad we split was too small to split. The has brown casserole was interesting and was large enough to split. The dining room where we ate was loud, too loud to carry on a conversation. The wine carried a higher premium than most comparable steak houses.
