Ruth's Chris Steak House - Fairfax Ratings and Reviews
This restaurant is wonderful for any special occasion. The food is always very good steak house fare, just what we wanted to have. We all had some sort of petit filet, with some having shrimp along with it. The steaks were cooked just the way we each liked them. We all shared the sides, and the french fries were excellent, just the way you get them in France (and the way my mother cooked them from scratch - extra nostalgia points! ) We also had great service. We will be back .
Food is usually good, but this time our steak was undercooked. Basically, raw. The lobster Mac and cheese which is usually my favorite side dish was cold. The mushrooms were good though. I go here about 4x a year and this was the first time i’ve had a bad meal, so i’ll give them another try. It’s a pretty pricey meal so they should really work on making sure there are no off nights.
We celebrated our engagement at Ruth’s Chris tonight. We’ve done here several times and absolutely love the ambiance and service. As always, the service was impeccable and the food was perfect. We had a great time! Thank you again for making tonight an unforgettable and enjoyable evening!!!
Disappointed again at Ruth's. Been a longtime fav for special occasions but the quality and experience has greatly diminished. Went on a Sunday night, pulled into the valet stand and had to wait 10 to 15 mins for a valet to show up. Finally inside, we asked for a window table and had to wait, even though the restaurant was practically empty. Once seated we were greeted and served bread and water, then gave our orders. Both of us got 6 oz fillets with sides, and my fillet was stringy and tough as it was on an earlier visit. We never saw the water guy again even though our water glasses were empty half way through the meal. As an experienced diner having eaten in some of the finest restaurants all over the world, I know I could have called the server over and she probably would have offered to bring another fillet and filled the waters, but this was a special night and I didn't want to ruin the experience any further by causing a stir. At these prices service and food should be first rate, perfect every time without having to ask the waitstaff and kitchen to do their jobs. We won't be back.
We had a mediocre experience at best. The steaks weren't particularly great. I've had much better steaks before. I suspect it was just this location that combined an awkward, clumsy and seemingly untrained staff experience (not one particular perosn, just all around) with food that smelled of burnt butter and tasted average at best. As far as Ruth's Chris go, we were provided with a VERY sub-optimal experience at this establishment. Avoid this location at all costs. Quite literally any other steak house in the area will give you a steak of similar quality.
My wife and I both had filet and shrimp combinations, one the RC Classic dinner that comes with choice of appetizer and side dish, then set dessert. The carrot soup was excellent, as were the filets and shrimp. One real irritant--my wife wanted to substitute a baked potato (plain with butter only on the side) instead of one of the other set choices for the RC Classic dinner. It's a five dollar upcharge!!! Given the cost of the dinner--$44.95--it seems way out of line to charge five dollars more for a simple baked potato substitution. Others had the Korean salmon, ribeye, creamed spinach, Caesar salad, and mashed potatoes. All were deemed great.
Aly and Brian waited on us and they were both perfect! Always there when we needed them but never intrusive. Aly overheard me tell my husband that I forgot to ask that they not use butter when cooking my steak. Since it was my fault, I wasn't going to say anything. Aly brought out another steak for me in very short order. Food was delicious as always but the service was what really impressed us on this visit.
The staff called to verify our reservation and occasion for the dinner. Upon arrival we received a Happy Anniversary greeting and our table was decorated for our anniversary to include a card signed by the entire staff. Matt was an excellent and knowledgeable server. Our steaks were cooked to order and delicious. The serving of mashed potatoes is enormous. Our server made a dessert recommendation and offered to pay for it. We took him up on that, picture included.
The dining experience was fine. The quality of the food was not good. You would think for the prices you would have a least one decent vegetable to chose from. I love veggie but creamed spinach and cheap succotash is not a great choice. The beets salad had so much vinegar on it that it was like taking a mouth full of vinegar each bite. What was with the apple pie that looked like it was half eaten with a ball of ice cream. I took my husband there for a steak and that's what he enjoyed.
Regretably this was not as nice as we had anticipated. We have eaten at this and several other RCSHs over the years and find them very inconsistent from location to location. All in all we weren't that impressed. The steaks were good and cooked properly - but lacked any real 'taste'. The side vegies were good. The apple pie dessert was rather anemic. The caprese salad was really really good. The ambiance and ability to talk to our friends was very nice - but we all found the waiters a bit intrusive. i know they were trying to be attentative - but it seems like they were butting in all the time as opposed to coming up and wait 10 seconds for us to finish our sentence before asking a question. Also the volume of their voices could be a bit quieter and still easily heard.
We will probably return - but all in all Capital Grille is better in every regard.
Excellent food and service!!! Ali, our server, was very knowledgeable of the wines and made a great recommendation. My husband and I both had the filet and lobster tail with crab fried rice and edamame and succotash as sides. I had the ginger carrot soup which was very tasty with toasted coconut on top. Desserts and coffee completed a perfect meal.
Our 19 year old son ordered a sixteen ounce bone in filet at $65 and when he cut into the perfectly cooked steak he noticed a lot of gristle. He mentioned this to the server and the management was standing near by. At first they said it was because it was close to the bone and that was normal. Our son stated he wanted a new steak. It was quickly taken away and a new cut was placed in front of him. They fixed the issue and we all had a great dinner experience.
Doneness-- strike two. For the second time the cook staff messed up the order. The petite filet was ordered as medium and came to us as rare (blue). Not very attentive from the cook and the assistant chef serving the entree. We notified the server who then took it back for the re-fire. Bummer!
Enjoyed our night out on the town. We both chose items off the restaurant week menu. Her
Caesar salad greens were crisp and fresh and her only complaint was not enough dressing. I had the steak house salad with very very strong onions (if I order again I would leave the onions off) . Her salmon was moist and tasty while my steak was done to perfection. All in all a nice quiet booth in the back where we could enjoy each others company without disturbance.
What a disappointment, it was our first time dining at Ruth and probably be the last.
my wife got a caesar salad and I got the house salad, ( they were average, honestly Panera bread salad are so much better)
Then we got the Steak in a Tiny oval plate, with no garnishing at all ( No attention to presentation of the food!)
We got Mushrooms on the side, ( they were bathing in Butter, whole not sliced and no herbs)
They tasted like Mushroom from a can!!?
Mashed potatoes ( same poor taste from a box)
Overall the steak was ok , but the rest of the food was disappointing, the service was fast, but not great!
I usually do not write reviews about restaurants, but this time it is needed !
Steaks improperly cooked, meat of average to poor quality, banana desert terrible, potato and mac/cheese basically tasteless, steak served on small oval sandwich platter not commensurate with the image and quality they attempt to portray. Overall poor value for the money and expectation. Sweet Water Tavern is consistently of better quality and value. Our waiter was good so I gave him a decent gratuity. It was all him. I respect food service workers. I worked as one.
Monday nights are a great time to go, especially during restaurant week. Often on weekends it is very busy and noisy, but it was fairly quiet and there wasn't a lot of hustle and bustle. We were able to eat at a very leisurely pace and enjoy some conversation. The food and service were great as usual.
