Ruth's Chris Steak House - Del Mar Ratings and Reviews
The food and service was incredible! We always share our meals and the staff was so very gracious at splitting everything for us. The au gratin potatoes are always a favorite. And the bread pudding dessert was amazing. Of course the steak is always the best. Thanks for another great dining experience.
We've been regulars 21 years, mostly special occasions. We loved it and have raved about it, with great reviews. Service began slipping 2 years ago. It became slower and they forgot to provide the complimentary dessert and we had to ask them, which is embarrassing, since they ask in advance if it is a special occasion. Since food and service had been excellent, we came back. We wanted to give it a third chance. Our server, though friendly, was very slow, sinking to the point of ignoring us. We had to refill our champagne glasses several times. He initially charged us for the dessert, the size of which shrank to tiny. The bill stated "birthday dessert" with charge. Call this minor, but it was outrageous in our view, as we have been loyal patrons and have given them at least 5 thousand dollars over years. The portion size and quality also declined. The filets were same weight as listed; everything else was smaller. Chop salad was reduced to half size. For $ 17, there should be more than 3 bites. Vegetables were wilted/practically no dressing. Sides good but smaller. Salt level was ridiculous, but we did not want to wait another 30 minutes for a redo, so we put up with it. Prices are up about 20%. We would have been happy to pay for good food and service. We paid because we had to.
We were upset and spoke w/ the manager. I used a bad word, and apologized. Manager seemed nonplussed that we had a bad experience, after we described it. We mentioned one good thing: the bus woman was outstanding and should be promoted. She was far more attentive than our waiter. There were no attempt to comp any part of the meal. The manager could see how upset we were(wife crying). This is resting on laurels. I'm sure they still have a good reputation. Many rich executives on expense accts were there. Perhaps a big corporation took over (often results in decline). It is unlikely we will return as we do not want to risk having another bad experience spoil a special occasion.
Our table was in the corner of the dining room. No big deal but definitely not great. Server was ok. It would’ve been nice if she looked at our table more when in the area. My steak was under. It happens and that’s ok. Sides were less than exciting. All and all, I like it here but not for what it costs and the above combined.
Ruth’s Chris has always been my favorite restaurant. Until now. Maybe it was just because it was Christmas Day and super busy, but that really only explains the waiter’s inattentiveness. (He was absolutely horrible.) It does not explain why my filet had way too much fat on it, and also does not explain why it just was not as tender as it should have been. Black Angus has better filet than I had the other night. Very sad.
If it wasn’t for Lynn (he’s the best) we would have left. Disappointing that we frequent this establishment as often as we do and they overbooked as bed as they do. Totally understand it’s Christmas Eve, but when you tell us you’re running 15 minutes behind and 45 minutes later we are still standing there waiting. You’d think a manager would offer some sort of apology and throw down a glass of champagne or something while we wait, nope! Lucky we knew Lynn was looking out for us and got us a table, he’s the best!!
Waited almost1.5 hours for a table after our reservation time. Finally seated and had a great waiter(Porter is his name). Took our order and it continued downhill from there. Steaks were under cooked and waited and waited to have re done. All they did was put it back on the fire after telling me they would re make it. Tough,Tough when it arrived. Waiter beside himself. Asked manager to come over 3 times....no manager at which point he was willing to cover our dinner. Manager finally arrives tries to charge us for 1/2 the meal we did not eat. enough said this is the second time this has happened at this Ruth Chris, all other Ruth Chris restaurants have been excellent and a joy to eat at. We won't be back here.
Good for our anniversary. New York steak too much gristle, petite filet and shrimp were dry, even for med well, and slightly tough. Disappointing. Dessert excellent. Service and waiter great and attentive and friendly. We will chose another steakhouse for the expense next time. Sorry!
We were with friends who had never dined with Ruth. They were extremely happy with the quality of the food and service. Our waiter, Casey, did a great job of keeping everything where it should be when it should be. He is a charming and knowledgable representative of the Ruth's Chris experience.
Not the typical Ruth's Chris experience. Service was bad (had to ask for dishes to be cleared from table, didn't see server for 15-20 mins at a time), and inventory/drinks were out of stock (no sparkling water - even bottled!, no Grgich Hills cab that was on the menu, no 7Up - for my moms favorite cocktail "7&7"). Watched another server, Adam, completely cater to his tables with that wonderful "wine & dine" flare that is synonymous with Ruths Chris.
Food was excellent, as always, and will continue to enjoy Ruths Chris - just not the Del Mar location. Had redeemed 2,000 open table points for $10 credit at this establishment and was told it could not be honored. The bill was eventually adjusted down $10.
This was our first visit to Ruth's Chris. We had a party of 9 and everything from table setup to service to the dinners was excellent! Our waiter Greg was very attentive & friendly. Everyone was very pleased with their steak choices. The price was worth the environment and quality of food!
A major dasappointment, and expensive, too. Waited 20-minutes for our reserved table. It's ready. No, not yet. OK,now?. Wait, maybe. Front desk staff poorly trained. Waiter brought water. Then disappeared. Finally took our drink orders and eventually got around to food. Steaks are always superb but the side dishes are ridiculously priced...and the table too small for four people with anything beyond a main course. We were prepared for a high cost meal...not our first time...but likely, our last. Bob's Chop House is superior by a wide margin. Then, to top off the evening and add insult to injury, valet parking charges $8.00 . With a $400+ meal, you might think they would validate? This was not a corporate outing. It was my wife's 70th birthday and we could afford the meal, thank god. But for that price, one would expect superior food and service across the board. It missed!!!
Ok the meat is amazing but the place is way too busy, weird location (in a middle of clinics and health providers). Dinnerware is industrial and not very good at embellishing the experience.
So if you're a carnivore that doesn't mind a pseudo-fancy ambiance then go for it but you need deep pockets because it's not cheap.
Won't repeat unless I know I am not paying.
