Ruth's Chris Steak House - Durham Ratings and Reviews
I had read some of the negative reviews prior to going to our diner reservation. We did not have any of the problems mentioned in the reviews. Our server John was excellent. Our food was served timely, hot and cooked as specified. Special thanks to Manger, Matt. We had a great dinner
For Valentine's week, we went to Ruth's Chris Feb 14, but we went to Capital Grill Saturday, Feb 10. Ruth's 11 ounce fillet mignon steak was slighly better (more buttery), but the treatment was better at Capital grill. Capital presented my date a red rose. We received a between-course appetizer treat. And, while we did not order desert, Capital Grill brought us two mini-cheesecakes anyway, which were gratis.
With tip, I spent $300 at each restaurant. If in 2019 Valentine's Day should fall on a weekend (this year it fell on a Wednesday), then we will be eating at Capital Grill and skipping Ruth's Chris. It has become "just okay" for the money.
Finally, while Ruth's Chris did give me a $25 off coupon towards our next dinner there, it expires on March 30. I think expiration dates are for coupons from Burger King. I don't need any extra pressure in life to keep up with a 45-day expiration date. It's a very generous coupon, but it shouldn't expire so soon.
As always, meal was excellent. Server was personable but not very attentive. On Valentine's Day, one expects slower-than-average service; however, server did not appear to have too many tables. The wait to get drinks, dessert menu, check, etc. was much too long. My date and I were otherwise pleased with our dining experience, especially how quickly our entrees were prepared. The server experience will not keep us from returning!
My husband and I visited during Restaurant Week. I made a reservation plenty of time ahead and a table was ready and waiting for us when we walked in a few minutes early. We were seated and given water promptly. The waitress came to ask if we had questions - although we were prepared to order immediately (thanks to the availability of the shortened online menu) she did not take our order and hurriedly left our table. We finally ordered and although the restaurant was not busy our first course came out at about average speed. My husband ordered the seafood/sausage gumbo. It was boasted to include sausage, shrimp, and crab meat. Within the bowl he received, there were two quarter slices of sausage, one shrimp, and no crab. He said the broth was amazing but not at all what he was expecting. My Caesar salad was very delicious and the size was absolutely perfect. We ordered the pork tenderloin and salmon as our entrees and added the scalloped potatoes and fiery corn as our sides. The corn was amazing and I highly recommend. The potatoes were under-seasoned but fine. My salmon was overcooked and way too salty. I covered it with the under-seasoned potatoes and it was balanced. Dessert was delicious. Overall, the $100 price tag was a bit much considering the food was slightly above average, but the atmosphere and service was very average. So at the end of the day, I'm not really sure what you're paying for when you go on a regular night. Underwhelming to say the least.
Tried this out during Triangle Restaurant Week. Excellent fixed price menu and good value. Christos was an outstanding server and the food was very good. Not the best steak I've ever had and not worth the full price, but it was great for a restaurant week option. You can get a comparable meal at a better value but you can't beat the authentic steakhouse atmosphere.
That was my first time visiting the establishment. The wait time was as expected for restaurant week. Good seating area, nice and quiet. Lighting was good. Waiter was lovely, however our food came an hour after we ordered. We noticed other patrons who came in after us was served their food before ours (we were party of 3). Food was amazing though, and he offered a free side of mashed potatoes for the wait. Drinks were good, and so was dessert. The bathrooms could use some work. Toilets weren't working properly, and no toilet tissue on top of that. Overall, nice visit.
From the start of our dining experience at Ruth Chris’s with the friendly, helpful, professional efficient staff to the satisfying dessert, we enjoyed it all. The food was delicious and I appreciate the attention the staff paid to my food allergy. Thank you!
It was very crowded as usual for a Friday and restaurant week. My steak was undercooked, potato had large black spots throughout, and the steak was woefully under seasoned. I was pretty disappointed. The service was attentive but the fact that nothing was done to rectify missteps was surprising.
Although the dinners were very good the service was not. Our server seemed to forget about us, walking right past our table several times without acknowledgement. Although I enjoy a leisurely dinner, not over 2 hours on a weeknight when working the next day.
I was a bit disappointed in my meal, my wife was pretty happy with hers. I had the pumpkin soup, was not really hot and I did not enjoy the flavor. Perhaps just a personal preference. I had the 8oz filet and it was average at best. The texture and flavor did not seem to match my previous Ruth's Chris experience. Hard to describe, but not a very flavorful steak and that is why we came here. We had bread pudding for desert. Had to send it back. First time half of it was warm, the other half was just plain cold. The next version was about three-fourths hot, but one side was still cold. Did not bother sending back a third time. On the other hand my wife was very happy with salad, sea bass and brussel sprouts. Tried her fish, was very good. Service above average, friendly staff, manager stopped by. Overall a bit disappointing compared to other Ruth's Chris experiences.
The food was slightly above average. Definitely not worth the price tag. We usually dine at locally owned restaurants and decided to give this a try for a sense of nostalgia (we dined at one 18 years ago on our honeymoon). It wasn't nearly as good as we remembered. I definitely recommend local options for about half or two/thirds the cost.
The food was good except some members in our party ordered the mashed potatoes which did not retain their temperature long enough during the meal. I recommend the broccoli instead, which is what I ordered. My steak was slightly overcooked in that I ordered it medium and it was closer to medium well. The service was excellent.
It is true that our steaks were expertly cooked and delicious. Everything else about the experience was lackluster. Very overpriced. Lobster was over cooked. Our waiter wasn't warm or inviting. They were out of the bottle of wine we ordered. I would never go back.
I have family visiting from out of town and they wanted to have a nice meal before Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and Day after Christmas ( since we'll be cooking meals for those days). Two of us had red meat dishes and the others had seafood dishes. All our meals were cooked to perfection. Ambience was good. Our appointment was at 6:30 pm. It was a bit busy but not overly crowded nor noisy. Our server was excellent and had a lot of good recommendations. We will likely return for another occasion.
