Ruth's Chris Steak House - Fairfax Ratings and Reviews
Service was awful. Steaks were undercooked and when sent back they charred them. Drinks took forever to come out. We couldn't even order dessert because service was so slow. My son had a crappy birthday dinner. We won't be going back to this Ruth's chris.
This visit was by far the best dining experience we have experienced at this location in quite awhile. The service was perfect and the food was fresh and prepared exactly to our request. We will definitely make this our neighborhood go-to restaurant again!!!!
Big disappointment was steak was not cooked to order. We sent back twice and the second time it looked like one of the Game of Thrones dragons torched it. We were celebrating a birthday and unfortunately the birthday girls steak was destroyed. And she had to sit at the table while the rest of us had to eat our steaks or they would get cold.
Table next to us sent their steaks back too.
When you are at a top steak house, the preparation should be perfect.
We love Ruth Chris but it will be a while before we go back. Painful to spend $500 on a meal and not feel awesome about it after.
Have been to this location several times. Primary servers may have been stretched a little thin because ours forgot about us several times. Most of our service came from the water guy or the support staff. At several occasions I smelled sewer/bathroom fumes waft through the area. I haven't sat in the back section of the restaurant before so maybe it's closer to the plumbing. My son was hoping to have the kids portion of the stuffed chicken breast he has had at other locations, but this one only offered a "plain, bone-in breast" - since the children's selections are not advertised, you won't be too sure of what's available when you go. As usual, the quality of the food and preparation were excellent.
Went for a business dinner on a Monday night. Asked for a quiet table away from the crowd so we could talk and were seated in the back away from others, as requested. Service was excellent - waiter came by at the right times. Pacing of the food was also excellent - didn't feel rushed. Food was very good. My guest had the NY strip Oscar style. He enjoyed it. My only comment is that the "jumbo" crab cake on his steak wasn't so jumbo (and had some pieces of shell in it). Also would prefer that the Oscar style be with plain backfin crab meat and not a crab cake - especially at these prices. But that's a relatively minor point. Good selection of wines by the glass. Overall, a very nice - but expensive - dinner.
Unfortunately there was a intoxicated women seated near us who was talking very loudly and using the f--- word a lot. We were going to ask to move to a different table but our food came out so we just stayed but I am surprised she was continued to be served more drinks.
Ruth Chris is always excellent! This occasion was up to their usual standard of excellence.
The waiter took the time to research the pronunciation of our last name and got it right on the first attempt. Steaks were excellent as always and the sides were also. This place never disappoints.
we've eaten here several times and have always enjoyed our meals. Unfortunately, this time they didn't pay attention to their timing so they brought out our steaks before we were even done with our salads. That resulted to them being sent back to be kept warm while we finished and when they returned the plates were scalding and our steaks were now over cooked. Very surprising given the quality of restaurant Ruth's usually is.
The staff's attention was also a bit slow tonight, but we weren't in a big hurry so it wasn't a problem for us.
I was a little disappointed because I've eaten here before and had good food but it had been a while. I got the roasted brussels sprouts as a side and they were all burnt and tasted awful. The crab cakes were very good tho. The asparagus was entirely boring, basically the same thing you'd cook at home. my husband said the ny strip was overcooked but had good flavor. Scalloped potatoes and Mac n cheese were good. The waitstaff was all very friendly and very cordial. However when I mentioned my kid didn't like her food they just jokingly offered to eat it themselves. Also I got a harvest salad to start and was later shocked when I found out that little starter salad was nearly 600 calories. I'm scared to think how bad the whole meal probably is to eat for you. Overall I've had better meals there as this one was generally overlooked and bland (minus the crab cakes which were wonderful).
Not for any reason, but had not been to Ruth's Chris Steak House in many years. It was a wonderful experience to reconnect. The food was excellent - my steak cooked perfectly and just as I requested - medium rare. I'm not a fan of creamed spinach so I asked the server if I could get sautéed spinach instead. She offered to check with the chef and came back with an affirmative response. My friend and I both wanted a baked potato and the server recommended that we split one since they were so large (1 lb). Our server (neglected to ask her name) was professional, knew the menu, made helpful suggestions. She checked periodically to see if we needed anything but was not intrusive. There was no sense of being hurried and so we had about a 2-hour leisurely meal with good conversation, great food enjoyed with a couple glasses of Merlot.
The only negative about the entire experience was that I ate way too much but I enjoyed every morsel. Ruth's is now back on my radar and although it's not a place to frequent weekly, I will definitely not be absent for such a long period of time again.
The steak was excellent. I would come back for the steak alone. The flavor was to die for. The sides were really good too, but they're sold separately. If you're on a budget but would like to experience this restaurant without breaking the bank, I would recommend sharing one 16 oz steak and 1 side between 2 people, because their sides are pretty big.
The wine is extremely overpriced. We bought a bottle of red wine (2013 Graffigna Melbec) for $51, only to find out that the same bottle is sold for $9.99 on the market. We should have Googled it before buying it, so beware of these crazy markups!
We're always pleased with how well this chain does. I had a "classic" combination, Butter Lettuce BLT Salad, 6-ounce Filet & Shrimp, and Toasted Coconut & Pineapple Bread Pudding
Rum Crème Anglaise, Macadamia chocolate bark (Yes, that's one dessert!). My wife had the Petite Filet & Shrimp. I substituted a baked potato for the standard side (cost $5 extra--exorbitant!) What we did is share my salad, baked potato, and dessert. They split the salad and baked potato for us at the table--a nice touch. We had glasses of Pahlmeyer red wine. Service was extremely attentive without being overbearing. Bread was OK, Firebird's for example is better. I got six shrimp with my dish and my wife got three with hers--very nice large size. Filets were cooked just as we asked for. All in all a very nice dinner.
Steaks to die for. Service is always so professional and they are always right there for refills but they don't Invade your space. Salads and desserts are great without Carmel. Lol. I am always bragging to people how great a restaurant it is. I like the one in Fairfax the best. I am a loyal patron of theirs. All their servers are great and Abbie and the Host made me feel so welcome for my birthday dinner!
Only issue was Open Table reservation system. Online system said there was no availability from 6-745. Walked in just to check getting in earlier at 630 and place was half empty. Hostess immediately sat us to the delight of my hungry customers. Loved the meal.
The service is always great at Ruth's Chris, and usually the food is as well. This time however... the food didn't live up to past experiences. I ordered a Cowboy Ribeye that I recall being about $50 dollars. It was cooked to medium; which I asked for, but the texture of the steak wasn't great, and the flavor was nothing worth remembering. A big, juicy, flavorful ribeye is something that I REALLY look forward to, but was seriously let down this time around. I expected much more for a $50 steak. In the future, I will just grab a nice ribeye from the butcher and grill it myself (for so much less).
It was, from start-to-finish, spectacular! Special shout-out to Brian, a highly skilled waiter, and his new colleague, Alex, whom Brian was training. This was a very special occasion dining experience - my son had graduated from VCU - so while this was very expensive ($$$$), it was intended as a special night out, and it delivered! Brian knew why we were there from the notes, & congratulated Stephen, my son, on his graduation from VCU in graphic design! YES, he was that specific!! The tabletop was strewn with celebratory confetti, all grad themed. AND, Ruth's Chris was running a special in which grads eat free (every bit helps)!! Our every need was met before we asked, Brian was polite, attentive & perfect - & the table chosen was ideal, perfectly accommodating our group of 7 - in high style. We are just very grateful to Ruth's Chris and to Brian for making this an incredibly special and memorable evening. I can't say enough about Brian - super skilled, incredibly polished, made the experience outstanding!!! Special kudos to Brian!!!
I have been to at least four Ruth Chris restaurants over the years and the Fairfax, VA location has been the most disappointing. Food was average for the price and portions have gone down in size since my last visit which was in the Midlothian, VA location. For the money I expected more and did not receive it here. Asked for more bread twice and never received it. We were placed next to a window and had to watch people on the outside seating area eating their sandwiches. Just did not have the feel for a special occasion that I hoped for in celebration of my granddaughter's graduation from George Mason University.
Great place to eat on a regular day, but they can't seem to handle a busy holiday. Wife and I eat here about once a month and it's always great. We went for dinner on mother's day and everything was off. Everything from waiting for our table even though we had a reservation to our filets being prepared wrong and being a little tough and even the service was off a step from usual. No one did anything that was particularly wrong, but it seems everyone was working a normal Sunday afternoon medium pace and forgot to step up their efforts for the busy holiday. Will we return? Of course. Am I going to cancel our father's day reservation? Absolutely.
